What an entertaining review. My partner told me I had to watch and I was like 24 mins no way. But I was a good girl and sat down to watch thought ok I will humour him for a couple of minutes. So glad I did it was the most enjoyable 24 minutes I've watched on a review in a long time you had me laughing along with you. We are hopefully picking up our brand new Rocket 3R in the weekend. Its taken a bit longer to get them into the country here in New Zealand. Very excited now!!!! Thanks for sharing with us.

The Rocket 3 R is the best MOTORcycle ever made, period! Nothing comes even close, it spoiled every other motorcycle for me, so far, I've sold my 2021 R1 for one. Once you've ridden it, it's a done deal!
first time i tried it i buy it. one year ago, and still love this bike, she s like no other, style,confort, power, noise, even for riding slow you can enjoy this bike
As an old git I'd pay that little bit extra and go for the GT with it's more forward placed front pedals giving a more relaxed position along with different angled bars. The GT also comes with heated grips, sissy bar and other goodies. But both models are absolutely superb.
Great review. I recently bought a 2022 R3 GT 221 Edition with a base price of $25k USD. I wanted a Red GT so I bought the 221. No problems after 1,200-miles. It’s an awesome bike and worth every penny. 😎🚀

Great job. I just looked at two other vids prior to yours on the Rocket 3 and yours was best. (The one thing all three of you shared in common was how you all giggled uncontrolably when you rolled on the throttle -- very telling) I've been looking to get back into biking having sold my K9 chopper five years ago. (Another radically different bike with a 117 in motor) Riding since I was 15, (motocross) getting into road bikes in my twenties, from Harleys to sport bikes, this vid really got my attention. I will surly head to my local Triumph dealer, (never owning a Triumph) I'm really interested now. Thanks again man -- and love the area you live in -- beautiful!

So Farmer, just popped into my local Triumph dealer and they had a black R in the showroom. Not available to demo yet until the New Year... but had a good poke about and sit on. Seat and handlebar arrangement very nice, seat very cushy and the weight very low down. It seemed about the same size as my old Honda Valkyrie and very compact. A quality item. I’m going to pop back on Tuesday for a better look see and book in a test ride. So far very impressed. It must look amazing in red... my preferred colour. I wonder if I can upspec the GT wheels... I really like the machined highlights. How exciting... I feel like a kid again... 👍😍
Happy to admit I was wrong questioning the point of it pre release. After seeing and sitting on one at dealers was blown away by how low, in proportion and light it was. How they achieved it I have no idea, but it was easier to move around than my Thunderbird and actually feels lighter. Apart from that engine it’s a world away from the previous Rocket3. Build quality is superb, exhaust sounds great, a huge amount of money but so are many bikes nowadays in this sort of class. Great work Triumph.

Hi John - I would say nip over for a break, but the other side of the world is a fair ride 😂 The Rocket was good - still a fair lump, but very good. Triumph will sell loads of them - rightly so - Quite a few roads in the UK are incredible - Scotland, Wales and yes here in the South West offer so much . Just watched this again. 315 kg wet is alright. The weight is carried so low. I rode the Rocket lll Roadster in 2010. 40 kg heavier and I had no problem managing it. Good review.
I suspect this bike would be way more fun to ride on the warm dry roads of Tenerife where it was launched than the cold wet roads of Devon. I don't believe anyone can come to any firm conclusions on ride and handling in conditions such as you were riding. I love the fact that Triumph have built this bike but having ridden for nearly 40 years I've found that light bikes are just more fun to ride, handle better, corner better and stop better. Plenty of these bikes are going to get dropped on slow manoeuvring, in car parks and on drives when gravity, balance and huge mass overcome their wealthy middleaged owner. Well done on keeping the thing upright in those conditions, I almost couldn't watch as you went through that ford..... seen folks come to grief on the green slime in those things. As for that Scrambler you have, I've ridden one and they are terrific. 👍
Loved your comment of a giant hand pushing you forward. 16 mins in . Last time i experienced that was in the 80s on a test ride on a Kawasaki GPZ750 turbo. Best on road feeling ever. If this feels the same , I'm getting one !!
@@FarmerTorque Thanks for quick reply, Got a BMW K1300s 2014 just now with 175bhp but only 140nm torque which i feel is a bit low for a big bike , still fast , but without that surge of power i,m craving. Would i be ok with a Rocket 3 ? Great reviews BTW.
K1300 is a very nice bike - have done miles on one. The Rocket is heavier but is easy to handle and most importantly, it’s in a select group of being a special bike . I like the rocket enormously, but it’s not really my kind of bike - hence my SuperDuke purchase recently. If you love the look and feel of the Triumph and like the ride, I wholeheartedly approve 😊

