If you invest 1000.00 into your allocation, does Fidelity process the buys into each position by your set weight or do you have to do that on your own?

First, your videos are awesome and I have subscribed. You may have answered this question in the video, but I missed it. Love your channel and like your other videos, I found this very interesting and informative (lots of hard work-thank you). Would you care to comment on volatility/risk of your portfolio vs and ETF? Specifically, I would like to hear your thoughts about the impact of one of your 19 stocks tanking badly compared to one of the 102 stocks in the SCHD ETF tanking badly (any etf). I guess what I am saying is from a statistical point of view, your portfolio is more vulnerable and a single stock behaving poorly could cause you a decent amount of pain.
GREAT QUESTION DAVE! I am always open to feedback on my investing strategy. I think you are spot on that a Dividend ETF is less risky. That being said, IF I get more value (i.e. Dividends/Dividend Growth) out of individual stocks AND I am willing to monitor my portfolio more than I would need to with a dividend ETF or index funds, then I am willing to take a little more risk. Additionally, I don't care at all about my stock prices UNLESS they are indicative of long-term fundamental changes in the business. IF my stock price dips, it doesn't matter to me. AWESOME! Thank you so much for joining the Average Joe Investor community! I am not able to necessarily make a specific recommendation, but here are some things to consider: Are you trying to keep it simple and set it and forget it? IF YES< something like the S*P 500 and Total Stock Market might be an EXCELLENT fit. Are you trying to maximize cash flow RIGHT NOW? Something like QYLD, NUSI, SCHD and quality individual dividend stocks might be a GREAT FIT. I hope that helps point you in the right direction. Please let me know going forward what investing topics you want to learn more about as well as any feedback/questions you have!

After reading / listening to the Bogelhead's philosphy as a new investor, here I am thinking that you "can't beat the market". Thanks for this new perspective.
HI SAMMY! =) I just want to clarify here that my goal is not necessarily to BEAT THE MARKET but to generate cash flow that will continue to increase over time. the fact that I have a higher balance potentially vs. investing in the S&P 500 or a different index fund is just gravy. =) EVEN IF I have a lower balance than an index fund investment doesn't change my investing philosophy. Hope that makes sense. THANK YOU for watching Sammy and for leaving your $0.02 in the comments! 😎👍🏻
Hi I'm subscribed, I would like to know about investment prioritization, Roth Ira vs investing directly on ETF's, should I maximize my roth IRA before I invest on ETFs?
GREAT QUESTION! It definitely depends on your goals! Are you looking to retire early and live off of this income? Perhaps you love your job and just want to save a lot for retirement. GREAT QUESTION MATTHEW! It depends on your brokerage elections. For example, in Fidelity in my settings, I have the option to have my dividends reinvested or deposited into my cash account. What do you think about Consumer Discretionary Stocks? After 2020 market crash, they have recovered faster than S&P 500 and continue to outperform the market in 2021 so far.
I think they are an important component of any dividend portfolio. Every portfolio needs Consumer Discretionary along with the other sectors of the economy. In my own portfolio I have Genuine Parts (GPC) and McDonalds (MCD) from this sector of the economy. THANK YOU for watching and for leaving your $0.02 in the comments! 😎👍🏻
Really appreciate all your hard work putting this together, and I love seeing all the data played out like this. The only flaw I see in this analysis is that you have the power of hindsight on the stocks in your portfolio. So what I mean is, all of your 19 dividend stocks have a known history of performing well and increasing dividends, so you're using current knowledge of stocks that are have all been stable solid companies for the last decade. Versus the price history of an ETF, which have most likely had to cycle in and out winners and losers as those companies change and develop. So basically, your portfolio has a marked advantage over the price history of the ETFs. Still, I really enjoyed this video and I hope you keep it up!
THANK YOU for that feedback! I don't pretend to know EVERYTHING about investing and always welcome feedback on my content. =) I agree that from a price history standpoint, I have the benefit of hindsight but I can honestly tell you I didn't pick a single stock in my portfolio based on any type of price history. When I pick stocks I have specific dividend criteria I look at. I actually look forward to expanding on this topic in my next Friday video. =) Hope that helps and maybe we can continue this dialogue after I post my dividend criteria in one of next week's videos. =) THANK YOU for watching siaosanna and for leaving your $0.02 in the comments! 😎👍🏻

