This is a fantastic and fascinating series that deserves a large audience. This one in particular hooked me with India's music, the scenery you shot (I'm going to paint the shot at 42secs) and I love what you did with the half-porthole glass.
You have such a creative and talented friend in India! When you pulled that porthole from the mud it looked like a picture of the sea with clouds above. The glass fish on it now is awesome! I wish you a very merry Christmas and a happy new year full of great finds!

I have just stumbled across your channel this morning and am hooked! Thank you for sharing your finds and love India's voice too. A lovely way to spend a while unwinding in this way. I was born and bred in South London and wish I'd had taken more notice of the river back then! Now in my 60's and I live in Somerset actually near a river but sadly out of bounds mostly but always on the look out for interesting finds anywhere I go (think I was a Magpie in a previous life!) Porthole find - I knew people who would use thick glass from portholes to make mirrors for reflector telescopes. They would grind and polish the glass by hand (a very long process), then pay to have the reflective plating applied. Finding suitable porthole glass is rather difficult these days. The telescope makers had their best days when ships dating from WW2 were being broken up for scrap. I liked your singer!
I dont know where you would get the reflective glass coating done these days. J. Pearce, the inventor of the vacuum process for doing it, has shut up & dismantled his workshop because there was no longer enough demand to justify continueing.
@@sarahstrong7174 Gosh... These guys sent the glass (after it was ground) off to another city. Maybe it was Chicago? I wonder if there are home-built telescope web sites or magazines that are informed about the mirror process? There used to be household mirror refinishing places in various cities. I wonder if they would do the job for a telescope?

Put the sea horse on a piece of paper and cover it in a pile of salt,i used to preserve small fish in this way,leave it for a few days and the salt will draw all the moisture out of the horse.

the porthole is absolutely broken in the right place to make a base mounted art piece. The pipe is beautiful and fun to watch the extraction. I agree the bear looks more like a bubble bath bottle than a honey bottle. It does not look squeezable like a honey bottle would be. I would swoon to find any of the horses like you did, though only a seahorse it if is happy and free in the water. I love your new trend of panning and allowing us to find for ourselves. I will be on the foreshore on the Jan 11 - 13 permit and look forward to putting your teaching to work. Thank you Nicola for all you teach us. I found a sea horse when I was a youngin on an east coast spring beach combing trip with my sister and parents. The beach had'nt been cleaned in March and there were tons of shells, star fish and a sea horse. It was cold but there were so many shells we didnt care. Omgosh! What a beautiful voice your friend has going! Haven't been a fan of jazz, but she has turned me completely around. All in all, just a beautiful video for a Christmas Eve here in the States. The seahorse was so special. As a fellow artist I don't know how you don't go home with just bags and bags of stuff. I would be like, "Oh, I can use that in this, and oh, this would look so good with that!" It's good to see wildlife and sea life returning to the Thames. We used to find lots of dead seahorses and starfish when I was a child. Dried them out. Some became Christmas tree ornaments.
Or put him in resin as a little block. That was quite popular in the 70s or 80s...

the porthole is absolutely broken in the right place to make a base mounted art piece. The pipe is beautiful and fun to watch the extraction. I agree the bear looks more like a bubble bath bottle than a honey bottle. It does not look squeezable like a honey bottle would be. I would swoon to find any of the horses like you did, though only a seahorse it if is happy and free in the water.
I love your new trend of panning and allowing us to find for ourselves. I will be on the foreshore on the Jan 11 - 13 permit and look forward to putting your teaching to work.

A very Happy Christmas Nicola, I am so glad to have found and subscribed to your channel some time ago now. Still enjoying your videos. India is a very talented musician and singer and I was very pleased to have had the opportunity to listen and enjoy her singing. I found a sea horse when I was a youngin on an east coast spring beach combing trip with my sister and parents. The beach had'nt been cleaned in March and there were tons of shells, star fish and a sea horse. It was cold but there were so many shells we didnt care. Omgosh! What a beautiful voice your friend has going! Haven't been a fan of jazz, but she has turned me completely around. All in all, just a beautiful video for a Christmas Eve here in the States. The seahorse was so special. As a fellow artist I don't know how you don't go home with just bags and bags of stuff. I would be like, "Oh, I can use that in this, and oh, this would look so good with that!" It's good to see wildlife and sea life returning to the Thames.
