Also, for anyone wondering: "generations" are not a scientific thing (sociologists and economists sometimes use the term "age cohort" which is vaguely similar), but the aforementioned generational categories were made up by a couple of marketing researchers.

There is a near universal agreement between research and statistics organisations that the Baby Boomer generation lasted from 1946 to 1964. All the other generations are basically just marketing.

I recall in school (as an Australian) that one of my teachers mentioned Neighbours as a cultural export to the UK, and that their understanding of it was that UK audiences were enthralled in part by being able to see people of similar socioeconomic status to them living in houses with yards, gardens, etc. Since all the 'land' in the UK was largely occupied by farmers and the rich, and your average person lived in flats and townhouses.
Not sure how true any of that is, that's just how they explained the popularity :P

4:44 fun little Harrison ford fact here. he is close personal friends with Roman Polanski and personally accepted an oscar for him, hand delivering it to him in Poland. Suggesting he doesn’t really mind being associated with giant nonces or about other peoples opinions on his legacy as he’s perfectly willing to taint it like that.
Damn yeah, I didn't really know much about him. I barely knew his name until a podcast I was listening to did an episode on him, and I was surprised he was such an open nonce and nothing was done about it.
Lenard Nemoy (Spock) also had this dilemma earlier in his career. He wrote a book even, titled "I am not Spock". But he totally turned around his feelings about it by the end. RIP Spock 🖖
BTW on the topic of Hodor - Kristian Nairn played an amazing role in the TV show Our flag means death! By Taika Waititi. I totally recommend watching it! It's so good. Hell I wanna watch it again now lol..

Indiana Jones is pretty much the only role Harrison Ford ever talks about positively. He absolutely hates Han Solo even though he's basically Indy in space.
i mean to be fair to harrison ford. he only agreed to be in the sequal triology if they killed off his character. he doesnt like han solo as a character. and since the force awakening kinda hinges on the mellenium falcon being back (for fan service) he had to be back. but yeah he should probebly retire. i love his old films and thats enough.

I will make the point, that literally no one else brings up spiders, snakes and other animals, except for people who don't live in Australia. That's because either 1) they live deep in the city and never see much of them, or 2) it's just everyday life and not a big deal.

Neighbors and Home & Away were huge in Norway as well. I don't know what Australia was doing at that time, but I feel like they sold those two shows globally in a way that they have never been able to do again with any other show. Skippy, then Neighbors and Home and Away and The Crocodile Hunter, and then we've had basically nothing Australian on the TV ever since.
Makes it seem like the Australian entertainment industry peaked with Neighbors...

Go back to your talk about Harrison Ford's relation to modern fandoms and then remember that these fandoms (mostly horrible nerds) will spend all of their money if they feel like Hollywood or anyone is appealing to them in even the slightest and deadest way. Now that the big money guys at Hollywood know that, they are exploiting it for all its worth. Because nerds are easy to exploit.
