I will be reenacting the 147th New York's march to and action at Gettysburg this summer, so this is perfect for learning what they did on July 1st. Wonderful tour and great video, I will need this info this summer.
@Patrick Ancona I hope you had fun whipping those damn yankees. I was at the 145th anniversary reenactment in '09. We portrayed the 5th Louisiana infantry regiment. Now my great grandfather's cousins and brother-in-laws were in the 4th Texas Infantry Regiment,Co.K of Hood's Texas Brigade. And you know they fought at Devils Den and Little Round Top. DEO VINDICE!!!
Did you "die" at your reenactment or take a wounding? I performed reenactments for over 10 years in the Trans-Mississippi theater. I was in a unit that had my Great grandfather's numerical designation. He was a Texas ground pounder( lnfantryman). The first event l participanted in 1999 was The Battle of Mansfield in the Red River Campaign. This was on the actual battlefield. It's a Louisiana State Park, and Yankee General N.P."Commissary" Banks was stopped cold on April 8,1864. This spoiled his plan to capture Shreveport,La. and invade East Texas on a Cotton stealing expedition he and his minions had dreamed up. Read Shelby Foote's third volume The Civil War-a narrative. That episode starts the third book.
Ranger Siggins! I recognize this gentleman; he did our 90-minute battle walk which covered all three days of the battle. He was engaging and a very nice gentleman. Hoping to see him again soon.
The more I learn about the first day of battle, the more I find it more interesting to think about. Great presentation.

A French kepi for a typical groundpounder(infantryman.

Walt Disney July 1 1863- 1901
Any idea what the correct head gear for the 147th at that time is?
A picture of Alfred Stratton shows the blue uniform with the diamond corps insignia on his arm. He has the kepi hat with the French horn on it.
