It’s a pretty popular place for Kansai residents to visit. I love the Kyotango area which isn’t too far away. Also there’s a ski resort an hour away😃. Let’s just say you could do a lot worse.
If I'd be buying outside the belt then I'd probably be looking at Setonaikai area out of personal preference, and failing that I'd still probably consider Kyushu or Hokuriku regions before Shimane prefecture.

I like the place cause of the lake but then you mentioned the NUKE plants all I could think of was Fukushima no thank you.
Lol the exact same thoughts ran through my head. I can deal with a dirty house and a renovation but not a nuclear plant.
Speaking of belt- what is the tourism belt? Preferably small to mid size towns.
Domestic tourism, or foreign? Foreign tourism seems to be Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka.
