"Several Barnes and Nobles near me..." Brought me to my knees. I have to drive almost 80 miles to my nearest one, fortunately we have an incredibly well funded library and some small local stores that do a good job.
Personally, I found Katherine center to be more traditional contemporary romance than emily henry. Her writing, characters, plot progression, and story arcs are more simple silly goofy with a splash of surface level barely explored depth. One chapter into the body guard you’ll see her breaking the fourth wall in the traditional teen rom com fashion of “hey here’s me being not what’d you think” (very unserious). I think her earlier work is closer to emily henry, but still not really. I mention this because I went in with the wrong expectations, which affected my experience. There’s a book for every mood, ya know. If you’re looking for something closer to Emily Henry, I’ve found that Abby Jimenez comes close (though she can get a bit too trauma heavy at times) and Julie Soto, though she too can sometimes lean into goofiness, similar to Ali Hazelwood ( but better writing imo) - these are all my unsolicited opinions though 🫶🏽🖤 no animosity intended
omg no i appreciate this so much! i actually have since read the bodyguard already 😂 and i definitely know i described her writing wrong in this video, but i read it in my next video so i talk through my thoughts there! it’s definitely much more romcom and and silly goofy so ill be sure to clear that up ☺️ i agree about abby jimenez! she definitely fits emily henry’s vibe, i read her newest book this year and plan to read her other books as well, and though i haven’t checked out julie soto yet this comment makes me want to! thank you so much for taking time to chat ❤️❤️