HI ANA! Thanks for weighing in with a question! CSWC is a BDC or Business Development Company that focuses on lending money to small and mid size companies. Their dividend yield currently is 7.33% and they had a pretty significant dividend cut in 2020 but have bounced back somewhat. I don't stack up on BDC's because I like to have balance in my portfolio so I much prefer ARCC which I won in my current portfolio. Hope that helps! GREAT QUESTION RON! I did not account for taxes in my model, but not because of oversight but just because it’s very difficult to model that with all the variables. IF your metrics to choose stocks TODAY include past performance (growth) - as it should - , it is pretty obvious that you are going to beat every ETF retrospectively. The thing is to know IF your metrics TODAY are sufficient to identify FUTURE performance. Your real test will be done in the end of the next 10 years (at the end of 2031)
GREAT POINT LEONARDO. I do think that the metrics i use are sufficient but I will not KNOW until 2031 or "The Future" is known. THANK YOU for watching and for leaving your $0.02 in the comments! 😎👍🏻
subscribed. Looks like SCHD has a good outcome for a investor idiot like me to pile 50 grand into and let it rollover and do your method as a side hustle with a moderate amount. I am cash heavy and over 50 and I can see a path to passive income faster under this method with less downside risk. Maybe LOL
HI BRYAN! I Agree SCHD performed the best! =) I couldn't make a formal recommendation of course since I am not licensed to do so AND I do not know ALL of the details of your financial situation. That being said, one of the things I LOVE about dividend stock investing is how passive it is. I have to invest very little time to manage my portfolio of 20 dividend stocks. IF you held just the SCHD dividend ETF, you would hardly need to invest any time at all. THANK YOU for watching Bryan and for leaving your $0.02 in the comments! 😎👍🏻

@@AverageJoeInvestor Good evening, do you cover Crypto currency?
Looking very forward for that next video! and THANK YOU for this one.
You bet Bill! THANK YOU for watching and for leaving your $0.02 in the comments! 😎👍🏻
Joe,
Thanks for your reply regarding MFC as I really appreciate it. Regarding VLO, I have less invested in it then you do. I will let my investment stand and just not purchase anymore. Once again thank you and take care!
You're welcome Doug. THANK YOU for being a faithful subscriber! =)
Commenting for the algorithm. Really appreciate the detail and level of effort put into these videos. Great work!
Much appreciated! THANK YOU for that feedback! =)
Wish I had this advice 20 years ago!
I subscribed, I am new to stocks investing , would like to start small perhaps from HSA account balance in fidelity , can you please recommend any of your favorite dividend or growth portfolios
Newer investor here. Say you are putting $200 a week into your portfolio, are you spreading that out across all 19 every week, or how do you allocate your funds with so many possibilities? I heard you say you don't do this in your own portfolio. How do you determine where your money goes? Do you have a video on this yet? Thanks... Love the channel !
GREAT QUESTION and I do NOT have a video on this yet but I will cover it in my video next Friday about dissecting my portfolio. =) THANK YOU for watching and for leaving your $0.02 in the comments! 😎👍🏻
Subscribed. What do you think about FNILX?
AWESOME JUEWELLE! Thank you so much for joining the Average Joe Investor community! The Fidelity ZERO Large Cap Index Fund FNILX is a great index fund for long-term investors that mimics the S&P 500 with no expense ratios. Please let me know going forward what investing topics you want to learn more about as well as any feedback/questions you have!
Keep up the good work Joe 💪
Appreciate it Phil! THANK YOU for watching and for leaving your $0.02 in the comments! 😎👍🏻
Qyld and ryld thoughts? Been in my portfolio for almost a year... I like them. ;)
Covered Call ETF's are an interesting topic to cover as they provide cash flow from the NASDAQ and Russell 2000 but at the same time limit growth based on the metrics/strategy of the ETF. A topic worth covering in the near future! THANK YOU for watching and for leaving your $0.02 in the comments! 😎👍🏻
You can also own ETFs in your retirement account. So to invest in a retirement account versus a brokerage account will depend a lot on when you need the money and what your goals are. Hope that helps! THANK YOU FOR WATCHING AND FOR LEAVING YOUR $0.02 IN THE COMMENTS! 👍🏻😎
@@AverageJoeInvestor thank you, can you make a video about investment prioritization? I would like to retire in my mid 50's if possible, but I just started a roth ira in december and I'm in my mid 30s.

