I am so glad i made a donation three months ago, thank you for the huge work you are doing for helping us improve our mandarin ! Your lesson are very clear and interesting ! I can't find a better teacher :) Big thumbs up from France !
Yes I did. But this video is more easy to understand because you speak slower, using simple words. I suggest that you should make videos with more diverse scenes such as: group conversation instead of only you speaking, videos in the hotel, market, hospital...
We might if we can find a group of people to talk in front of camera. In terms of hospital, it's a little bit hard to do, because sometimes it brings too much attention, and the security guy wouldn't allow us to film especially with a foreign face holding a camera. Anyway, we will make different videos in the future. By the way, there are two videos in which I invited my friend to talk. One is ruclips.net/video/x3MvjxTLSEU/видео.html ruclips.net/video/YzE3Zj4pyQY/видео.html
thank you. those 2 videos are also good. But It would be better if the sound quality is improved. Because we have just learned Mandarin for not so long, the listening skill is still not very good.
This video is absolutely great! This is what a lot of students have been dreaming for: having a personal guide in Chinese who shares a walk with you, points at things and pronounces their names in a slow tempo👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 p.s. please add English subtitles for a better understanding 🇬🇧
I couldn't´t appreciate more for what you have done. Your teaching methods match the needs of those who are really interested in learning Chinese in a practical manner. I hope you continue doing this outstanding job, best regards from Mozambique.
Thank you so much for your videos and your clear explanations. Love it when you repeat things. Some redundance really makes things stick in our brains. Jia you!
*TOO FAST?* Control the video's playback speed by speeding up or slowing down the video *5% at a time* on *desktop computers and laptops* OR *25% at a time* on *smartphones!* Access the playback speed controls as follows: *Desktop Computers and Laptops:* open the video, then go to the *lower right* of the video's screen and click on the *settings icon* (it looks like a GEAR). On the upper right of the options window that comes up, you will see the link *"custom".* Click on the "custom" link to control the video's playback speed by speeding up or slowing down the video 5% at a time. *Smartphones:* open the video and go to the *upper right* of the video's screen. Note that viewing the video on desktop computer/laptops gives you *greater control* over the playback speed (5% vs 25% on smartphones).
wow thankk uuuu! best way to learn chinese, the more you repeat the more i remember, your slow and clear pronunciation makes it easier for me to understand and memorize lots of words.
Eileen, I really like this video. This was a super helpful way to learn as you walk around and show us things, without any english. Thank you for your great videos!
I really like this video and I appreciate soooooooo much that you also have videos without English captions, so our listening skills get better without reading, haha. I would love to see more outdoor videos, explaining daily things in the street, common places, etc. I think is really useful and everyone can relate their life to that. Thank you again!
Thank you so much for these videos Eileen! You help so many people improve their Chinese. Finally some interesting and authentic content, I love your Channel! :)
That was a great experience walking around with you. Please take care of yourself. Typhoons are very dangerous. I was not able to understand all that you said. But I was able to get the main points.

Hello Eileen! Very good video of walking around outside. We can experience some of the culture when you are outside. I like this video a lot because you repeated some of the words and sentences. Also, I could understand most of the words, since you did not talk too fast. I hope the typhoon did not cause you too much damage. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, Mark. That's exactly our thinking. The most difficult part of learning Chinese is somehow being able to transition from a beginner to an intermediate level student. Listening to a lot of videos where the presenter spends MOST of the time speaking English or watching videos with a lot of English translations only gives you the illusion that you are studying and learning a lot of Chinese.... but actually you are just listening / reading a lot of English that will not help you consolidate the Chinese you already have studied. Students need to somehow IMMERSE themselves in a Chinese environment to slowly make that difficult transition from beginner to intermediate. This is one big reason our videos are usually so long -- to encourage students to immerse themselves in Chinese for 20, 30 minutes, 60 minutes. Yes, it is very, very tough. But if they don't try, they will stay at the beginner level forever.
Hi Eileen, I wish to congratulate you on producing this interesting video. You mentioned that you were chased and subsequently bitten by a big dog when you were nine years old. Although you suffered no injury but It was a terrifying experience which led to your continuing fear of dogs. How did you finally manage to free yourself from that dog? Did anyone came to your rescue?
Hi ! i enjoyed this video since i(m interested jn Chinese daily life. May i suggest you to open in youtube the possibility to adding .srt files (see in RUclips FAQ). I'll contact you through your site. Thanks again
zìxíngchē is the standard word for bicycles. Danche could be any vehicles with two wheels. 自行车/zìxíngchē should be the one to remember, hope this will help you!
Yes! If you have finished the video, I talked about the man's family got some compensation from a state-run insurance company because of the video which went viral on Chinese social media.
Hi Rbcaul, you can listen to the audio of *all* our content while simultaneously reading a Hanzi only transcript here: mandarincorner.org/listen-to-audio-with-transcript/ Some of the audio is free (once you register) but to listen to the rest, you would need to become a Mandarin Corner Supporter (minimum one-time $10 donation)
Great! Most helpful! You are doing a terrific job! And, please, please - no English; do not add any English texts or sounds. This is a Chinese Mandarin lecture and let it stay this way. Thank you thousand times.
Thank you for watching, Predrag - Peter Ilich! You might also find it useful to go to our website, mandarincorner.org and download the free video transcript PDF and mp3 for this video or any of our other videos!
I think the English under the chinese is very helpful. When I want to practice characters and want an immersion like effect, I just don’t read the English and only look at the characters if I need to but if I don’t understand something I can rewind and check the English easily. I simply don’t have time to stop and look up everything I don’t understand fully. I’m not a full time student and I have a family to take care of.
Oh my! I didn’t realize it was pinyin and not English! Haha! My chinese is better than my memory let’s me believe. I guess I was looking at the pinyin when I didn’t understand haha
We don't want to do the same format for all the videos and the format used on this video also has some advantages for some people. But, we will return to the literal translation format soon.
I think that it is good to listen over and over again. I will be able to learn and improve my ability to understand your words and accent. So I like both formats. In this. video you are speaking to people who are not naive speakers. So you are more careful not to speak too fast and you use more common or easy-to-use words. Great job, I love your videos.
It's definitely good to mix it up, fantastic teaching choice. I've often thought that the biggest problem with language learning courses is that they're too structured, too repetitive, and people will start to get comfortable with the format and thus their expectations narrow tremendously. Variety is essential.
