I had a coworker whose son was dying of cancer, was divorced, and losing her job because of absentiesm. witnessed to her using the book of Job. Her and her family accepted Christ. She lost her job, the son went on to glory, and she found a new job, a new husband, and is now vice president at a marketing coorporation. Praise be God! And that this book can be used to win one to Christ. People tend to forget the treasure is Lord, and this existence on earth is nothing to be sentimental about

You nailed it on some of the suffering's "fruit." My adult child came out as transgender 3 years ago. The last few years have brought a lot of turmoil for me internally. But I was thinking about some of the long-term fruit from this season. 1. I went from praying for my kids as I thought about it to interceding for them daily. 2. This period has obliterated any pride I had in my parenting. If my kids grow up to be men of God, I know fully it is 100% God's doing. 3. This time, it has revealed idolatry in my heart. I did not know that I loved my family more than God. If you had asked me if I put them before God before this trial I would have said no. But now I know the truth. I have my husband & kids before God in my heart. I worship the creation here instead of the Creator.

Last year I was reading Job and noticed how his "friends" reaction to Job was like the "Holier Than Though" church member today can be. They were criticizing him and condemning him but not one of them took the time to seek how they could help. None offered to even physically help him with the soars. None of them came along side Job and offered to provide a meal or help with his work. They listened to Job, but just to find something to condemn him.

The Salvation Army is still today a church, but they found when they originally started that people wanted help with the physical needs and then they were open to the spiritual needs. In our community I work for a tax-exempt organization that works with those that need a hand (clothes for job hunting, financial mentoring, furniture, and basic toiletries to help them get up and the Salvation Army Church in this valley is always there to help. For me I found I am much more open to hear how I need to change and grow when someone first comes along side and helps with the physical needs.

@missbuckeye, @Irasm5604, praying for reprieve and healing in your lives and for your enduring strength through your suffering.
I know it’s often easier said than done but remember that we are assured and promised ever lasting life in actual physically resurrected bodies without suffering to come. These will be our actual bodies of this life but made transformed from our suffering state. These tribulations won’t last eternity. Whatever suffering we face in this world, whatever happens to our bodies here, can’t detract or take away from what is to come. We haven’t lost anything here as long as we remain of faith, all our loss and suffering is temporary.
“It is sown a perishable body, it is raised an imperishable body" (1 Corinthians 15:42)
I found a good summary online of what Paul goes on to tell us in verse 42-44 which in a nutshell I hope may give you encouragement.
“He says that our current bodies are weak, perishable, unglorified, and natural. But in the resurrection state they will be powerful, imperishable, glorious, and spiritual. Our bodies will be powerful--they will not be subject to stress or fatigue or weakness. Our bodies will be imperishable--they will not get sick, die, age, or become injured. Our bodies will be spiritual--they will be fully oriented to and filled with the Holy Spirit. And our bodies will be glorious”
I have found everything in scripture to literally breath this truth to come - yet so many people seem to think our bodies will die here on earth and we will only have some form of spiritual salvation. They miss that we are promised salvation of our actual bodies that we have today! A physical resurrection just like Christ.
So whatever you ailments or burdens, even those that are chronic and death itself, are not forever. What we lose is not eternal. I pray maybe this gives you some peace through your current suffering; it has for me and my own ailments that I carry in this world.
I won’t pretend I don’t worry or fret in this world (I try not to); but I confess my worry and every time I go to our Father in pray with my burdens and to His word, it is truths like this that His good grace comforts me and reminds me that all I have to do is simply submit to Him in faith. His will and my will are often different - but His will is ALWAYS for our good even when all we can see is suffering.
Job has saved me many times - for anything Job lost in his life, his suffering had purpose for literally millions of people like us who needed to understand God’s sovereignty in the face of suffering and call to simply love and trust him.
      Good bless you all.

I learned I had to trust him and he will never leave me nor forsake me. He also revealed to me that sometimes he allows us to go through hard times to strengthen our faith so that we would not deny him like Peter did at the beginning of his walk with God. I understood what he told me. So now when i go through trials, i ask God for strenght and of course i pray often I fast and i say the bible verse in Job, though he slay me yet I will trust him. Listening to this book for the first time; the thing that stands out to me is the images of these beasts at the end, and those beasts are under God. We can try as we might to understand God, but we will always fall short. Trying to understand everything about God, is like seeing the sky and space through a keyhole. God has power we can't even scratch an understanding about, but he has it, he can see and understand things we can't even dream about.

