Caelum guess you have been around many 14 year old girls? The the 2nd game she has lost so baby fat in the face which gives off the appearance of a older girl.
LieselLee I have cheeks kind of like Ellie’s in the first game, and I’m 23. 🧐 People often think I look like a teenager though lol. But I wouldn’t say she lost baby fat, she just lost her entire facial structure from the first game.
Ellie in 1st game looks more lovable, i think it's one of the factor that made fans felt so emotionally connected like she's our real daughter, kinda makes you feel you need to protect her at all cost
Colby Sullivan although i agree that the first one is much cuter, imo its a bit too cartoony. The second one is much more proportional and realistic. Joel’s face got much more realistic and more emotional too on the second one and i love it. The first game was a bit robotic and in some cases, looks very robotic
Jake Johnson No it doesn’t, and Ellie only looks less realistic in the first game because of the textures. All they had to do was update those, not make her look like a different person altogether.
I prefer "The Last of Us Remastered" version! Joel doesn't even look like a warrior in the new version, he looks just like a common 50 years old dude. Ellie looks like a plastic doll.
I wouldn't call Joel a warrior, but in The Last of Us (1), he certainly wasn't a dude you'd want to upset. He was fierce, dangerous and at times scary. He'd had a tough life before the outbreak, and his life had only gotten tougher after the outbreak and it showed. In the second game, all of that seems to be gone. He really is just a common 50-year-old. Sure, he's a warm and passionate man (as he also was in the first game), but all the rest that made his character so gripping, is just gone. They gave that fierce drive to Ellie instead... whilst also removing everything else that made Ellie special. They messed up their characters, is what they did and it's a shame. This could've been yet another all-time great.
@Wackaz - Arthur Wacker You're just upset the game didn't go the way you wanted, so you're just attacking everything at this point. I bet if the game went the way you wanted, you would be praising the "detailed improvement of the character models" now. Pfffttttt

1:52 Not trying to extend the hate of tlou2, but ellie geniunely has a better face model in the original. Young Ellie just looks so naive and helpless in the sequel.
@Eva From Wall-E Even though its not a big deal, I still do prefer how she looked in the first game. Its the eyes that maker her look different. It's like, I don't know who that is
TLOU1 is infinitely better. The color grading, the expressions on their faces, the music, even the surgery room looks so much more fitting for the world in the first game. The worst part is how different Ellie looks.
Tlou1 is 100%better than 2 but it is 8 years old. And it still looks better than most games today. But of course tlou2 being new it has much better graphics and gameplay.
Ya but their graphic fidelity during cutscene in Pt1 is good back in that time but since the 2nd game uses higher poly assets + facial capture you can tell the facial expressions in the 2nd are far more expressive than the 1st without any facial capture (all hand-made animation).
I think they scanned her adult actress' face onto the model in order to keep her looking similar to adult Ellie in the rest of the game. It looks weird because that's literally an adult's face, not that of the 14 y/o she's meant to be. They had more creative freedom with how she looks in the original because of the technical limitations and that Ellie was going to be 14 for the entirety of the game, so they leant into a more childish appearance.
ND decided to change Ellie's face after the debut trailer and accidently her face looked like young Ellen Page in the retail version. Ellen accused them for ripped off her likeness without her consent. In Part 2 I think ND has to remodel Ellie to look different from an adult Ellen Page or they will be sued.

I preferred the old Ellie face model... The new one looks older than the old model ... the new 14 years old Ellie looks older than her when she was 18/19... Just unfitting.. Edit: I understand the realism argument... about Beauty during a apocalypse... but ... We don’t expect this game to be 100% realistic... we just want it Entertaining... people don’t buy a game for how close it is to reality... sometimes the things that are unusual compared to our own world is what we look in games for... a new world, different from reality that we can dive in:)
Do people really pathetically use that as an argument? What the heck does beauty have to do with realism? You can't have someone who looks attractive be real? Are you out of your actual mind? do you know how many actual gorgeous people are in the world without even having to try? Are people actually serious?! there are plenty of people who in my opinion look better than me but guess what I am not offended by their mere existence and I am certainly not going to be by gosh damn video game character, why are people like this? Just Stop having these pathetic arguments to try and justify people putting agendas inside of games and de-beautifying female characters because they just have to, because them looking even mildly attractive is offensive to someone, it's just dumb! And I wouldn't even consider a Ellie some type of freaking beauty queen she was a realistic girl who also happened to be a badass in the making, but of course the unneeded sequel just had to give her no development and just turn her into a straight-up tomboy freaking Millennial Stoner person with no real personality or likeability who has actually lost some of her IQ points as well, it sucks badly! I am sorry for ranting so long but I really liked Ellie and the people who just decided to use her character and her and Joel's fanbase for this BS suck.
Tbh I didn't even realise that Ellie was the same age at the start of part 2 as she was at the end of part 1, she looked so different that I had just persumed we had gone like a year into the future or something.
I see a big difference. In earlier gens when it came to these kinds of games you can tell the developers opted to give characters a more definitive facial expression whereas now thanks to updated graphics they opted to diversify their facial movements. In the original Joel had a much more stern look with a straight face and Ellie’s facial movements were more confined to her eyes and lips. In Part 2 however both have a major update in subtle facial ticks. Ellie’s cheeks are a lot smaller and Joel’s look is more contempt than stern.
I’m not sure if I’m in the minority, but I liked Ellie’s face better in Last of Us 1. She actually looks less cartoonish and more real. I’m also not too much of a fan of her grown up face. I liked her overall, but it’s as if she’s lost some of that distinctive ‘cheeky’ (but cute) quality...
Joel looks more realistic now, but also softer. So does Tommy. In the original, both Miller brothers had sharper, more predatory features. Their default expression looked angry. It gave off this feel that these are people hardened by 20 years of survival experience, who have both done horrible things to survive. In the second game, however, they both look kinda sad by default. Although their faces are more realistic, it doesn't feel like these are the same two people.
At 1:51 on the left, it looks like they just got 19 year old Ellie’s face and put it on 14 year old Ellie’s body, I think that’s why it looks very jarring and weird
Every character in the 2nd looks like trash compare to the 1st one, by going the hyper realistic route they took away the more gentle look of the main characters especially Ellie, wth did they do to her.
That's because they are using windows 10 or new ios version, thats why they make it more different, on 2013 or 2014, they're still using windows 8 or whatever ios it is.
I always had the feeling they changed her face a bit to match Ashley Johnson's face a bit more. Probably makes mocap a lot more easier if the character has the same facial features as his mocap counterpart. At least I got that impression. I think you can see more resemblance than in the first game.
Joel and Ellie look way more stylised in the first game, i get ND wanted them to look realistic in the second game but they ended up looking like different people to me
They destroyed Joel and ellies personality and survivability in tlou2, destroyed joels body in tlou2, destroyed ellies face in tlou2, and gave Abby some of the largest arms I've seen on any human.
In a different dimension, in one of our millions of parallel dimensions, a near perfect version of this game exists. Guess we got that bad one. In another dimension somewhere else, the first game sucked... and the second one blew people’s minds.
Jenny What Then you wouldn’t be the best person to give a raise considering the new Ellie design looked like they just cut off her adult face and screwed it on her flashback design.
Jenny What FFS, she does not in ANY way look like an anime character, not at all. The only reason people like you say this is because you’re trying to make excuses for the second game instead of just accepting that it’s a pile of garbage. The ONLY reason she looks less realistic in the original game is because of the textures. But her facial structure is certainly realistic looking.
Eva From Wall-E No, she does not look like a ten year old or an anime character in the first game. And she’s only more realistic looking in the second game because of the updated textures. That’s all they had to change. They did not need to make her look ugly or like an entirely different person.

