I think Dylan's table talk game is so strong that it might make more sense to reveal your identity than to hide it. Especially for influencing players who were in purple's position who can help Dylan with a favour at critical points in the game. Typing is just one extra barrier for both the person explaining and one extra barrier for the person receiving the message. It's pretty obvious that voice chat is just easier and that table talk is critical. Also, I think when it comes to blocking / stealing from black vs. blue, it's a bit of a dilemma. On one hand black is ahead but on the other hand blue is the main win condition competitor. I would prefer taking the risk of targeting blue but it's a tough call. GG though, tough luck at the end with blue rolling the best combination possible for him.
I disagree with the final wheat over ore. If you'd done the ore, you only need one wheat tile to roll and one ore tile to roll and you'd have the city. I know you never got the chance for it to orbit back, but still, the wheat was just weird, as it gave you the worst chance to have an actionable hand next turn.
His win condition was really based on the last few dice rolls being favourable. Unfortunately for Dylan, blue rolled 8 sheep (with sheep port) in the last orbit and also stole 1 additional card using a knight before rolling a 3 for a wheat. He was at 11 cards and didn't get 7ed out. I think it made no difference what resource he took at that point as there is a good argument for wheat or for ore.
An OWS game with 17pp? I'd have taken 4611 in a heartbeat, going to the wheat port. I think an OWS game with a single wood or brick tile is not all that bad. Expanding to a third city without ANY wood or brick takes a long ass time and having at least one road resource cuts it in half, more than half actually since there is always a chance of a timely wood-brick trade.
He always forces OWS and doesn't consider wood or brick except when Dandy is coaching him. Your pick would have been amazing. The starting wood would have been awesome for him only needing to find that brick trade. I get the 5/10 helped him get his first city faster but I firmly believe with the wheat port play and a nice wood number he has a chance for a cheeky double play mid game. Left side of the board is barren so road network would have been easy.
Yep. Blue did same I guess but at least they had sheep port. I love this guy's content but man it gets stale every game the same forcing bad OWS setups.
Tough at beginning; I think the 5 10 was definitely the better pick. I honestly was surprised you didn't try to point your road right and block blue from getting the extra sheep. Maybe you would've had more trouble communicating a deal without a mic, I would've even agreed to never settle the 10 8 the whole game if I had to.
Only thing I disagree with is your rob then trading your extra brick with blue 14 mins in. Made it easier for him to do that final road settle and you were one ahead of him in the army race at that point, needing to YOP for the settle for a chance of winning anyway. So if you need to play a knight you can't YOP anyway, giving black+blue another turn to try to win. With 4 VPs and no monos played it was also very likely blue had one. Not trading them a crucial resource and stealing one of theirs seemed pretty important in that situation. Plus if they have enough knights to overtake you for army they can't have enough VPs to win without that settle.
@12:20 I don't think that I agree with the wood port play by black. The 6,4,11 is just too good not to take. Double wheat/ore and great production with a 3:1 port beats the wood port here. I can see that they wanted to do that to even out their wood/brick ratio, but they need to get another city, so taking the production spot is just better in my opinion. After they city, they need just a single 10 to close the game, so the additional bricks are pretty much useless anyways. Taking 6,4,11 also prevents any crazy road play by purple once they settle the 6,4,11. I would only go wood port in this situation if I don't have access to a 3:1 to process the excess wood.
Don't forget to change the name each time you show it in a video Man that sucks. They should target the player who is making the smartest moves in the game / in the lead in the game. (Which of course, is different each game.)
they do in the top spots. new or more casual players dont really care. also he should just upload the tournament games after the tournament is fully over. makes it easier.
have you thought about using a voice changer? because i think you bot being able to talk at all does take away from the game a bit. also i think it would make for funny content 😂
Or just don't do these silly kindergarten games in tournaments. It's really frowned upon. As soon as you reach the semi-finals and mostly play with good players, the reputation blocking isn't an issue anymore (as could be seens later on in the day finals when he was actually blocked too little for his powerful setup).
(Haven’t watched the video yet so if this comes up sorry) but could you try this with a voice changer? See if you could still be able to use your strong table talking but not get noticed for it
I was purple, crazy how I started playing Catan (I used to only be a C&K player and only with family) because of you and now I got into a tourney match with you.
its a tournament so then everyone would know it's him even if we was able to create a new account for the next round people would be like ohhh new account I heard dylighted is playing this tournament
It's easy to say in hindsight, but I think the idea was that it seemed like black had a VP, Dylan had 2 and blue had 2. If that was the case, there wouldn't be any more VPs in the deck so the only way to win was to get a city or settle. Turns out black didn't have a VP, but just held a dev card forever.
how long before people realize that vps actually make the game worse ? I don't think blue played better than others. He only pulled the right cards and the conclusion of the game was trash.
if black were louder about how they don't have a vp maybe blue would have gotten more attention

Agreed, because any wheat roll gives him two anyway, as does any ore roll, but he needs 3 of them.

doesnt matter either way. but i agree, blue took it before it mattered though
@@matthewcheung5136 What is the good argument for wheat?
@@DrOmegaBattleSphere Dylan explained why as he took it. Better explanation than I can give.
they knew it was you after the 10 hour turns
at 15:06 when you use the YoP you want to set up the rolls for a city, so wood + ore is the pick IMO
If you do a realistic voice changer, you can use vc which is much less suspicious on your end
Unexpected ending! I like when opponents like to trade

For real literally makes the same mistake over and over again
Before watching the video I'm going to assume he takes some lower producing spots to force OWS.
Yep. Blue did same I guess but at least they had sheep port. I love this guy's content but man it gets stale every game the same forcing bad OWS setups.

my guess is that he has played the entire tournament and is now uploading them on a managed schedule while he plays more games for future YT content
One of the reasons why blue wasn't blocked/stolen from so often was exactly that. Their 2nd settlement showed that they are a less-experienced player.
have you thought about using a voice changer? because i think you bot being able to talk at all does take away from the game a bit. also i think it would make for funny content 😂
problem is a voice changer might be more sus than just not talking.
not sure how many catan youtuber play colonist tournaments.

I think the 6/4/3 was probably the wrong first pick. Less productive and flexible than the 5/9/10.

You can just write that your microphone is broken and avoid the sus
You should reveal yourself at the end of the game, get their reactions