This is the video I was looking for :) Great stuff! 🚀🙏
Very cool indeed
Nice video! Just curious, when comparing your portfolio to ETFs do you reinvest the ETF's dividend too?
GREAT QUESTION! Yes I do. I assume reinvesting dividends to ensure an apples-2-apples comparison. =) THANK YOU for watching rangwood and for leaving your $0.02 in the comments! 😎👍🏻
@@AverageJoeInvestor Well thank you for the reply! Liked and subscribed!
Hi Joe,
Looking forward to your detailed explanation of the 19 dividend stocks in your portfolio next week. Please tell me why you sold Manulife Financial (MFC)? Thank you and the best of luck to you in becoming a Registered Investment Advisor. You will be GREAT at it as you are the best! Take care and God bless.
Honestly Doug, I think it may have been oversight. I actually plan on buying it back AND I am strongly considering selling Valero (VLO) due to their Q4 results and negative FCF that is persisting. More on that soon!

Could you give me an alternative for the 2 L.P. in your portfolio? EMN or AEP? Thanks
HI AIDA! EMN is an OK play but their dividend yield is only 2.42%. AEP has negative free cash flow. Given this information I cannot recommend either dividend stock nor do I own them myself. I would need to do additional research before giving any additional recommendations. THANK YOU for watching Aida and for leaving your $0.02 in the comments! 😎👍🏻

Can you show your portfolio's 10 yr historic performance with a $10,000 initial investment, reinvesting dividends but with no other reinvestment so we can compare to other investment's performance during that time?
GREAT IDEA STEVEN! I've added that to the video ideas list! THANK YOU for watching and for leaving your $0.02 in the comments! 😎👍🏻
I just found your channel! I love it! I’m interested in dividend ETFs and dividend stocks. Idk if you could maybe make shorter videos? I find that I have to stop in the middle of the video to do something. Thanks
THANK YOU for that feedback! I actually THINK when I am filming that the videos are closer to 10 minutes and then they END UP being CRAZY LONG. So Sorry! I will try to work on that! THANK YOU for watching Jay and for leaving your $0.02 in the comments! 😎👍🏻
@@AverageJoeInvestor I appreciate you cover investments in detail, and pass on your knowledge. I don't mind hearing you for longer. You started me on Fidelity investing. Thank you!
Excellent video - straightforward and makes sense. I know the portfolio is only part of your overall investing strategy. Do you also have any separate growth portfolio?
HI ALAN! Yes, I also have a growth portfolio in my Roth IRA and my 401k has a large cap growth fund with the small cap as well. THANK YOU for watching and for leaving your $0.02 in the comments! 😎👍🏻
How do you decide when/if to sell a stock from your portfolio? What do you do with the money from a sale?
GREAT QUESTION DREW! If a stock breaks through my investing criteria then I sell it. Sometimes it can be difficult to sell but I see it as BETTER to avoid the dividend cut then hold out due to my pride. I’m new to investing does the dividends automatically get reinvested into the stocks, or do you have to add them to the stocks. How does it work?
GREAT QUESTION MATTHEW! It depends on your brokerage elections. For example, in Fidelity in my settings, I have the option to have my dividends reinvested or deposited into my cash account. I can choose for each individual security in my portfolio. IF you choose reinvestment, Fidelity will AUTOMATICALLY reinvest the dividends on my behalf. Very simple and easy. Hope that answers your question! THANK YOU for watching Matthew and for leaving your $0.02 in the comments! 😎👍🏻
Although I am new I STRONGLY ECHO ANY REQUESTS for you to share your portfolio spreadsheet link. I could really use this informative spreadsheet template. Thanks so much! Sam

