DIY JERRY CAN HAND LUGGAGE

- Опубликовано: 13 окт 2024
- In this video you can watch step by step how I transformed a Vintage 20 Litre JERRY CAN into a cool Hand Luggage!!!
I bought this Jerry Can from a scrap yard for 10 euros, it was produced in 1970 and has the date printed on its front side. I thought it would be a good idea to give it a second chance in life!!
The luggage which I cannibalized was my son's old school bag and was destined to end up in the garbage.
Luggage Dimensions
53.5 x 37 x 20 cm OR approx. 21 x 14.5 x 8 in

Great project! One of the best dyi things I have seen! Perhaps I am biased towards jerry cans ;) I suspect it weights 5kg or more, especially with the trolley.
Thank you very much for your comments! I am glad you liked it! It weighs exactly 6.5kgs. I just weighed it! 😄
It is not the perfect luggage for airplane trips but I also love it!
I am really happy I created such a cool luggage! 😊👍
New subscriber. Now I have to hit flea markets for a chainsaw bar, files, a jerry can.......
Hahaha!! Yes I think you should start going to scrap yards, flea markets!! Also you should start looking at what people throw in the garbage cans! You'll be surprised!! 😄😄
Good job ! Modification to consider. Transform the spout into an umbrella stand (most people think that traveling is synonymous with beautiful weather, which is rarely the case, unfortunately).
Great job!
I'd maybe add some Molly attachments or netting on one side inside. For removable pockets or toiletry bags.
Thank you very much! That is a good idea!
Excelente trabajo
Muchas gracias! 😊👍
That´s a really heavy duty luggage...awesome
Thank you very much for your comments!!!
Love this! Up cycled and unique! No more mistaking bags at the airport! Keep up the good work!
Show de bola 👏👏👏
Muchas gracias! 😊👍
brilliant dude highly original excellent job
Thank you very much!!
Brilliant idea and execution. 👍🏻😁 I've a few original world war two German examples. I still use one for fuel, but another is leaky. Might do this with it.
Original WW2 Jerry can ! Cool!! Good luck with your project!
Thank you very much for your comments!! 😊👍👍
@@RustisGold Thank you sir. 👍🏻 They used to be cheap years ago, well they made millions of them so... Hand luggage in panzer grey with "Wehrmacht" and "1943" on the side might be interesting alright 😁 Swords into ploughshares. So long as I don't remove a finger or two with the grinder while making it. 😁 Great channel by the way. I love making things last longer in this throwaway world. Subscribed.
Not very cheap any more...
It can be an interesting project!
It's true...we live in an era where people love to throw old items and replace them with cheap "Made in China" ones... My house is full of old items that I found in the garbage or in flea markets and scrapyards and I restored them or transformed them and have a new use now. Many of these items you can see on my videos.
I am glad you like my channel, thanks for subscribing! 👍
What a masterpiece!!!
Thank you Sir!
Brilliant idea, what every bloke needs especially for an overnight stay.
Looks brilliant really awesome idea.
I dont think after all that work I would let a baggage handler anywhere near it though. ;0)
Thank you very much for your comments! Glad you liked it! 😊👍
The idea is ingenious no matter what your using it for. I have a Jeep Wrangler and this piece of luggage would look cool as hell packed in it. Your instruction was very good as well. So with that said.... why is there 117 thumbs down. Exactly what kind of trolling douchebags go to a video like this and get so butthurt that they give it a thumbs down.
Thank you so much for your comments!!! That's exactly the point! I didn't create the luggage in order to use it at the airport! I know it is heavy and can be used maybe for something else. For me the whole idea of transforming this Jerrycan from 1970 that I bought for 10€ at a scrap yard was more of of an art project rather than to just create a practical luggage... You can not imagine how many negative comments I have received not just for this project but for other projects as well... I have come to the conclusion that a lot of people, the famous RUclips haters, just love to hate what other people create. It is also interesting that 99% of these people if you check their RUclips channels they have not created a single toothpick... They just sit in their couch drinking beers and criticize.... Thanks again, have a great day!
If it is one of the new Wrangler JL models, then the keyless start fob is about the same size as the jerry can. :)
hey how much would you charge to do another one? seems like somethin cool to buy for a gift for someone
Nice idea.. This bag good for toolbox.
Yes, this is a good idea!
Brilliant job done!
Thank you very much!!!
Ουαου!!!!! Φοβερή ιδεα ευχαριστούμε πολύ !

