@mrbigvanlife7130 yes, most garage just want the easy stuff now- if you want more in depth investigations,it gets harder and harder, finding decent people/places.
Stopped helping friends find cars years ago, i get the blame if anything goes wrong with it 3 months later like i put a guarantee on it myself. Nope, not doing it anymore.
small local charities are the way to go. There is a dog charity local to me and when I retired 3 years ago I netted £100k tax free lump sum. So I drove there with a tray of dog food and whilst I was there I asked what did it cost to run every month - the lady said at least £1200 so I pulled out my cheque book ( felt weird hadn't written one in ages ) and just said - there you go £1250 to cover it. Then we both had a bloomin' good cry then a cup of tea and I left - and I am a cat person it was just the nearest local charity to me.

Remember years ago I looked at a car for the mother in law. Advised her not to buy it. Turned out her other half said it was actually fine in his opinion and she bought the car anyway. Unsurprisingly, it broke down repeatedly and somehow, I got the blame. 🤔 On another occasion, I looked at a prospective car purchase for a work colleague. Got a phone call the next day to say I had upset the seller who was a friend of their boss. Don't bother giving your opinion on cars to people. It's a thankless task. 😏
Surprised anyone buying a used car with a wet belt personally wouldnt touch them with a barge pole especially with that cost to replace, old tech is best tech get back to belts outside proven tech and you can see what your up against.
On the Nissan it may well be the tensioner rather than the chain or the crank sensor. I had a 1.8 Almera years ago which threw codes pointing to the chain. It turned out to be a sensor but can't recall which. Crank position sensor I think
Lumpy from cold could be injectors bud, try some cleaner, could even be low compression on a pot until it warms up, doubt if it's chain, troublesome diesels mate.

Its so easy to overlook that a 2018 car is 6 years old already - sign of me ageing lol I quite fancy a Note but the Duster refuses to die - made of girders ...........jinxed it now haven't I?
Agree. Total garbage now. My friend gets loads in as they are a good seller for him but he's got the disposition to deal with the headaches and they basically have fairy tree dashboards on everyone he buys.
Hi Chops, I have looked at many used cars, I reckon you could just sell the Hyundai without the hassle of some of the paint. Most dealers at that price range don't bother with refurbs
Did the Moors guys mention anything about the oil strainer being clogged with belt bits on the C-Max? I've heard bits of belt can shave off and clog it?

I know the 1.0 EcoBoost engine is a potential moneypit. Does this also apply to the 1.6 EcoBoost too? I need a large car and have seen some Mondeo Estates with the 1.6 EcoBoost engine but am worried it's a ticking timebomb. Thanks 👍
I sold a mate a dacia, only made 100 quid, then it's oh tyres going down, I took the wheel off, 2 studs broke (!) next it's drilling, easy outs, caliper off, lending him a car for holidays, new wheel studs, he called this morning and said it's not going down any more, even tho I'd not touched the tyre, ha, ha.
Can I suggest the Devon charity THHN which is based in Torbay for your next raffle. They provide holidays, to families who have seriously ill children, families who are recently bereaved - having lost a child or parent and to families who have a terminally ill parent.
On chain stretch it's usually cam and crank sensor codes, but obviously very hard to work out it was the wrong solinoid. They've stitched you up on that BM bud, looks a grand to me and tbh I'd not want it at that, rough old thing. They obviously knew the faults, it's bad form if he's a mate, can't see anyone giving you 3k for it as is, I'd be kicking off about it tbh, too, too genorous mate.

James any BMW is a bit of a risk they are so unreliable cars . I bought one a few years back with 68000 miles it was a right pain it was always breaking down with electrical problems . Never go near any BMW again !!
You’re MGB, the drivers side tyre, it’s on the wrong way round. Shouldn’t it be the same as the passenger tyre with the V tread groves towards the front so it disperses the rain.
Perhaps you need to develop your business; employ tech/valeter. Have one of units as a workshop, and the other as a showroom. You have a lot of space front, and rear for displaying vehicles.
With the Nissian, can you not claim some money back for the work done due to mis-diagnosing. Do the ability fc or an animal charity. Great video and content.
Shame the raffle has gone back to raffall ☹. They won't stop spamming me even though I keep unsubscribing. I will buy double the tickets on the next feelgoodcompetitions one though.
You are a generous soul indeed giving away so much of your profit. Love to hear about the details of work you have done to prep cars.. Who else does this? Usually quick was and tyre black stick a massive make up and out the door with a tail light warranty.
Firing the parts cannon changing multiple parts (the Nissan) without a firm diagnosis is a strong sign a garage aren’t too hot - IMO
Guess and check🤣

Surely the garage mis diagnosing the Nissan timing chain should cover at least some of the cost of labour etc?
lol if I'd done £500 of unnecessary cam belt replacement i think i would tell the bill payer i found a "stretch" too...
I had the wetbelt done on my fiesta and it was £850. I used a specialist that only working on ecoboost

If it is erratic idle, it won't be the chain, more likely the vanos units. I had mine done, £1400.

Looks as though timing chains cause just as much of a problem as cam belts , mostly down to cheap chain guides that wear far too quickly !

Interesting, in Australia the wet belt is 10 years or 150,000kms (90,000 miles)
Did the Moors guys mention anything about the oil strainer being clogged with belt bits on the C-Max? I've heard bits of belt can shave off and clog it?
Ford blame that the incorrect oil was used. Perhaps it was? A very picky engine indeed and best avoided like the plague.