That the whole point was to ask for more of God in our lives. I've had to face this deeply painful truth--letting God be enough-- during times of deep deep rejection and disappointment in my life. It's gotten to a point where it's been too much for me. I've had to learn the painful truth that God is truly enough even if I am alone single and miserable.

The gold standard within us is proven when we suffer and still hang on to the hem of his robes. It's so easy to surrender to blame him for your troubles, but if we see that it's for his glory, and our growth in him, then our faith becomes stronger and more mature. This is a great lesson. I've read the narrative as Job performing the rituals in the beginning to Job finally seeing God for who He is and repenting in Job 40:42:6. Suffering reveals the motives behind our actions. It is so easy to get into our ritualistic routines, which can be good things like Job offering sacrifices or Christians going to church/mass, thinking that is what pleases God, yet we miss what God really desires...for us to repent and trust Him because of how great and awesome He is.

Funny story: After reading the last chapter, one group of my teens were highly incensed because Job got all new kids at the end. They said, "What about his old kids? They, like, just died, and he was happy because he got new ones?" Also, I have to mention that verse in the first chapter that you quoted about where Satan said he had had been walking to and fro in the earth. That always runs a chill up my spine. He's still doing the same thing today.

🦋thank you for sharing your beliefs and knowledge. Job is indeed a hard one that keeps showing lessons to me. I realize in my own life that I’ve turned on God in trouble with “What did I do to deserve this. I’ve been a good person. And asked forgiveness when I’ve been wrong”. I was so wrong. I will continue being wrong and hopefully God will point this out with the knowledge of why

I really suffered when I came to the Lord 49 years ago. In my extreme weakness the Lord was in my life in the midst of all my suffering. I would never want to return there ever again. But the Lord was so real in the midst of all the pain. That's really the only thing I received in going through down town hell. In NIV instead of sons of God, it says, angels.

Amen and thank you, Melissa, I've read and studied Job many times, youve even given very similar insights Ive gotten from out if the Book of Job. It the midst of his sufferings and losses and even his wife and friends coming against him as well throughout to the end, I've even noticed he never cursed nor sinned against God as Satan thought he would have had as well. Job, he might have gone through so much, he was also accounted unto righteousness by God and spoken about in the new testament. As the Book of Job is pointing to Christ, I still go to this book often, not only to be inspired, but as an encouragement and reminder, that God's Sovereign providence is always near in the midst of my sufferings as well as even in good days, I'm always thankful for what I have, to be content with and without, with blessings and losses, and more. And, because of Him alone, He is my only Hope and only One I fully trust. Ive been through much, but I will continue to hope and trust Him more and more. God bless you Melissa. And thank you, its been a blessing when you've shared these points from the Book of Job. 🤗📖🙏🕊❤️

Thank you, this is THE best message on Job I’ve heard yet. So very helpful. ❤
I’m reading through the Bible for the first time and was trying to figure out my negative feelings while in the Old Testament (haven’t made it to the NT yet!). It finally dawned on me…some of it I don’t WANT to be true! Which led me to realize that many people probably are “I-don’t-want-to-believe’ers” rather than are true “non-believers”. It would affect their lives too much and they don’t want that.

A little comment regarding what you said about 2020.
If I'm really honest, I was very discouraged from 2020-2021 not by the virus, politics, or social concerns but by why I saw people who professed to Christian in US do when those events occurred. I know we have dropped the ball and have a long ways to go here in the US (and before anyone says it, yes I know, last days), but the embarrassing egg we too those two years really broke my heart. I guess I was hoping a little two much that this could be one time were we really show Christ to the country like how the Church has done historically in times of crisis.
Fortunately, I have come out a bit wiser from that situation. Hopefully next crisis, I can be a bit more focused on why God wants me to do, and I can be used to bless others and even share or remind them of the Gospel. I pray I can do that next time around, Lord willing.