Perfect conditions for testing a 2.5 litre bike!! - I’d have waited ‘till it was fully raining though, at least things are consistent then. It wouldn’t be an FT test without cow poo and puddles though and it makes Exmoor look nicely foreboding - don’t forget we ride in spite of the weather not because of it!! Yet another great video mate. Picking up my TFC later this month and can't wait, counting down the days till my local Triumph dealers reopens after the festive season and I get the shout to attend 'the big presentation'. Here's to big heavy comfortable bikes. :) I myself have a '88 Suzuki Katana 1100 here in Ontario Canada that puts quite a smile on my face when I get onto it as well. My bike only has 114,000 km., so I'm sure it should be good for several years yet. ;)
Oh I've got a brand new combine harvester (Triumph Scrambler) and I'll give you the key, If we could just do a bit of a barter, there'd be perfect harmony. I love this awesome bike you've lent me, and don't want to give it back, heck I'll even trade in my Ransome's plough, 160 bhp, boy I could do some ploughing with that!! Thanks for the review, that combine's gonna look real strange in the dealers forecourt!!... For sale one careful owner, only seen one harvest, many thousands of acres left in the splines, reluctant sale, owner traded it in for something a little less cumbersome on the country lanes!!

@@FarmerTorque I'll look out for the latest vid, and also go back to your Scrambler vid which caught my eye a while back, but I never watched it. Sadly the Triumph Tiger is off the road temporarily, I sat and passed my test 19 years ago, and sent the pass certificate off for adding to my licence, at the same time I was battling UK immigration over my Filipino wife. They failed to update my licence claiming I included the wrong fee, they now say I never claimed my motorcycle licence and must re sit the test. I had more important things to fight over at the time. However having passed my test, I did go on to own a Triumph 900 Thunderbird Sport which was simply the most fun you could have on two wheels!! Now there's one bike I wish they would retro, which in itself was a modern take on a retro when made in 1996-8. Look it up on RUclips, the one with the 3 into 2 exhaust, the roar of it turned heads at 30mph, and my mate second he could hear it coming from 4 miles away. Thankfully the Tiger Sport is fitted with an SP Engineering exhaust, a bit more roar than the standard pipes, bloody EU regulations, now exhausts have to look like smoke stacks and barely murmur. Hope you have many happy safe miles on the Scrambler and if your ever up in Scotland I can recommend some serious twisties with awesome views. Hopefully I will be road legal again in a month or so, can't wait to make that Tiger PURrrr!!
@@FarmerTorque I'm not a Filipino, so I'm just here trying to understand it myself. You are definitely allowed bigger bikes. You very occasionally see a foreigner with a Harley. My emerging theory is that a faster bike needs better tyres, better brakes, better everything. Scooters here start at about $US 1100 new, and I believe a new tyre for one is like $4. (How good can it be for that price?) I think the motorcycle economy just resolves around cheap crap. But you see even sports bikes and bigger bikes at 150cc. The police ride 150cc dirt bikes. Amusingly there is a law on the books you can't ride some motorways with a bike less than 400cc, maybe a way to exclude the unwashed masses.
@@xpusostomos I am an American expat living in Cebu , there is indeed a large movement of wealthy Filipinos and some expats riding larger cc bikes here. I personally have had a Yamaha MT07 and a Triumph Street Twin. in answer to Farmers question yes they are much more expensive here. you will pay about 40% more than in the US or UK. It is the price of pleasure. In Luzon (Manila) there are decent roads and limited access highways, in Cebu there are nothing but 2 lane roads for he most part. However lots of good mountain twisties to explore. I modified my Street Twin to lower the gearing and added dual sport tires, a perfect solution to the road conditions. The real problem is indeed the scooter riders who do here best to kill themselves at every opportunity, and take you with them. road discipline is no existent. After 15 years here I'm used to it, and have adopted the riding style.

A while back for curiousity I looked at the online price in Manila for a new CRF250 Honda, which is roughly a $US 4000 bike, and the price seemed to be 10% less than Australia (And Australia has a 10% sales tax), so I was kinda thinking maybe the Philippines has no motorcycle taxes. I tried googling that, and there are definitely car sales taxes, but couldn't find mention of motorcycle taxes.
@@xpusostomos the small Hondas are imported in parts and assembled here to avoid import taxes. or are brought in from China where they are made, in the case of some scooters, or no Filipino could afford them. all the so called "big bikes" are assessed about a 40% tax and import duty. some bikes like the 200 and 300 cc BAJAJ (India) Kawasakis are built here as are some of the smaller KTMs.
Great video under awful conditions. I would have been scared pissless with that combo of unfamiliar bike/mountains of torque/wet roads/poor visibility. There is a magic in the power delivery of inline 3 and 6 cylinder engines, they go “whoosh” like a turbine. It’s good that the exhaust sounds decent as built, don’t see the aftermarket jumping in quickly with options. Would love to climb all over a Rocket 3 and a Diavel sitting side-by-side, then alternate riding both for an hour or two. The Duc is the only bike I can imagine cross-shopping with this beast.
I’ve always found found three cylinder engines interesting and this one didn’t disappoint. Felt a bit awkward praising the bike so much but I think it is that good. Great to hear your thoughts - Farmer

