I’m a minister, and I agree with you 110% that a church service doesn’t belong at a “business” convention! That’s faith manipulation and cult-like behavior, pure and simple.

As a Christian, mass worship is an incredibly overwhelming sensation emotionally. The human body just rewards you when you're With The Group. Ever been to a concert where the audience is singing together? It's like that, but with added impact because it is attributed to God. This "worship" is clearly calculated emotional and spiritual manipulation to a concerning degree.

*Fundie Fridays* has an excellent video on the psychological impact of worship services and how they are carefully orchestrated to overwhelm emotionally & physically. It's fascinating.

Mormons have a method for inducing this feeling called "Heart Sell." It's a feeling that's pretty hardwired into us as social creatures, and can be triggered with scary reliability. It's a really fascinating phenomenon... when it's not being used for nefarious purposes, like Hannah talked about here.

My sister has been doing Monat since its inception (years. she has the cadillac), and it has been one of the saddest things in the world to watch her change so much to the point where I just ABHOR all things Monat for its cult-like crap. She has done all the MLMs (she was on Rodan+Fields before Monat) - but there's something about this one that has absolutely brainwashed her in to a different person. She used to be progressive and all about science, and now she's anti-vax, thinks her essential oils and crystals and diet are going to keep her strong, and she refuses to wear a mask anywhere. A lot of the Monat girls are exactly the same way, as evidenced here in this video. Maybe they think their shampoo will cure them of all diseases. I joke, but it's really REALLY sad to watch, especially when it's someone you love. :(

The girl who says she wants to do it for the rest of her life - this doesn't even make sense because in 5 years time wouldn't you want to be moving up the ladder and starting to do project managing or some kind of other thing in the company? Literally all you can do is just sell a bunch of shampoo there's nowhere to go with it.

If it’s anything like how they “launched” in Spain (and probably Lithuania), they will have a pre launch before the launch. Meaning, the people who join will be “founders” and anyone who joins after, will be their down line. The kicker is, the products don’t launch at the same time. In Spain, one rep RANKED UP without SELLING ANY PRODUCT. She ranked up by RECRUITING!!! It’s all in her highlights and the audacity to say that she’s a business owner and did it through self determination is ludicrous

I went to a concert last week; vaccine cards were checked before entering the venue and we had to have a mask. During the show, a number of people around me did not have their mask on. I kept mine on the whole time. I wasn't entirely comfortable, but I did see some people being turned away that had unofficial looking cards or no mask, so.

This might ramble. Sorry in advance.
I used to be in Amway. And I wasn't a big fan of recruiting, personally, so I really tried selling the products. There's a few products that I honestly still wish I could get my hands on. And my goal was just to make pocket change every month. I didn't want to get rich, I just wanted to earn enough money to see a movie or buy a tank of gas off my "extra" income. And my upline was okay with that for the first few months. I didn't have a ton of fees (beyond buying products that I just enjoyed). But then he invited me to some massive amway meeting, and I am highly uncomfortable in church settings -which is exactly what this was. I never saw how what I was doing was unethical or immoral, and people online would flip out at me for suggesting they buy "my" products which would just make me defensive. I wasn't brainwashing anyone, I wasn't participating in a pyramid scheme. But I've been watching your videos for a few days now, and everything youre saying is accurate. My amway upline was subtly changing what he was telling me to manipulate me into feeling bad for not making more money. I was achieving exactly what I wanted - I was selling a couple products a month, buying things I liked, and had spending money that I didn't have previously. Why do I need to recruit anyone? So I "quit" (I just ghosted amway idk how to actually quit). And now I can see why people were upset at me - I was exactly moderate enough to entice people in to meet the dangerous people.

Sunk cost fallacy! Than you. I work in mental health and see this happen with clients too often. They will have a relationship that is harmful to them but be reluctant to set boundaries or cut ties because they're hoping to get back the money they loaned the person or some other sunk cost. We discuss it, but now I have a fancy term to call it :)

Unfortunately, the culture has been American-ised enough that these sort of things do 'work' (I sadly as an Australian in my late 20s went through a period of MLM-ing) however it's mostly a certain income class that'll benefit from it because you're right - they didn't factor in that the unemployment benefits work differently here and whilst not a liveable wage as such it can still support someone enough they don't need a side hustle.

