Boris Johnson blames coronavirus test shortages on “colossal spike in demand” - BBC News

  • There's more evidence of the severe problems being faced by people who need a test for coronavirus and of thousands of results being delayed.
    The prime minister Boris Johnson blamed the shortage on what he called a “colossal spike” in demand, with the re-opening of schools being the prime cause.
    Boris Johnson's critics say it's also the case that the government has failed to deliver on its promises. Mr Johnson told MPs that everything possible was being done and that he was determined to avoid another lockdown which he said would be “disastrous for the economy”.
    Meanwhile health officials in the north-west of England have warned that the coronavirus testing system there is at breaking point.
    The demand is so great that some hospitals in Bolton, Wigan and the Wirral have warned people with symptoms to stay away, saying there are no tests at their accident and emergency departments.
    Officials in the north-east of England say they will impose new restrictions by the end of the week.
    Huw Edwards presents BBC News at Ten reporting by health editor Hugh Pym, health correspondent Dominic Hughes and Fiona Trott.

How would labour boost capacity in the time needed? How would they keep up with the work load? If you can't answer then you should have no bones to pick at the way Boris us running the country tbh.

The tests are only for their livestock, partly to take your DNA for their new DNA collection pertaining to 'Coronavirus legislation' which rolls in October. It's just like what happened with Swine Flu in 2009-2010. The virus came and went, but they brought out "new" PCR tests and started testing like crazy. Hundreds of thousands of "cases" registered but no actual impact of disease. The hysteria went on for over a year. The same is happening with Covid. Only this time we have a brutal authoritarian government in the making.

    • @heliotropezzz333
      @heliotropezzz333 3 года назад +2

      @@heminder It's not hysteria with Covid. If doctors and nurses can't get tests that's serious. They can't work for fear of passing Covid onto patients. If children can't get tests they can't go to school and parents may not be able to go back to work as childcare may not be possible.

    • @heminder
      @heminder 3 года назад +4

      @@heliotropezzz333 It is _all_ hysteria at the moment. History is repeating itself. There is just so little impact from the disease that it doesn't warrant this madness. The government has voluntarily crippled the NHS by cancelling surgeries and _causing deaths_ just to test people with PCR for "cases". All the undiagnosed or untreated cancers, operations, emergencies etc are a bigger concern but all we seem care about is Covid. Which, by the way, isn't even seasonally active during this part of the year. See this on how epidemics actually work ruclips.net/video/8UvFhIFzaac/видео.html
      We don't need to test _everyone,_ certainly not children as they are of least concern in terms of risk. The government is using a crappy strategy. Only those who come in to close contact with vulnerable people (elderly, co-morbid, etc) ought to get checked. Everyone else has a near-zero risk from this bug.

      Try and say that to the families of the half a million + people who’ve died from it or been permanently affected from it.....
      they’d care to very much disagree.
      EVERYONE needs to get tested otherwise WHAT IS THE POINT? That’s like saying “we shouldn’t have intensive airport security just because a couple people tried to take down a few planes it doesn’t affect the majority”
      The point is it’s better to be SAFE than SORRY.....
      Would you rather a situation where you can confidently say you beat the pandemic and safely brought it to an end rather than one that results needlessly in more innocent people dying?
      Thats why we get kids vaccinated Because it’s better to be SAFE than SORRY.
      That’s why hospitals recommend getting regular health checks.

He had it, they sent him home with his family with nothing in the way of meds. Told them if he got worse to take him to emergency room, which they had to a few nights later, and they wouldn’t take him either because he didn’t need a respirator and sent him home with nothing. He got well on his own. But he was 85. They don’t want you unless you are already dead, so it doesn’t much matter if you get tested or not.

    I work in a restaurant and as soon as I got a fever and my smell changed my employer rightly so made me get a test which turned out positive. The test should only be avaliable for those with symptoms and those who are working and interacting with others. People should not be selfish with tests (eg they want to go on holiday or they can work at home). The testing system is overloaded because too many people who don't need it are trying to get it!

    Any other test with a less than 1% pick up rate and only 70% accuracy would have been regarded as useless in the past. Note that HMG says if you have symptoms, isolate until you have a negative test. Oxford University says isolate for 10 days even if you have a negative test as it is so inaccurate. Every primary school kid I know of gets three or four fevers every winter - isn’t this all a bit of an over-reaction?

    If someone has ‘ALL the key symptoms’, why do they so desperately need a test? The key symptoms suffice to tell them they must self-isolate - test or no test. People should take responsibility for themselves, instead of expecting to be mollycoddled by the government and blaming it for everything. Want someone to tell you what to do every step of the way? Then you deserve no freedom.

    Introduces policy to make schools have entire classes of children tested and all household members tested, they do AS EXPECTED. Fails to order sufficient extra kits to cope with demand and they run out AS EXPECTED. Number of positive cases report inaccurate numbers as many cases are going untested owing to shortages AS EXPECTED. My next expectation is that the classification of death by corona virus is changed so the death toll is not AS EXPECTED.
    If an office junior forgets to order ink for the copier, does she get away with it by saying more people used the copier than normal ? No she does not, she gets her P45 and there are some of those long over due in the present Covid debacle.

    Im not the most inteligent not sure if i spelt that right!!lol!! However i do have common sense boris johnson said children need to go back to school so we have done that on the believe it is safe to do. So we do as we are told by boris johnsons and his health secrtarys guidance then children going back to school is to blame for lack of test availability. know we are trying to make sure we dont send our children in to school in case us as parents or our children are infected but we cant be tested!!??so if children goin to school is why we cant get us or our children tested is a problem, why are we sending children to school and what is the point of 6 people meeting in public as a new law, if children goin to school is making it hard to keep up with testing and the prime minister is blaming the shortage of test on his push for parents to send children back to school.does he think the british public do not have sense to see this!? We need a fresh start and have a person in charge who has had hardship in their lives who has empathy who does what they have too,to make ends meet ,been in debt ,been depressed been to a job centre!!because this is not working!! We can take what ever is thrown at us as a nation and the goverment forgets communities dont support eachother to gain we do it because we know what its like to be in a bad situation!!

    The headline demonstrates the lack of knowledge of the system. Increased use of it is likely to increase the number of so-called ‘infections’, with the concomitant reactions by certain people. In truth, the vast majority of the public would be better off turning a blind eye to the wolf, and getting on with their lives.