Ha.....You have hit the nail on the head there, Martyn, although not quite right as a TFC is £25k ... :( Much as I like the thought I can't afford that level and keep the Scrambler, Which I still have a lot of affection for. There are some very tempting deals from other manufacturers at the moment. So, Scrambler plus.....?????
FarmerTorque Agree the Scrambler does everything so my choice would be some form of cruiser or semi cruiser like the Triumph Speedmaster. I like a bike that you can ‘make yours’. Enjoyed your channel this year so keep up the good work for 2020👍 Happy new year to you.
As a 2014 VMAX owner, I've been watching and reading reviews on this new Triumph with keen interest. I had a '93 VMAX that was nice but the seat was a medieval torture device. My 2014 MAX is a beast of a motorcycle with incredible roll-on acceleration and a very comfortable seat. I will never replace my Gen II Max but I gotta tell ya, it's looking like Mr. MAX is going to have a British stablemate sometime in the near future. Very nice looking power cruiser. Now I just have to make up my mind whether to go with a GT or the R. Nice review sir. Thanks.
I appreciate the great review! As a '14 Rocket III Touring owner, I understand how you feel... :) For those who haven't at least taken a test ride you should. It's obviously not for everyone, but deserving of a look.
Thanks for that - just what I needed ahead of getting my call from my dealer to pick up a TFC. Appreciate the decent length of the ride, in realistic British conditions, as opposed to the glorious but not everyday (! ) recent footage of journos whizzing around the idyllic tarmac of Tenerife. Your real-life commentary is also helpful and reassuring. I’ve also seen a clip of someone saying they won’t go through with their purchase now they’ve seen their reserved bike for real, though seemingly for reasons of aesthetics. Those looked clear enough to me from what Triumph have already released - though I also had a good look at the prototype at the Bike Shed in London last summer, and sat on a production R at the bike show in Birmingham last month. My buy is still on.... Happy New Year!

Exactly the same here, I had a detailed run through with the very helpful guy in the ‘rocket lounge’ at the nec. He somewhat worriedly asked if I’d be ok waiting until January for my TFC (on order since January) and looked pretty relieved when I told him that was fine. On an XDiavel at the moment so it’s not exactly a desperate situation while I wait.
Nice video, shame about the conditions, but you maneuvered them well. I own three Rocket 3's. Two 2005's and one 2013. One of my 05's is in a stretched/raked, hardtail frame with a car tire on the rear. My favorite is my old 05 with 65,000 miles, and going strong. Has a Jardine header system, and really growls.
Looks very nice.........and surprisingly settled on those wet lanes. You had me on edge there! :-) Wonder if you'll haggle out a deal on one and part ex the Scrambler. Imagine how good it will be on open, dry roads with a sexier pipe! I guess anyone considering one should ride the Diavel and the new 1800 BMW, but on the face of it, this looks to be the 'nicest' looking of the 3 and has the most charisma.
I really tried to be critical and maybe not be so keen.....Epic fail....It's the TFC that's my problem - or should I say the size of my piggy bank! Some thinking to do! Cheers - Farmer

And there I was as a previous Hayabusa owner and now a fair bit older, I was considering a gen 3 busa but this seems to be more suitable but still extremely quick. Thank you for such a real review. I just hate the fact that this has made me question the Hayabusa

@@FarmerTorque yeah, a very very big fan but the one I had (2012-15 - look at my videos) was hit by a stupid wife playing with her GPS and not stopping at a STOP sign ... me only very blue legs and arms but engine broken by crashbar that split part of the carter .... me 67 then and my lovely wife did not want me to buy an new one or to repare .... pitty yeah but love is stronger than rockets ... she told me she was always very scary when I got out and now she couldn't stand it any longer .... I understood and now I enjoy Rocket videos ..... yeah man ..... ;-) ;-)