If it can't be done easily, don't do it. I don't necessarily agree with the ideology, but as people have pointed out, it also would be jarring to have a stylised young Ellie among these other more photorealistic models. That's not even covering whether or they would've had to remake the model from scratch to run with the new tech, especially if the model details and polygon count didn't match the expected level of quality in 2020.

That girl suddenly became ugly
The eyes really mess it up.
PHAHAHAH lmaooo it's true tho
why the fuck did they mess her up
It's the eyes, her eyes are rotated too much
TLOU Elli: perfect eyes size and looks like a child
TLOU2 Elli: Snap snap your eyes are having a stroke and you’re seventy year old grandma
In TLOU Ellie looked like a 10 years old girl, in TLOU2 she looks like a 14 years old girl.
@@justa6528 no she doesn't
my eyes are like that......? im 14
She looks fake
Ellie looked better in TLoU1 but Joel looks fantastic in TLoU2

I prefer "The Last of Us Remastered" version! Joel doesn't even look like a warrior in the new version, he looks just like a common 50 years old dude. Ellie looks like a plastic doll.
me too...
Maybe because Joel is not a warrior but a common 50 years old dude?
Imo i like the part 2 one better except for the close up shot at the end
@@ethanfrederiksen4327 Buuuuuuut it isn't. LMAO.

1:47 -
Right side : Joel's face lights up with optimism.
Left side : Absolute depression.
I’m annoyed With how inconsistent they look, from clothing to Joel suddenly having grey beard
Overall, Joel looks older in TLoU2 ,and specifically in that flashback.
He should not look old in the car flashback
Joel always had a grey beard. He's like 50 in the first game.
I think they're using the ps3 version for comparison because in the remastered, Joel has the blue shirt and a few more grey hairs.
@Wackaz - Arthur Wacker You're just upset the game didn't go the way you wanted, so you're just attacking everything at this point. I bet if the game went the way you wanted, you would be praising the "detailed improvement of the character models" now. Pfffttttt

The worst part is how different Ellie looks.
not true actually
Tlou1 is 100%better than 2 but it is 8 years old. And it still looks better than most games today. But of course tlou2 being new it has much better graphics and gameplay.
@@darlingjo7492 her face just looks better in that scene, not much more to it

Yap
That cause their not realistic looking compared to part 2
Ya but their graphic fidelity during cutscene in Pt1 is good back in that time but since the 2nd game uses higher poly assets + facial capture you can tell the facial expressions in the 2nd are far more expressive than the 1st without any facial capture (all hand-made animation).

She didn’t even look like a 14 year old
They made her eyes a lot bigger too, makes it look off
Yeah man she looks like Sid from Ice Age now wth?
Her nose is bigger too
I think they scanned her adult actress' face onto the model in order to keep her looking similar to adult Ellie in the rest of the game. It looks weird because that's literally an adult's face, not that of the 14 y/o she's meant to be.
They had more creative freedom with how she looks in the original because of the technical limitations and that Ellie was going to be 14 for the entirety of the game, so they leant into a more childish appearance.
How did the Doctor's gown color change from green to blue? Is it that hard to keep the detail consistent?
I think is for stronger atomsphere porposes, hospital identical with white and blue color
If they wanted to be consistent, they would have just ripped game footage. It's more like a remake.
I don't understand why people being bothered by such small details
The doctor being an old black guy in the first game makes it even less consistent.

In Part 2 I think ND has to remodel Ellie to look different from an adult Ellen Page or they will be sued.
As long as she is still played by Ashley Johnson, that's fine by me
@Critico Tingka what is the correlation about being lesbian and a face

It looks that on their way off the hospital, Joel and Ellie stayed long enough to make a facial surgery.
I like young Ellie of tlou1 more than the tlou2 one.

Her personality and her face are downgraded in that sequel.
