    I appreciate for these videos. Actually I stopped my German learning because at B1 stage I was so confused about everything specially having a conversation with native German. It was sadly because I learned German because I love this language but I felt that I can't learn as my teacher wanted. The language is more than grammar formulas and I couldn't prove it for months. Thank you very much. Learning languages need research and knowledge.

    How long it takes seems to equal how determined and driven you are. I love your approach. It's so logical. I'm in the music (Mey, Wader, Wecker, Hoffmann) and scripted (Duolingo, stories for beginners, and other net sources...including yours) stages. Ja...just living the life. LOL!!!

    My Latin teacher says that it’s okay to use your own dialect ! Take my strong Yorkshire accent, no matter how hard I try I can’t get shot of it !

    Can be helpful for some people. Although, starting to speak straight away is recommended by most professional teachers of different languages.
    Also from personal experience ( as I am a Russian teacher and native speaker) I also recommend to speak the words you already know and speak, sing it , anniunciate, listen to them from native speakers preferably, listen, listen , listen and talk with the locals of the language is the best. It is only natural! it applies to all languages. There are so many benefits in doing so. And works as nature intended!
    It is the same with French and Spanish, teachers in Universities and reputable language schools in those countries will tell you the same.

      Ultimately, learning (a language or anything) is a very personal experience and I say 'whatever works for you, do it!' :-)
      When looking at what typically works best for most people, though, I still maintain that speaking too soon is more of a disadvantage than a benefit.
      This obviously doesn't mean that a person won't eventually learn German perhaps no matter how they go about it (and certainly there are plenty of people who still get there even if their process wasn't arguably ideal --I myself am a good example! I learned [too!] much of my German via conventional means)...
      BUT I am very interested in how students can learn in the most efficient and effective ways possible and I have seen time and time again that speaking too soon is NOT the fastest way for adults to master a language (though the ONLY way for all of us as children, of course).

    50 year old who has wanted to learn German for ever - tried several times and hit every roadblock you have mentioned in your videos. The big question is why I haven't I purchased your program yet --- I really need to just do it !

      First of all your name is amazing. One of the greatest episodes ever. Second I purchased the program and I too am 50, and I have learned more in 2 weeks than I have in years of study ( albeit not as efficiently as it could have been). Do it, you will not be disappointed.

    Hi Laura ! Don’t you have to live in a certain place to learn its language ??

    • @GermanwithLaura
      @GermanwithLaura  2 года назад

      I think it is always helpful to have that local connection, but I don't believe it is absolutely required.

    Once i read if you take your kid to the zoo for the first time , the kid will generate a new sentences .
    The idea is in the brain of the kid something like language machine .
    Could you agree ?

  • @kerrysterll
    @kerrysterll 2 года назад

    I don’t agree with you on that abar I think that people should immerse themselves in German

    • @GermanwithLaura
      @GermanwithLaura  2 года назад +1

      I agree that they should, but there is a time and place for it. It's not as helpful to be fully immersed right at the beginning when you are forced to come up with your own sentences without understanding the grammar behind it. It's a much slower way to learn through trial and error.