FarmerTorque . Thanks, yes, cleaning is fun to, but I’m not a fan of the black part getting grey and then have to use spray to get the black finish back, if you know what I mean. I’m having a HD Street Glide CVO 2018 model but like Triumph, and this bike is 100 kilo lighter :)
How does it stack against the the Yamaha VMax 1700 v4 at the 1/4 and half mile... I cannot see it beating it at either and it will be slower around corners...
Hi Alexander - the only way to be sure is to get the bikes together - As I have mentioned in previous vids I now have Racelogic gps tech to record performance figures but wasn’t possible with this new bike. However whilst the Yamaha has more top end power the Rocket has a huge advantage in torque - I’ve weighed the triumph at 315kilos full of fuel so very similar My guess would be the triumph would take the 1/4 - the Yamaha power may win at a have mile - maybe In the corners unless clearance is an issue on either I think the rocket would do very well indeed. Of course, unable to prove anything !!!!
I like the left side just as much. More minimalist. I wouldn't have a quickshifter, either. I have recently learned that I like a powerful front brake. I've bought a secondhand SCR950. The front brake worried me at first, then I dabbed on the back one. I can afford a Rocket 3 R, but I am in Thailand. We are right up north, so the roads are not as congested, but the driving is still questionable. Do I need a bigger bike than my 950? 315 kg wet/fuelled isn't too bad. The weight is low down. See, I'm rationalising things.
Great review. I have an 06 Rocket here in New Zealand have been into the dealer and seen the red and the black R3R ones and waiting to see the GT in the coming weeks. I am in two minds as to take it for a test ride encase l love it and then I get disappointed with what I have. My mate has been for a ride on it already and is now trying to sell his 2016 Rocket So he can buy one but at 35k it's alot of money.
One of the few bikes that straddle cruiser market and streetbike/racer market, I think you could take that bike to either group and they would be impressed.
I love your down-to-earth review. I was looking at getting a Triumph 1200 Speed Twin but I'm VERY tempted to stretch to one of these. Very different bikes - but this one looks like something out of a Batman movie - very cool. Thanks for the review.
FarmerTorque, quick question. When you rode in the rain/wet roads, did the water from the back of the tire spray the back of both your helmet and jacket ?
It did a bit, but not too bad, however overall protection wasn’t great - not a bike to enjoy a long ride in the rain ! On the right bike I enjoy wet riding 👍

@@FarmerTorque What does that mean? Why haven't any reviews talked about the gear box? That's one of the very first parts of a motorcycle review (no offense). The engine & transmission are both of equal importance, most of the driving experience is shifting.
@@Ritalie If you take a look at my video at around 13.20 mins I DO talk about the gearbox - describing it as very good - as mentioned the bike does not feel under-geared in any way - it is very relaxed. Hope this helps you - Farmer
Great review - except for the quickshifter comment - they're always fun (providing they include an auto-blipper). Triumph make so many models I'd like as a second bike. I'll add this to the list!
Nice you enjoyed the vid - My quick-shifter thing is just a personal dislike - I just love changing gear myself - as long as I can switch it off I'm fine - which Triumph do - so all good !!!!!

Ummm....interesting question, Certainly it would do it, low speed stuff is easy peesey - I wouldn't buy one to use in the city - but if it were your only bike it would get buy admirably - Farmer
@@FarmerTorque my Tiger 800 has a 5 gallon tank, but a much smaller engine, and already I feel like I have to fill up too often. It would be nice if they would offer a larger tank as an upgrade/accessory - I doubt it would look so bad that I would be deterred from preferring it.
So I am trying to see all the hype!! Dont worry i am triumph thru and thru! I really luv this bike! but?? I have a 2016 triumph roadster R3. Why is everyone bagging on about the torque?? The old one (mine) specs are here for the 2016 R3 its torque was huge also.. Every person that does a vid on this bike talks torque but the old bike has the same just delivered at differnt times?? 2016R3 roadster Displacement: 2294.00 ccm (139.98 cubic inches) Engine type: In-line three, four-stroke Engine details: Counter rotating crankshaft Power: 148.00 HP (108.0 kW)) @ 5750 RPM Torque: 221.00 Nm (22.5 kgf-m or 163.0 ft.lbs) @ 2750 RPM BTW I have now increased the HP to 159 ( dino tested) and taken 16kg of the bike simply by changing the pipes!! ALso same size tyres as the last R3..

I've been pining for a Rocket 3 for a long long time... and the dealership nearest to me doesn't allow test-rides on the Rocket 3 (wth?) The purported specs of the bike excite my imagination, but I don't want to have a $20k regret... I may try to find a used one. I've been riding a 2001 800cc Triumph Bonneville somethingorother for about 6 years now, I paid $500 for it... it is the best bike I've ever owned... so comfortable... but I want more motor... I have a back injury that prevents me from riding "crotch rockets", I need to be sitting upright in a comfortable stance. Thank you for sharing your story, I have a feeling I'm going to end up getting a rocket 3 someday, and whether I like it or not... I'll make myself get used to it =) cheers.

