There's something so surreal about seeing 80s-90s vehicles and Amtrak equipment on 8mm film. If the FP45s weren't painted with the Superfleet lettering, you could easily mistake clips from this as being from an early 70s excursion. It's like an alternate timeline where she was restored much earlier. Really cool footage.
4:52 Interestingly, if this scene of the Southwest Chief at Pasadena, CA is on December 27, 1991 this means the train left Chicago, IL on Christmas Day 1991 as it normally takes 2 days get from there to here! 🎄
Thank you Irv Hirsch and Radio Roger for this video. A check of my conductor book reveals that I was the conductor on Amtrak Train 3 with engines ATSF 5140 and AMTK 292 shown at the beginning of the video. I protected that train from Albuquerque to Kingman...David Wiegand
