It's only slightly different in gameplay compared to bf6/II/big red one. Save for few things like the big blimps crashing, that big ass train, there's not too many things like in the base game modes. This has been an insight from someone who stopped caring after bf3 allure fell off, peace.
They always had microtransactions, remember BF4 starterpacks? And who cares about characters, it's not like your constantly stating and jerking off at your character in a first person shooter. BF5 was a good game that didn't deserve the way it was treated.

Smooth movement system, no random bullet deviation, kept the vehicle module system from BF1 which made shot placement actually important and the graphics are very pretty. If they kept BFV in development for another year so the pacific was included at launch, had the eastern front as the big post-launch addition and actually had a competent marketing team it would've gone down as one of the best Battlefield games ever made. I can't bring myself to go back to BF1 or earlier titles given how good we had it with the smooth gameplay and no random bullet deviation in V.
Every Battlefield has had a rough start. Long neck guy, m26 dart and usas with frags from BF3 launch year. Horrible netcode, jet powered tanks and frictionless guy from bf4 launch year. More bad metcode, horribly unbalanced weapons and even worse timing for bfh. The list goes on and on
one of the advantages that the MG42 had in comparison with other machineguns was exactly how fast the barrel changing was, most games doesnt show this aspect of weapons, so its nice to see it somewhere
They were actually given an asbestos glove, just for swapping the barrel. It's just easier and quicker to grab whatever is laying beside the gun at that moment, which there is plenty of empty shells scattered about.

The real gun does have a notch in the back of the barrel for a spent case to be used to pull a hot barrel out. That's why Gun Jesus gave this input for the weapon.
Funny you say that because halfway through BFV post launch a lot of veteran Dice devs left. So EA hired a lot of new inexperienced devs to replace them. It's basically a new Dice team.

Franz Grokel was a German soldier in a bunker on D-Day. He and his machine gun gunned down 180 Americans and firing roughly 17,000 rounds and 9 barrel changes. It haunted him and he met with an American D-Day survivor/veteran from the company that stormed his bunker. They cried, looked back and shared perspectives, and became friends.
It would of taken much longer than that. One of the reasons that Omaha beach was taken on dday was that the german guns couldnt keep firing because they had fired so much the barrels kept melting.
I love it when people defend the game’s historical inaccuracies with “it’s just a game” or “it wouldn’t be fun if it was accurate.” Like you have no idea how cool it’d actually be for them to try to be as accurate as possible. It wouldn’t be just a “game” it’d be an experience. That’s art right there.

I love how BF4 Dice tried to convince us that people can run around with an LMG, 500 rounds of ammunition, infinite ammo boxes, and portable mortar frames with around 4 mortars each can run around fast. I love how BF1 Dice tried to convince us that running around with 3 bundles of dynamite, an anti-material rifle, 6 spare SMG mags, and an SMG (in a war where there wasn't SMG usage) with an attached holographic sight is realistic AND can run around fast. Battlefields have never cared about historical accuracy or strict realism, get over yourself.
That’s actually a very nice small detail. Also, when the player shoots full auto, the fire rate starts to slow down due to the barrel being over heated.
Something that a lot of people still don’t seem to realize in BF5 it’s fast to wait for it to cool down then change the barrel Before someone argues this go test it yourself first and yes I know it’s only 2 seconds vs 3 seconds but in a battle but that one extra second could mean the difference between dying or living
Wish more developers got people in that actually have knowledge of weapons, like the Metro guy when you reload a not empty rifle in Metro it will be 31 bullets not 30.
What's cool is the gun is still being used by the German military just rechambered in NATO standard 7.62 and renamed to the MG3 it has a slower fireate but it's still insanely fast 800 to a 1000 rounds per minute but still amazing and made a little bit differently like the materials and some internal parts but other than that it's a mg42
I miss Red Orchestra/Rising Storm. You had to change out barrels after some time with MGs, and could run out, or even blow a barrel. That shit was super realistic for a 2009 game

I did this during my military service in austria with the mg 74 (the same just made in austria) having played bfv swapping the barrel with a cartridge instead of the annoying glove they give you. My sargeant looked at me funny but impressed to having done it fast.
People judged it based on it's marketing and launch. The game became really great after some updates. Such a shame it had to die for a literal dumbster-fire (BF2042)

You could feel every bullet in this game. Incredibly good hit detection.