Seems to me this bike is the ultimate expression of what I felt when I rode a Yamaha V-Max for the first time. I think I'll definitely have one someday..... Only real decision will be whether to keep my Tiger 800 as well.
Having just sold my Harley 08 FatBob & wandering what next , never would have thought to look at a Rocket 3 , this Test & Describe by Farmer has just made me want to go look & test the Rocket . The Review really help[ed me feel the bike , problem , now i was looking to get away from heavy cruisers & seeing this i am having second thoughts . I get the giggling when you twist the right wrist. I hear that a LOT with the earlier model when someone gets on it for the first time. I have an 07 R111 and its " A little modified" ;) . I'm just curious if you rode the earlier model R111 prior to this. If so, is the torque THAT much more noticeable? Personally. I REALLY don't like the rear end (I disliked the Diavel for the same reason) so I am unlikely to be looking to buy one, but Im interested to know the foregoing. Ps. thanks for taking the time to make the Vid' and I LOVE the 360% shots!!!!
Hello Ian, Sadly no, I’ve not ridden the earilier model - so can’t comment. But I have chatted with those who have ridden both. Here’s my thoughts - The new bike is painfully good, be of no doubt. But if your bike probably has more charisma and that’s the thing to consider. You will know if it’s time for a change. If it is, buy the new bike without a concern. There you go.... What an entertaining review. My partner told me I had to watch and I was like 24 mins no way. But I was a good girl and sat down to watch thought ok I will humour him for a couple of minutes. So glad I did it was the most enjoyable 24 minutes I've watched on a review in a long time you had me laughing along with you. We are hopefully picking up our brand new Rocket 3R in the weekend. The Rocket 3 R is the best MOTORcycle ever made, period! Nothing comes even close, it spoiled every other motorcycle for me, so far, I've sold my 2021 R1 for one. Once you've ridden it, it's a done deal!

first time i tried it i buy it. one year ago, and still love this bike, she s like no other, style,confort, power, noise, even for riding slow you can enjoy this bike
As an old git I'd pay that little bit extra and go for the GT with it's more forward placed front pedals giving a more relaxed position along with different angled bars. The GT also comes with heated grips, sissy bar and other goodies. But both models are absolutely superb.
Went for a test ride for 100 miles yesterday, totally agree with this review.....and i have ordered one! Yeay:)

Great job. I just looked at two other vids prior to yours on the Rocket 3 and yours was best. (The one thing all three of you shared in common was how you all giggled uncontrolably when you rolled on the throttle -- very telling) I've been looking to get back into biking having sold my K9 chopper five years ago. (Another radically different bike with a 117 in motor) Riding since I was 15, (motocross) getting into road bikes in my twenties, from Harleys to sport bikes, this vid really got my attention. I will surly head to my local Triumph dealer, (never owning a Triumph) I'm really interested now. Thanks again man -- and love the area you live in -- beautiful!

So Farmer, just popped into my local Triumph dealer and they had a black R in the showroom. Not available to demo yet until the New Year... but had a good poke about and sit on. Seat and handlebar arrangement very nice, seat very cushy and the weight very low down. It seemed about the same size as my old Honda Valkyrie and very compact. A quality item. I’m going to pop back on Tuesday for a better look see and book in a test ride. So far very impressed. It must look amazing in red... my preferred colour. I wonder if I can upspec the GT wheels... I really like the machined highlights. How exciting... I feel like a kid again... 👍😍

Happy to admit I was wrong questioning the point of it pre release. After seeing and sitting on one at dealers was blown away by how low, in proportion and light it was. How they achieved it I have no idea, but it was easier to move around than my Thunderbird and actually feels lighter. Apart from that engine it’s a world away from the previous Rocket3. Build quality is superb, exhaust sounds great, a huge amount of money but so are many bikes nowadays in this sort of class. Great work Triumph.

The Rocket was good - still a fair lump, but very good. Triumph will sell loads of them - rightly so -
Quite a few roads in the UK are incredible - Scotland, Wales and yes here in the South West offer so much .

Just watched this again. 315 kg wet is alright. The weight is carried so low. I rode the Rocket lll Roadster in 2010. 40 kg heavier and I had no problem managing it.

