I’m a cowboy boot designer. Wear them the way you want but , traditionally the shaft was worn to cover the pant leg so cows can’t hook ya . ( take their horn an hook your denim pants an snap your leg ) usually worn with leather chaps an spur pads .
So the shaft is basically meant to protect your leg, so it likely tends to be hard leather to pierce while the fact that it's a high shaft boot just stops getting hooked from below when they raise their heads? The versatility of them is really cool since you could do that while working, then put jeans over them while hiking to avoid ticks, or to make them look more formal (though not dress shoe formality, of course). I've been considering getting myself a pair, though I'll save up for a good ~$150-$200 set, since that's where most boots start being resolable, I'd presume?

Just be a grown ass man and don’t wear “skinny” jeans. True cowboy cut jeans are plenty form fitting and wide enough at the bottom so you don’t look like Peter Pan pants. Plus there is a major difference between skinny and slim/straight fits. And for god sakes wear a heavy atleast 14 oz. denim not those paper thin stretchy jeans. It’s all about the denim trousers!
I have to wear tapered jeans, because my upper legs are really big from being in the Army, which aren’t skinny jeans, but the leg opening at the bottom do tend to be smaller. I find that once the boots break-in it becomes easier to get them in a narrower leg opening.
I work in construction. Lately lot of new subdivisions where it gets incredibly muddy when it rains. I were a western style work boot and when it’s that muddy and I’m all up in it I always tuck my jeans into my boots that’s the way my granddaddy wore his in the fields and that’s how I do as well. Anytime else boot cut wranglers exclusively. 🍻👍🏻
What I do is cut off the tops of some good crew socks, maybe 2" or so, and pull those sock rings up my leg before I put my boots on. Then you can pull those sock rings down over the boot shaft a bit, and let them cinch it up tighter to your calf and not flop around in your pants as you walk. Then if you need to pull your boots off, you aren't messing around un-tying ropes and cutting off zip ties like a weirdo. No one will even know they're up there around your other sock. Put em back when you pull your boots back on.

Skinny in the thighs is actually preferred as folds in the pants make for hot spots on horseback. But yeah, skinny around the opening just don't work with cowboy boots 😂

Be a real cowboy wear wool trousers or cotton everyday pants with chaps and boots specifically stovepipe. Maybe you can wear stovepipe Boots that men wore in the 19th century and wear them over the slimmer pants might help with the stranglers problem
Cowboy Boots have only been around since the late 1800's! People have been wearing them with jeans almost as long as good old fashioned wool or cotton trousers!

I wear the same socks with my work boots, cowboy boots, twisted x shoes, and regular shoes. If you gotta ask that question, you shouldn't be trying to wear cowboy boots.
Howdy! We use different socks here at the shop. I personally use socks that I wear with every shoe type since it's so hot here! There are a lot of people that use a thicker boot sock or a cushioned sock! It really depends on what's comfortable for you. Socks will impact fit though! Easy fix that I found when I wear tighter jeans is to always get a pair that are longer it lets you push the pants down onto the boots farther and gets rid of the boot bulge I do it every time and it looks better then the straps on the boots that can make the boot less comfy

Once the leather softens up, it will mold a bit to your shape and be easier to slide into a narrow pants leg. We agree!