You've made some brilliant points and brought clarity to a difficult book. So so true. I grew spiritually and my love for and dependence on God has grown more in the last 5 years of what has felt like attacks on all fronts, than i did in the former 5 years when it was pretty smooth sailing. I'd never wish my pain and trials on anyone, but at the same time I'm so thankful for what God has taught me as He brought me through it all. I recently discovered my baptism testimony i wrote 10 years ago, and read something i had forgotten all about: there was a time right before i was born again that at a very low point i said from the depths of my soul "God help me to rely only on You". Didnt know why i even said that, where it came from. But within months i was radically saved, and now having gone (and still going) through immense trials i can see God has answered my prayer through my suffering. Thank You Lord. Sorry wrote more than i planned to but God is so good and your wonderful video really resonated with me. Don't give up hope brothers and sisters in Christ, there is a better day coming, God is faithful to not only see you through but grow and bless you in ways you never thought possible.❤

Wonderful points to this very important part of scripture. I have studied Job for decades and find that each time the Lord reveals more and more of himself and gives me a deeper understanding of himself. Job is one of the richest and complex books in the Bible but it is full of great wisdom. I agree that we need to set aside our own experiences and, in a sense, biases and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the fullness and the depth of God’s love for us in the entire book of God’s Word including the treasure found in the book of Job. I also struggled with understanding Job when I read it the first few times until I realized I was making the same error as Job’s three friends. I was leaning on my own understanding instead of trusting in the wisdom of God. Blessings to you.

There is so much insight in your take on Job. I loved the discernment contrasting the point that Job's sons were already sanctified before the burnt offerings to honor the Lord. I have never considered that point. Yes, symbolism of Jesus is rich in Job, even chapter 38 that talks of when the cornerstone was laid. My favorite is:
Job 19:25-26; “As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives,
And at the last He will take His stand on the earth.
Even after my skin is destroyed,
Yet from my flesh I shall see God;"
    Blessings,
    Look Up!

Like you said, there is a theological debate going on throughout this book. When my pastor went through Job a few years ago, I remember he pointed out how Job's friends had a theological/worldview perspective of God that if you "do good, you get good...if you do bad, you get bad". Therefore, in their minds, Job "must have" done something wrong...Job says, nope, I didn't do anything wrong...
We learn a lot about God and evaluating our worldview by studying this book and going through trials ourselves.
    Thanks for the great video!

I feel that my wife and I are, have been in a Job like story for that past decad. Multiple back to back deaths in the family, her on going health struggles, job losses and financial struggles. I think the worst for her for a while was her being told by family memebers that you're not pregnant because you don't have faith, you're not heald because you don't have faith, but in a way this also brought her back into reading the bible more.

Great video. If we understand that the Bible is an unfolding testimony of Christ then we will understand what God is doing through Job. He lived probably around Abraham's time, and the idea of suffering despite being in good standing was revolutionary, yet this is the suffering servant that was coming in the Messiah. It's a brilliant book, one of my favorite.

This was very good. Job and his friends believed in a false doctrine, be good and God will be good to you. That’s why Job’s friends kept telling him to confess his sin. Job had not done anything to warrant the attack, however his friends sure thought so. Job came to understand the rain falls on the just and the unjust, he said at the end of the book Job 42:5 I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee. Oswald Chambers taught me that, among other things, his book on Job is really good. I lost my family ten years ago due to a very, very unfaithful and narcissistic spouse and I am still without family. I was asking the Lord today, “why?”

Great video, Melissa - you make some great points. People who want to talk about theodicy as if it's something new or that they're the first person to ever think of it make me laugh. The LORD foresaw your objections long ago and even made sure to include a book in scripture addressing it. How can He allow the innocent to suffer? The answer is right there in the question; we are NOT innocent, not a single one of us. Our guilt - us being a sinner - is not in our actions, it's who we are. I'm not a sinner because I sin, I sin because I am a sinner. Let us just be grateful that He doesn't deal with us as we truly deserve because we'd no longer be here if He did. If the road in life gets bumpy along the way, instead of getting angry at Him for allowing it, we should thank Him for getting us through it when it happens.