    • @Cats_eattacos
      @Cats_eattacos 6 месяцев назад

Imo opinion toxic churches work a lot like mlms too, so it’s easy to get them connected with each other. In a toxic church, you’re guilted into paying/donating to the head of the church and told to tell everyone you know (or THREATEN with fear mongering) to join your church so that you get a higher social ranking in the church. My stepmom’s church worked like that, and I can still remember how much praise and crap she got for bring me with her every youth group. Obviously thats not all churches, but I would not be surprised if the poor people in mlms are also involved in things like that and think its “normal”

  • @highlander6964

I'm glad you brought up the religious aspect. I am a Christian, and it really does bother me when some of these MLM's use faith as a manipulation tool to recruit, or keep people involved in a business that is set up for over 99% of people to lose money, or struggle. I live my faith, and my friends know it, and I've had MLM 'boss babes' slide into my PM's telling me how God brought them to me, or they felt God was 'speaking to them' or they felt it their Christian duty to contact me as a sister of faith. It saddens me because when someone fails, they may question their faith if they're not trying hard enough or maybe they didn't 'trust in God' enough to be successful. I tell these 'Boss Babes of Faith' that if God truly was speaking to them of my desires, the Leafs would have won the Stanley cup years ago...lol Great videos, and thank you for your respect towards the issue of faith :)

But the only statement I have a different opinion on is about 'I'f the product work so well why would you have damage'. Well, I've used l'oreal Pro for years and I get damage because I use alot of hairspray every day to style my thin hair ☺ so there can be damage done with no fault to the product but due to other styling techniques. I've heard you mention a few times you don't know much about ingredients in hair and skin care. I was the same in my youth, there is a book called beauty bible by now retired Paula Bergoin, have a read if you can find an old copy or check her website, gives alot of science backed and dermalogical backed information. To comment on the Met Gala vs these events - yes the celebrity events "say" they have these tiered rules for the mass gatherings but are they actually enforcing them? My husband and I went to a concert last week that even though it was outside the venue said in an email prior to the event "proof of vaccination, covid test, or mask is required." We came prepared, yet we were never questioned by anyone upon entering or walking throughout the venue what our "status" was... I would safely assume the Met Gala / Emmys would be the same ... who's enforcing?
It sounds like I am disagreeing with you on these events - which I am not! I think it's very irresponsible for these companies to host these events and for the attendees to go with no thought to the city mandates! But just wanted to voice my thoughts on that.
Thanks for the content! Your voice is so soothing (which is weird to say, yes) and you present the content so well. I look forward to your additional videos this week! (I'm bummed I have watched all your videos and I won't be able to binge them!)

Yes that could absolutely be true about big events right now! I'm sure it's hard to police vaccination records for an event with thousands of people... I wonder if Monat was afraid that if they said that proof of vaccination/negative test would be required, that would deter people from coming and that's why they chose not to have that requirement? Thank you so much for watching and for your support!

No new people recruited means you'll loose the money for the tickets. I remember a lot of reps selling 5,6 and more tickets shortly before the next big convention because they couldnt recruit the 9 people and make them go with them.

As a Christian it’s so disgusting to me this “prosperity gospel” like Joel Olsteen uses this a lot and this is why he’s come under fire. The Bible never promises wealth and materialistic things. In fact it says we’ll be persecuted if anything. And it does say god will provide for our needs but like basic life sustaining needs and anything on top of that is a blessing from God but that is NOT what you should be seeking out of your relationship with God. You’re seeking a friendship, and closeness from God not personal wealth

Sometimes waving their hair around can let us see if they have extensions. They can stop doing that i.m.o. In most other haircare companies' ads, they don't always have to do that. Maybe sometimes for a product that is specifically for shine, but not for every product they make.

Okay last one. I have been to three Paul Mitchell Signature Gatherings held in Las Vegas every July. I worked at one of their beauty schools and one of their signature salons. No where at either business was faith brought up. Not even manifestation, obviously prayer, and the like. I am so glad you said that. A professional conference I went to was focused on education, of course a new product line was launched but we already kind of knew because they hinted in months prior, and parties. The last day is usually on a Sunday.. any kind of service was never offered. Now this was 2009, 10, and 11 so i’m not sure what they are up to now. I HIGHLY doubt they changed that considering they’ve been around for 41 years. The gathering has been around since 2004 but still…. you are totally correct. No professional corporate company would include Sunday services unless it was religious based.

I had a family member ask me in a nice way if I was selling products (like mlm) and I had a strong “Nooooo, not like that!” It does have a weird overlap even though they are two totally different things. I think Perfectly Posh makes it even fuzzier because if I just call it Posh then it can get even more confusing.

Do the folks in MLMs that are constantly saying “I’m not making a CEO richer…” do they realize there are thousands of other “corporate” jobs??? For instance, as a public servant, which I am, my work is making/keeping people safe. That is fulfilling. It makes me feel very good knowing I do my part everyday to make the community I serve safer. And I’m not making a CEO richer. Makes no sense why they make it seem like retail or anything for that matter that has a CEO, is the only kind of career choice available outside of MLMs.

re: new country launches. The current reps are able to recruit folks from the new country and add them to their current team. This benefits the current reps as that new Australian team member will build a team beneath them in that new market, and the new Australian rep gets to “learn” from their more experienced upline.
I’m not sure if reps who are higher up would have known that the Australian launch was coming, but they may have already started grooming folks to join their team once the launch was made official.
Because of the MLM structure, everyone needs to be a part of someone’s “team”, so I’m sure the Monat reps are jumping on the chance to bring a whole slew of new people to this “opportunity”.