I suspect this bike would be way more fun to ride on the warm dry roads of Tenerife where it was launched than the cold wet roads of Devon. I don't believe anyone can come to any firm conclusions on ride and handling in conditions such as you were riding.
I love the fact that Triumph have built this bike but having ridden for nearly 40 years I've found that light bikes are just more fun to ride, handle better, corner better and stop better. Plenty of these bikes are going to get dropped on slow manoeuvring, in car parks and on drives when gravity, balance and huge mass overcome their wealthy middleaged owner.
Well done on keeping the thing upright in those conditions, I almost couldn't watch as you went through that ford..... seen folks come to grief on the green slime in those things. As for that Scrambler you have, I've ridden one and they are terrific. 👍

K1300 is a very nice bike - have done miles on one.
The Rocket is heavier but is easy to handle and most importantly, it’s in a select group of being a special bike .
I like the rocket enormously, but it’s not really my kind of bike - hence my SuperDuke purchase recently.
If you love the look and feel of the Triumph and like the ride, I wholeheartedly approve 😊

Perfect conditions for testing a 2.5 litre bike!! - I’d have waited ‘till it was fully raining though, at least things are consistent then. It wouldn’t be an FT test without cow poo and puddles though and it makes Exmoor look nicely foreboding - don’t forget we ride in spite of the weather not because of it!! Here's to big heavy comfortable bikes. :) I myself have a '88 Suzuki Katana 1100 here in Ontario Canada that puts quite a smile on my face when I get onto it as well. My bike only has 114,000 km., so I'm sure it should be good for several years yet. ;)
Oh I've got a brand new combine harvester (Triumph Scrambler) and I'll give you the key, If we could just do a bit of a barter, there'd be perfect harmony. I love this awesome bike you've lent me, and don't want to give it back, heck I'll even trade in my Ransome's plough, 160 bhp, boy I could do some ploughing with that!! Thanks for the review, that combine's gonna look real strange in the dealers forecourt!!... For sale one careful owner, only seen one harvest, many thousands of acres left in the splines, reluctant sale, owner traded it in for something a little less cumbersome on the country lanes!!

@@FarmerTorque I'll look out for the latest vid, and also go back to your Scrambler vid which caught my eye a while back, but I never watched it. Sadly the Triumph Tiger is off the road temporarily, I sat and passed my test 19 years ago, and sent the pass certificate off for adding to my licence, at the same time I was battling UK immigration over my Filipino wife. They failed to update my licence claiming I included the wrong fee, they now say I never claimed my motorcycle licence and must re sit the test. I had more important things to fight over at the time. However having passed my test, I did go on to own a Triumph 900 Thunderbird Sport which was simply the most fun you could have on two wheels!! Now there's one bike I wish they would retro, which in itself was a modern take on a retro when made in 1996-8. Look it up on RUclips, the one with the 3 into 2 exhaust, the roar of it turned heads at 30mph, and my mate second he could hear it coming from 4 miles away. Thankfully the Tiger Sport is fitted with an SP Engineering exhaust, a bit more roar than the standard pipes, bloody EU regulations, now exhausts have to look like smoke stacks and barely murmur. Hope you have many happy safe miles on the Scrambler and if your ever up in Scotland I can recommend some serious twisties with awesome views. Hopefully I will be road legal again in a month or so, can't wait to make that Tiger PURrrr!!
Watching this from the Philippines where basically everything is 125cc. So you're riding the equivilent of 20 Philippine bikes.

@@FarmerTorque I'm not a Filipino, so I'm just here trying to understand it myself. You are definitely allowed bigger bikes. You very occasionally see a foreigner with a Harley. My emerging theory is that a faster bike needs better tyres, better brakes, better everything. Scooters here start at about $US 1100 new, and I believe a new tyre for one is like $4. (How good can it be for that price?) I think the motorcycle economy just resolves around cheap crap. But you see even sports bikes and bigger bikes at 150cc. The police ride 150cc dirt bikes. Amusingly there is a law on the books you can't ride some motorways with a bike less than 400cc, maybe a way to exclude the unwashed masses.
@@xpusostomos I am an American expat living in Cebu , there is indeed a large movement of wealthy Filipinos and some expats riding larger cc bikes here. I personally have had a Yamaha MT07 and a Triumph Street Twin. in answer to Farmers question yes they are much more expensive here. you will pay about 40% more than in the US or UK. It is the price of pleasure. In Luzon (Manila) there are decent roads and limited access highways, in Cebu there are nothing but 2 lane roads for he most part. However lots of good mountain twisties to explore. I modified my Street Twin to lower the gearing and added dual sport tires, a perfect solution to the road conditions. The real problem is indeed the scooter riders who do here best to kill themselves at every opportunity, and take you with them. road discipline is no existent. After 15 years here I'm used to it, and have adopted the riding style.