De todas las ideas que e visto con bidones, esta es por mucho la mejor.

Very nice job!
Thank you very much!!
hi, can I have the list of materials that you have used?
Хороший чемодан под инструмент:-)
Это правда!
how to get checked by TSA everytime XD
Hahaha!! That is true!
Pretty freakin cool, I'd actually buy one like this if it were available, so much stronger and more interesting than the expensive garbage synthetic luggage china is selling us.
Thank you! I am glad you liked it! There is a company selling similar luggages. If I am not mistaken it is called G-Case.
Nice job! May be customize the inside to make a toolbox for all of your tools. :-)
Thank you very much! This could be an option but I have too many tool boxes!! 😊👍
@@RustisGold hear you. Paint it yellow to make all the Dewalt guys jealous at you for a change. Hahaha.
This is even cooler!!! 😄👍👍👍
that was just sooo cool 😍😍
Thank you very much!!! 😊👍👍
Необычный чемодан ,а если приспособить перегаротки,т.е удерживающие ленты вообще будет отлично. Молодец автор👍

This is true! I am not planning on using it on air trips!
Brilliant!!
Thanks again!! 😊👍
Looove this & would totally place an order if possible
Muito bom! O difícil é conseguir a embalagem ou o galã o + gostei muito
Muito obrigado pelos seus comentários !!!
Thinking about doing this. What did you do to "clean out" the jerry can so it was safe to cut with an angle grinder?
It was really old and rusty. It has a stamp on it 1970. I found it on a scrap yard. It hadn't seen gasoline inside it for ages! However, you can fill it with water and soap detergent and wash it well and then cut it. I've seen people cutting when the containers are full of liquid. I would never do it due to the fear of electrocuting my self! So I suggest you empty it after you wash it and then cut it.
What a beauty! Got me thinking of looking for one of these to convert myself. What made you decide to use butt hinges as opposed to say a piano hinge?
very nice 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Thank you very much!!
Bravo! Samsonite hates you, this is incredible...
Hahaha!! I hope they won't sue me! Thank you very much for such positive comments! Your name looks definitely Greek so in that case σε ευχαριστώ πολύ και πάλι!

Hey guys we found the black box !, oh never mind it’s someones luggage. (Great job)
Hahaha! This is true!
Thank you very much!
SUPER! очень креативно =)
Thank you!!
Very cool vid! Been thinking about doing this my self n found this vid! but in the description you say end up in the garbage? What does garbage mean?
Thank you very much for your comments! I was referring to my son's old school bag which I used in order to take the mechanism. If I hadn't up cycled it it would end up in the garbage.
wats a nice product! I love this!
Wonderful job!!
Thank you very much!!!

So cool man. Congratulation.
Thank you very much!!!
well done. but why didn't you just use shorter bolts? you don't have to grind them off either.
Thank you very much for your comments. You are absolutely right however I always use what I have in stock!
@@RustisGold.Yes I am like that too. I have 2 jerry cans. Definitely go try this.
@@nathanhold4755 nice! Good luck with your project! 👍👍👍
WONDERFULL!!!
Thank you very much!
@rustisgold what are the two sizes and types of tubing used around the join? im planning to build one like this as i have an old jerry can.
I used two different types of gas tubes, one smaller and one bigger and epoxy glue to stick them on the join.
@@RustisGold thankyou for the help! :D
Beautiful! Where did you purchase the telescopic handle/wheels?
Thank you very much! If you notice on the video, I used my son's old school bag which was going to be thrown in the garbage.
Stunning build There! Though you got the colour wrong, should be proper dark grey or dark yellow^^ ;) - just kidding! Might try this out with some of the old cans around the cellar here^^.
Best regards
Raoul G. Kunz
Thank you very much for your comments!! I am glad you liked it!! Good luck with your empty canisters!
You could rivet the hinges, so it cant come out as easily
This is true...
I had wondered why not use rivets too.
Brasil de olho! Muito bacana brother.
Muito obrigado!!! Saudações da Grécia!!!

