- Hey everyone! Happy New Years and welcome back to my channel!
If it wasn’t already clear from the title, this video is going to be a little different from the ones I’ve made in the past. Basically, I want to take you along for a day in my life as a college student at Tulane University, so you can learn a little more about me and also because I live in New Orleans, which is one of the coolest cities in America.
Tulane is a private university that was founded 1834. At Tulane, we have around 14,000 students, most of whom are not from the South, including myself since I’m originally from Chicago.
Now I absolutely love living here, but there are definitely a few things that took some getting used to when I first moved to New Orleans:
1. Hurricanes
2. Cockroaches. Everywhere.
3. The worst roads in the entire country.
4. The language.
Here’s some more info about some of the places I visit in the video:
Tulane University: The only private research university in Louisiana. I’m a junior at Tulane, where I study Finance, Political Economy, and Italian.
Maple Street: A quaint street within walking distance from Tulane with lots of small businesses and restaurants.
Carrollton Cemetery: One of New Orleans’ many historic above-ground cemeteries, located in the Carrollton neighborhood of Uptown New Orleans.
Audubon Park:
An Uptown park on the banks of the Mississippi River. Audubon is a popular hangout spot among Tulane students, especially the part closest to the river that’s nicknamed “The Fly.”
City Park:
A 1,300-acre park located south of Lake Pontchartrain. City Park is one of the most visited urban parks in the United States and is 50% larger than Central Park in New York City.
The French Quarter (Vieux Carré):
The oldest (and one of the highest) neighborhoods in New Orleans. Most of the buildings were constructed in the late 18th century, when the Spanish ruled New Orleans. The French Quarter is also the neighborhood in New Orleans that is most visited by tourists, especially Bourbon Street and Jackson Square.

Great Connor! The best one yet for me and the most informative............Thanks Y 'all !
Thanks for the support!
Hey dude I saw your videos about your experiences in Italy! You are amazing !!! Keep going
Great video! I'll be moving to town next month! Thanks for the preview (:
What a good video! I learned so much about New Orleans, and what your typical day looks like. I love the barber shop, and the cool architecture.
Awesome! Thank you!
Keep this coming man!
I attended a summer camp in New Orleans at Loyola University a couples of years ago when I was in high school (I am from Italy). It was the first city I visited in the United States and your video made me going back to that days!
Literally the best video that i have watched on RUclips so far ! Congratulations!
Grazie assaje 🙏
Such a well produced video, and interesting content!
Amazing video - definitely going to ask for some more tips
Lol thanks Alex! I hope you don't mind, but I added your name as tag. You know... SEO purposes... had to do it... 😅
I guess I watch both of you now.
Wow some really interesting stuff and a brilliantly put together video!
Glad you enjoyed it, Mikail! I wanted to try something new to end 2020. And maybe I was also feeling a little jealous about all the attention people give to New York and LA... 😂
Connor Gleason fair enough! I went to ny, dc, Miami and Vegas the summer before last and I’ve been to LA as a kid but I’m as interested if not more in places with less of a tourist scene
@@yourfirstsecondlanguage4782 Well New Orleans definitely has a tourism scene--there's like 1.5 million people that come for Mardi Gras alone. But it's mostly domestic tourists, and not many foreigners.
Connor Gleason domestic tourism doesn’t ‘count’ for me for purposes of somewhere being ‘too touristy’ ... I like to be a hypocritical holiday maker ie find the places without other foreign tourists and where applicable, places where English isn’t spoken as much by the locals, shopkeepers etc
@@yourfirstsecondlanguage4782 I guess that's a good way of looking at things. Always best to follow the locals. Just a heads up--I think you might have a typo in your channel name. I know because I always do the same thing when writing "language"
😂
Damn you put in me the will to visit New Orleans, hope covid end soon. I miss travelling.
Ahaha thanks Andrea! I'm glad you liked the video. My goal is just to have tourists visit some city other than New York or LA 😂
Happy New Year! Were you living in Italy before? Was it just a semester or year abroad? Very nice showcase of the campus! Have fun!
Haha glad you enjoyed it! I stayed with an Italian host family a couple summers back. That's what I'm making my next video about. The study abroad comes next year 😉
@@connorgioiafigliu Ah that makes sense then. Awesome, excited for you!
Happy New Year!🌷🌹💞👍 my friend, see you again
Happy New Years!
Such a cool video! New sub here from the uk 🇬🇧 ✌️😊
Glad you liked it!
Amazing video!
Thanks Armani!
Nice video enjoy your day always and take care
Thank you!
I got accepted into Tulane, but I’m having trouble figuring out how I’m going to pay for Tulane since it’s so expensive. Any tips on what I should do?
Tulane accepted me with a sizeable chunk of merit aid and I wouldn't have been able to attend without it. On top of that, I applied to lots of scholarships through Tulane and back in my hometown. One of them was the Paul Tulane Award, and even though I didn't end up getting it, Tulane increased my merit aid offering because they liked my essay.
My roommate Alex Suh spent an insane amount of time researching scholarships and it really paid off for him. He's got a couple videos about it on his own RUclips channel. But ultimately, if you can't find a way to make Tulane work financially, it's probably best to pick a cheaper school. I absolutely love Tulane, but there's no school in the world that's worth 25 years of student loan repayments.
smooth video, I even late for bedtime, 😮
Thank you!
YESSSS PROTEIN 💪
Gotta chase those gains 💪
Wooow, woow, I am suprised that you released a video at the end of 2020. This will be your last video of 2020. Happy New Years to you and your family.
Haha thanks James! I couldn't go all December without posting a video! I've been working on this all week. Happy New Years!
@@connorgioiafigliu I am William Ounj youtube deleted my account.
@@jamesatem6046 I remember you!!! 😉
Hey man I got accepted as a transfer, how did you find good off campus housing? (since it’s unlikely I’ll be able to get a dorm as a transfer)
Hey Ruben, sorry I missed this! Facebook is usually the best place to look, specifically Tulane Classifieds (just watch out for scams/bad landlords) or the Facebook group for your class. Hopefully you were able to find a good place to live!
@@connorgioiafigliu hahah I didn’t end up going because they gave me no aid and I didn’t want to get into debt undergrad
joined with you, hope to see you again
Thank you!
Green Olives Cafe on maple st 😋😋
Ok I see you
Thanks G 🙏
Not sure how i found your video lol.. Super interesting tho. Also, you never heard people in Chicago say 'y'all' before? There's a whole lot of Black people (and others) there who have origins from the South lol
City Park isn’t 10 minutes from Tulane 😂.
If you drive a Nissan Altima with Texas temp plates you can even do it in 9 minutes if there's not too much traffic
So yeah lots of the south say yall
You got it!
Hopefully you tipped those street performers since they made the video
Don't worry, they got $10 😂