I am missing something. Are you not counting growth? I show that 78k with a growth rate of 7% without dividends would be 158k in 10 years.
Sorry for the confusion Adam. The $78K was a holdover amount from my ACTUAL Portfolio whereas the assumptions in this video were that we were starting from $0.00. Sorry about that! THANK YOU for watching and leaving a comment! =)
How can I email or talk to u privately?
HI AKINA! You are welcome to send me an email to averagejoeonmoney@gmail.com. Please no though that I am not licensed to provide financial advice so I couldn’t really give advice specific to your situation. That being said, my financial planning firm is in the process of launching in the next two months and I would love to have a comprehensive discussion with you at that time if you feel it would be a great fit. Here is the link to stay updated on the launch of my firm: www.one11sandbox.com/avgjoe/
Ok thank you I appreciate the transparency, sending an email now.
If I do this pie with M1 financie with 200$ to start and 50$ every Monday, do they charge any fee for Maintenance ??, and is it a good Idea for a beginner like me ??
GREAT QUESTION LUIS! M1 Finance does not charge any costs for maintenance and is a GREAT PLATFORM! Whether investing in a dividend stock portfolio is a good idea or not depends on your unique situation. I cannot really provide specific guidance to your situation though in approx. 2 months I will be licensed with my financial planning firm to provide financial advice. THANK YOU for watching Luis and for leaving your $0.02 in the comments! 😎👍🏻
How about when you compare your portfolio to the ARK ETFs?
Subscribe!!!
AWESOME! Thank you so much for joining the Average Joe Investor community! I would say that comparing ARK ETF's to Dividend Stocks is Apples to Oranges. Additionally, it's tough to compare a long-term investment like dividend stocks with ETF's that are so new. I do plan on covering ARK ETF's in more detail soon. =) Please let me know going forward what investing topics you want to learn more about as well as any feedback/questions you have!
0.75% expense ratio for the one ark fund I looked at. No thanks. Hard pass. Gimmick band wagon rolling thru
Well done sir
THANK YOU for that feedback DeWayne! I appreciate it!
No ATT? I wonder why???
Long story short, their Dividend Growth Rate (DGR) is just too low and I prefer to own dividend stocks that have a solid yield but ALSO can grow their dividend by an amount exceeding the long-term inflation rate. Hope that helps! THANK YOU for watching Leroy and for leaving your $0.02 in the comments! 😎👍🏻
Lol hey man thanks for replying lol I’m gone subscribe now... I wasn’t expecting an answer
I am so looking forward to the next video - how did you pick the companies and how do you determine the allocation percentage in the portfolio. Also do you rebalance and when? Keep it up!
Good questions! I will cover it ALL in the next video! THANK YOU for watching and for leaving your $0.02 in the comments! 😎👍🏻
Thumbs up joe.
THANK YOU for that feedback -- I appreciate it! =)
Thank you for your analysis. What do you think about CSWC
, Capital Southwest?
THANK YOU for watching Ana and for leaving your $0.02 in the comments! 😎👍🏻
what are the dividend ETF's here you compared with?
Did you account for the impact of taxes on the dividends each year?
Might be in his Roth IRA since dividends are considered taxable income
GREAT QUESTION RON! I did not account for taxes in my model, but not because of oversight but just because it’s very difficult to model that with all the variables. I have an upcoming video where I talk about dividends and taxes, but even though taxes will have an impact it would not have changed the results. Hope that helps! Thank you for watching and leaving your two cents in the comments! 👍🏻😎

Can you do video on the best mlps to invest in.