A while back for curiousity I looked at the online price in Manila for a new CRF250 Honda, which is roughly a $US 4000 bike, and the price seemed to be 10% less than Australia (And Australia has a 10% sales tax), so I was kinda thinking maybe the Philippines has no motorcycle taxes. I tried googling that, and there are definitely car sales taxes, but couldn't find mention of motorcycle taxes.
@@xpusostomos the small Hondas are imported in parts and assembled here to avoid import taxes. or are brought in from China where they are made, in the case of some scooters, or no Filipino could afford them. all the so called "big bikes" are assessed about a 40% tax and import duty. some bikes like the 200 and 300 cc BAJAJ (India) Kawasakis are built here as are some of the smaller KTMs.
Great video under awful conditions. I would have been scared pissless with that combo of unfamiliar bike/mountains of torque/wet roads/poor visibility.
There is a magic in the power delivery of inline 3 and 6 cylinder engines, they go “whoosh” like a turbine. It’s good that the exhaust sounds decent as built, don’t see the aftermarket jumping in quickly with options.
Would love to climb all over a Rocket 3 and a Diavel sitting side-by-side, then alternate riding both for an hour or two. The Duc is the only bike I can imagine cross-shopping with this beast.
I’ve always found found three cylinder engines interesting and this one didn’t disappoint.
Felt a bit awkward praising the bike so much but I think it is that good.

As a 2014 VMAX owner, I've been watching and reading reviews on this new Triumph with keen interest. I had a '93 VMAX that was nice but the seat was a medieval torture device. My 2014 MAX is a beast of a motorcycle with incredible roll-on acceleration and a very comfortable seat.
I will never replace my Gen II Max but I gotta tell ya, it's looking like Mr. MAX is going to have a British stablemate sometime in the near future. Very nice looking power cruiser. Now I just have to make up my mind whether to go with a GT or the R.

Thanks for that - just what I needed ahead of getting my call from my dealer to pick up a TFC. Appreciate the decent length of the ride, in realistic British conditions, as opposed to the glorious but not everyday (! ) recent footage of journos whizzing around the idyllic tarmac of Tenerife. Your real-life commentary is also helpful and reassuring.
I’ve also seen a clip of someone saying they won’t go through with their purchase now they’ve seen their reserved bike for real, though seemingly for reasons of aesthetics. Those looked clear enough to me from what Triumph have already released - though I also had a good look at the prototype at the Bike Shed in London last summer, and sat on a production R at the bike show in Birmingham last month. My buy is still on....

Exactly the same here, I had a detailed run through with the very helpful guy in the ‘rocket lounge’ at the nec. He somewhat worriedly asked if I’d be ok waiting until January for my TFC (on order since January) and looked pretty relieved when I told him that was fine. On an XDiavel at the moment so it’s not exactly a desperate situation while I wait.

Nice video, shame about the conditions, but you maneuvered them well. I own three Rocket 3's. Two 2005's and one 2013. One of my 05's is in a stretched/raked, hardtail frame with a car tire on the rear. My favorite is my old 05 with 65,000 miles, and going strong. Has a Jardine header system, and really growls.

Looks very nice.........and surprisingly settled on those wet lanes. You had me on edge there! :-) Wonder if you'll haggle out a deal on one and part ex the Scrambler. Imagine how good it will be on open, dry roads with a sexier pipe! I guess anyone considering one should ride the Diavel and the new 1800 BMW, but on the face of it, this looks to be the 'nicest' looking of the 3 and has the most charisma.
I really tried to be critical and maybe not be so keen.....Epic fail....It's the TFC that's my problem - or should I say the size of my piggy bank! Some thinking to do! Cheers - Farmer

@@FarmerTorque yeah, a very very big fan but the one I had (2012-15 - look at my videos) was hit by a stupid wife playing with her GPS and not stopping at a STOP sign ... me only very blue legs and arms but engine broken by crashbar that split part of the carter .... me 67 then and my lovely wife did not want me to buy an new one or to repare .... pitty yeah but love is stronger than rockets ... she told me she was always very scary when I got out and now she couldn't stand it any longer .... I understood and now I enjoy Rocket videos ..... yeah man ..... ;-) ;-)

I cheat a bit and use the farms Karcher 580 steam cleaner at sensible heat/pressures and
And never focus on one area - in other words what the trade do. I don’t think it would be any more difficult than other bikes.

FarmerTorque . Thanks, yes, cleaning is fun to, but I’m not a fan of the black part getting grey and then have to use spray to get the black finish back, if you know what I mean. I’m having a HD Street Glide CVO 2018 model but like Triumph, and this bike is 100 kilo lighter :)
How does it stack against the the Yamaha VMax 1700 v4 at the 1/4 and half mile... I cannot see it beating it at either and it will be slower around corners...
Hi Alexander - the only way to be sure is to get the bikes together - As I have mentioned in previous vids I now have Racelogic gps tech to record performance figures but wasn’t possible with this new bike.
However whilst the Yamaha has more top end power the Rocket has a huge advantage in torque - I’ve weighed the triumph at 315kilos full of fuel so very similar
My guess would be the triumph would take the 1/4 - the Yamaha power may win at a have mile - maybe
In the corners unless clearance is an issue on either I think the rocket would do very well indeed.
Of course, unable to prove anything !!!!