    • @HannahAlonzo

I wonder about the same thing about mlms launching in a new country. It wouldn't be fair to the people in other countries that hear about a somewhat unknown mlm, but their are still too many reps in it that there are no new legs left and they have to have an up line. Then the mlm launches in a new country and people could join without having an up line. That wouldn't be fair. It also wouldn't be fair for the brand new country for the mlm to have every rep from the new country have to have an up line. That wouldn't be fair either. Those people wouldn't have a chance to get in the mlm when it was little and avoid the having to have an up line rule. Either way, both ways suck and are unfair. I feel like they wouldn't make new legs for the new country and that's why they add another country. So it's less saturated for the current reps. They can get more people and keep the others even longer. So I'd like to know if mlms make new legs for the new countries or do they just put someone that doesn't know of anyone to sign up with under a random person even though they're the first in their country to join that particular mlm. That would be a great thing to know 'cause if there are no new legs being made for a brand new country for a mlm, then people need to know that and they might not take the risk and join.

I'm Australian and got pitched recently (a year after you did this video) from a Monat rep - unsure if she is Aussie or OS however here's her pitch through DM
I noticed you watching my stories lately and then I remembered you live in Australia. Because of your location, (and the fact that I think you’d be perfect for this based on your social media knowledge), I have a super amazing, time-sensitive opportunity I would love to share with you here if that sounds alright to you
What's hilarious is that it's EXACTLY my social media knowledge that I found YOU and told her no please do not contact me again. Please forgive me, I did throw in after my no thank you your Monat deep dive video ! I will say this that my intention was mostly as a way to stop this lady from further harassing me (I am not expecting her to watch it - I was using it as a way to say to her to stay away from me I am not interested.)

  • @dqverify6797
    @dqverify6797 2 года назад +4

“I want every person I meet to be positively impacted by me.” Seems that lady didn’t feel like there was enough God at the convention, so she wanted to make sure to slip her own God Complex in there, too.
(I mean, come on. How messianic do you have to see yourself being, that you picture yourself running around making everyone’s lives so much better, making an *impact* on them (instead of just, you know, being positive yourself and *trying* to spread cheer etc.) whether they like it or not? Like the Blue Fairy tapping cursed and frozen children and setting them free again? You don’t get to decide what kind of impact you leave on others, and the fact that you describe your goal as “want[ing] every single person I meet to be positively impacted by me,” instead of the non-narcissistic way, which would be more like, “I want to try to spread positivity wherever I go.” She’s not dictating her own behavior, she is attempting to control others. You will be positively impacted by me, or I will cut off your ear and feed it to you. Now shit up and think about how much better your life is thanks to me.”
Sheesh. I’m sure she didn’t mean it to sound that way, but narcissists never realize how self-absorbed they sound, or how abnormally they express the things they believe they are supposed to feel (but don’t).

What really baffles me, is the cult like devotion to MLM's. The efforts that the Huns in these MLM's go to to show their devotion to the company. The effort they put in to show that their MLM company pays them etc
I've had several jobs over the years. And not once was I going around bragging that Starbucks paid me for example. And I never felt the need to go through all these mental gymnastics to explain why I work for the companies I work for & or to go the extra mile to convince people how much I love the companies I work for.
It just seems cringy to me. And seems to only be a thing when working an MLM
The other thing I find fascinating. Is that these Huns practically throw $$ at these MLM companies to attend seminars/conventions etc. Throw $$ at them to buy their merch etc. And to boot, they do all these meetings/zooms/social media live traing things. And are NOT even getting compensated for their time 🤦‍♀️
In any job I've had. If there was any company specific trainings (New product releases, updates on policies & procedures etc), I got PAID to attend these meetings.
When my dad was asked to go to a big industry training for a company he worked for,, he & his co-workers were flown out to the training, put up in a hotel & given a daily meal stipend. And I think also paid to attend the training too.
And yet these Huns all think it's normal to not only not get properly compensated for their time for trainings/seminars/conventions. They flock to PAY to do these things

I'm a Christian and grew up going to the Church Of Christ churches and the God stuff that mlms like to use is odd. Even if the facts say that the reps are losing or they're bringing in tons of people in to be at the ranks that only make money for the up line, they still think that if God says it's fine, then the facts aren't true. There's so such thing as no losers in a mlm. There's not enough money to funnel down to the lower ranks where the majority of a mlm's reps are at. Plus those ranks have to be filled by someone. So no one can be a rep and make a ton of money in a mlm without bringing in people to lose, break even, or not make as much as they would at a 40 hour week, $8 an hour minimum wage job.