Thank you very much!!!

Thank you!!!
good..
Thanks!!!
nice idea
Thank you!!
:) I dig it, but i love to make one that is bigger :)
Whatever you like! 😊👍
Ideas, price product free
👍👍👍
Where did you get the wheels and trolley handle from?
From my son's old school bag that was destined for the garbage.
@@RustisGold I see. They are also available online. Google "factory telescopic luggage handle"
Nice! You don't need to look for an old luggage! 😊👍
@@RustisGold true that
Great idea. Μπραβο.
Для металлодетекторов аэропорта, самая "нужная" вещь. "Облегчит" вам проход таможенного досмотра))))
good idia..thank
Thank you!
That’s easy 3kg off your allowed check in luggage or handcarry. Really durable though.
I know it's quite heavy for air travel but it is a cool item to carry!! 😊👍
@@RustisGold You should add a red digital clock face to the front of it so you always know what time it is and make sure you get to your flight on time or have a countdown timer on it. Or add a digital encryption lightup lock on it.
Good idea but if they see a digital countdown on this type of luggage they will definitely think it's a bomb!! 😄😄😄💥💣💥💣💥
More like 5kg, especially with the trolley ;)
Thats really cool👍👍 did you ever pass the Security/ Custom? Well done!! I Like it.... Greets from Vienna, christian 👋
Thank you very much Christian! I am not planning on using it on trips that involve airports!
Greetings from Greece!
Only thing missing is padding and pockets for the inside. Sadly one run through baggage claim it'll look like it did at 1.5 minutes.
Thank you very much for your comments!
Can you tell the names of the lock which is using this video & what’s size &proper name of rubber pipe/tube (black)???????
Rubber pipe /tube which is cut by knife please tell me the real thing and boths size because I wanna make this trolley & I love this video
The rubber pipe I put on the luggage is used for gas. I bought it at a local hardware store. It is not difficult or rare to find...
Wonder what the TSA reaction was.
I haven't used it at the airport!
@@RustisGold i think it'd be ok. I mean whatever delusion they came up with would still be a delusion. Very cool case!
@@khomdrom3008 it should be ok. However I am planning on using it on other type of trips, not airplane trips. It is quite heavy as well, but I agree it is cool and I saved it from getting recycled at a scrapyard. It was made in 1970, same year I was born!
Take care friend!
Excelente ideia, ainda mais que aqui no meu país as bagagens são reviradas e saqueadas em todos os aeroportos! Desse jeito somente com as chaves e autorização os meus pertences seriam checados! ! !
Muito obrigado!
Fantástico!!!
Gracias!!
How heavy? We are ways trying to remove something like 2.4 pounds when we check in.
Ok, it's not the lightest suitcase you can use but definitely is very unusual!!
Some day I'm gonna do exactly the same .
Good luck!
Why had not you painted the end? Great DIY luggage and videó! I send respect!
Thank you very much for your comments! What do you mean about not painting the end? I have painted the Jerrycan both inside and outside.
@@RustisGold when ended this box, after painted.
@@piros36 shit what she means is "why didn't you paint the edges at the bottom of the can, in the corner, nearby the wheels?" ;') Lol... great work dude!
RIP that gorgeous distressed patina.
Oh please... The Jerry can was in a really bad shape, all rusty... I like the patina on old objects but not in this case...
Good Work but for Travel with those extra weight - Good fo Tool Box
Thank you very much for your comments. I know it's not the best luggage for air traveling but it is cool! Tool box is a very good idea as well!
Wonderful, leaking luggage.
id use it on train travels and such, because airport security would "confiscate" it.
It is true that airports are not the best place to use this kind of luggage now days!
Won't your weight allowance get used up cause of how heavy the metal is?
It is more of a decorative creation.... Not practical for air traveling...
@@RustisGold Oh okay, thank you for the clarification! The b-roll at the end threw me off a bit 😅😁
I think empty the metal can is about 11 lbs. Definitely pretty but like you said not practical. Maybe if you didn't need much stuff 🙂
Good luck getting on a plane 😂😂
This would be FUN!!! 😄😄😄👍👍
great
Thank you very much!
