Live in Australia. Everything gets the "y/ie" treatment. Brekkie, sunnies, chippies, sparky's, etc, etc, etc,.

The adding of a superfluous vowel to the ending of words phenomena that John refers to: here’s an alternative theory: Might it come from an affectation that crept into pop music around the turn of the millennium. I’m thinking of Britney Spears. Maybe Alanis Morissette.Any thoughts?

I don't know whence it comes, but it drives me up the wall. I will correct my seven and ten year old grandsons when they employ it.