I like the left side just as much. More minimalist. I wouldn't have a quickshifter, either. I have recently learned that I like a powerful front brake. I've bought a secondhand SCR950. The front brake worried me at first, then I dabbed on the back one. I can afford a Rocket 3 R, but I am in Thailand. We are right up north, so the roads are not as congested, but the driving is still questionable. Do I need a bigger bike than my 950? 315 kg wet/fuelled isn't too bad. The weight is low down. See, I'm rationalising things.
I’m definitely going test ride the rocket 3 and if I like it I’ll be trading in my T120. I think the rocket 3 is a beautiful bike.

I have an 06 Rocket here in New Zealand have been into the dealer and seen the red and the black R3R ones and waiting to see the GT in the coming weeks.
I am in two minds as to take it for a test ride encase l love it and then I get disappointed with what I have.
My mate has been for a ride on it already and is now trying to sell his 2016 Rocket So he can buy one but at 35k it's alot of money.
One of the few bikes that straddle cruiser market and streetbike/racer market, I think you could take that bike to either group and they would be impressed.

FarmerTorque, quick question. When you rode in the rain/wet roads, did the water from the back of the tire spray the back of both your helmet and jacket ?
It did a bit, but not too bad, however overall protection wasn’t great - not a bike to enjoy a long ride in the rain ! On the right bike I enjoy wet riding 👍

No problems - I found it really comfortable. Between the two I prefer the R riding position.

@@FarmerTorque What does that mean? Why haven't any reviews talked about the gear box? That's one of the very first parts of a motorcycle review (no offense). The engine & transmission are both of equal importance, most of the driving experience is shifting.
@@Ritalie If you take a look at my video at around 13.20 mins I DO talk about the gearbox - describing it as very good - as mentioned the bike does not feel under-geared in any way - it is very relaxed. Hope this helps you - Farmer

Great review - except for the quickshifter comment - they're always fun (providing they include an auto-blipper). Triumph make so many models I'd like as a second bike. I'll add this to the list!
Nice you enjoyed the vid - My quick-shifter thing is just a personal dislike - I just love changing gear myself - as long as I can switch it off I'm fine - which Triumph do - so all good !!!!!
Traded the Victory Jackpot for one of these fellas, Farmer... now get to decide every week-end whether I like the 2015 version or the 2020 version better... first world problem, I reckon, but holy smokes am I having fun getting that sorted!

Ummm....interesting question, Certainly it would do it, low speed stuff is easy peesey - I wouldn't buy one to use in the city - but if it were your only bike it would get buy admirably - Farmer

I wish Triumph would offer an enlarged tank to go with it - say 8 gal. That's the only thing missing for this bike, IMO.

@@FarmerTorque my Tiger 800 has a 5 gallon tank, but a much smaller engine, and already I feel like I have to fill up too often.
It would be nice if they would offer a larger tank as an upgrade/accessory - I doubt it would look so bad that I would be deterred from preferring it.

I've been pining for a Rocket 3 for a long long time... and the
dealership nearest to me doesn't allow test-rides on the Rocket 3 (wth?)
The purported specs of the bike excite my imagination, but I don't want
to have a $20k regret... I may try to find a used one. I've been riding
a 2001 800cc Triumph Bonneville somethingorother for about 6 years now,
I paid $500 for it... it is the best bike I've ever owned... so
comfortable... but I want more motor... I have a back injury that
prevents me from riding "crotch rockets", I need to be sitting upright
in a comfortable stance. Thank you for sharing your story, I have a
feeling I'm going to end up getting a rocket 3 someday, and whether I
like it or not... I'll make myself get used to it =) cheers.

Seems to me this bike is the ultimate expression of what I felt when I rode a Yamaha V-Max for the first time. I think I'll definitely have one someday..... Only real decision will be whether to keep my Tiger 800 as well.

I get the giggling when you twist the right wrist. I hear that a LOT with the earlier model when someone gets on it for the first time. I have an 07 R111 and its " A little modified" ;) . I'm just curious if you rode the earlier model R111 prior to this. If so, is the torque THAT much more noticeable? Personally. I REALLY don't like the rear end (I disliked the Diavel for the same reason) so I am unlikely to be looking to buy one, but Im interested to know the foregoing. Ps. thanks for taking the time to make the Vid' and I LOVE the 360% shots!!!!

But I have chatted with those who have ridden both.
Here’s my thoughts -
The new bike is painfully good, be of no doubt.
But if your bike probably has more charisma and that’s the thing to consider.
You will know if it’s time for a change.
If it is, buy the new bike without a concern.
There you go....
