Another great reaction guys. This was their 2nd ever MV and not written by the band (but by a man). If you watch the Official Live of this song then you'll see the FUN they have with it. Awesome and Kickass sums it up. Peace. 1.58
The craziest part about your comments on Akane is that this song is 8 years old! She's done nothing but work to improve her playing since then. This is basically "beginner" Akane that you lust listened to. 🤣
You really need to check out the live version from their 2018 Zepp Tokyo concert. When you both see and HEAR how Saiki and Miku take control of the audience, it will blow your mind.

Band-Maid's early songs were all written by professional song writers although the band altered them a bit to match the members unique preferences. They always wanted to write their own music, so they submitted many songs that were rejected by their management team while they learned the intricacies of professional songwriting. Finally, they wrote the song "Alone" which was the first song that passed muster and the talent of Band-Maid as songwriters and composers were made evident in that great song. Subsequent songs by them demonstrated their genius for creative songwriting and performance which has captivated and awed their many fans.
Yes, there may be technically better ones, faster ones, show-wise better ones, but as an overall package Akane is one of the absolute (maybe even the) best for me as well. How often is she the one who completely drives a song or gives it that certain something with fills or the like... Maybe not at first glance, but she is outstanding. 🔥🤘🏻

I don't understand why Band Maid fans don't wish this excellent song in the (ultra cool) live version from 2018 by the Reactors. Indescribable hard rock power.❓❓I love it.
Because this version is better.
LoveBites, Nemophila, and Band-Maid make up my Japanese metal/rock hat trick. You can't go wrong with any of their songs. So glad to see so many women playing rock/metal. Back in my day I had such a hard to get a band to take a chance on me as a female bass player.
I have added Hanabie to that trifecta all great.

You want darker? Check out their MV for "Rinne" (Ressurection). Arguably one of their heaviest songs.
The way I always interpreted this song was that they're the virtual woman or rather that the song is from the perspective of a fake persona, similar to that you might find at a maid cafe. I see the references to "games" as allegorical, in the way that dating is often called a game, but particularly when one or both sides have a vested interest in deceit. The juxtaposition between the lyrics and their expressions throughout the video strongly imply a high level of dishonesty.
The verses are evocative of a siren's call. Initially the subject correctly identifies the fantasy as simply that "the stuff in your head makes me a cute doll, your fantasy" but they attempt to erode the subject's boundary "you won’t find another woman like this, not in the real world." As we move to the second verse the subject has begun to accept the siren's reality. That grove? It's buildings now, how strange, maybe there's a glitch in truth? "No makeup to mask my feelings THAT YOU KNOW." The subject thinks they've seen the real person but it's still an illusion. This is further emphasized by the inclusion of double meanings through intentionally ambitious lyrics. "Come On, Night" sounds like "Kamawanai" (doesn't matter). We reach the final verse after an extended instrumental segment which implies a passage of time. In this verse the subject is returned to reality "a woman as good as this just can’t be real." This is then further punctuated by a call back to the first verse "embrace your lonely freedom, your virtual doll." except this time instead of being called to open their mind, the subject is told this is reality, let me go.

I would suggest you watch the live version. It blows this old MV out of the water.
While others have pointed out that they didn't write this song, I still enjoyed your discussion of the lyrics. Another early song with even crazier lyrics is "Don't Let Me Down". The first song that was completely written by the band is "Alone", which has surprisingly dark lyrics.
I always love the images of Akane in most of her shots, & especially the long shots, where she is doing her best impersonation of "Animal" from the Muppet show. God bless her little cotton socks.

"Real Existence" lyrics by Miwa Sasaki, music by Koji Goto. "New Beginning" was the last album with _no_ band-written songs. The following release "Brand New Maid" had eight songs, "Yuragu" has lyrics by MIku and Saiki and "Alone" is credited completely to the band. The next album, "Just Bring It", had 9 of 13 band-written songs. They haven't looked back. Thanks for the reaction!
You REALLY need to watch the official live version of this! Performed a couple years later and so, even more intense.
MISA MISA MISA!!!!! this MV was my first view of Band-Maid and only my second View of JAPANESE rock/metal (Wagakki Band "Senbonzakura" being the first) back in 2016 when I was trying to find a Japanese band that had been played on an alt radio station in Australia (where I live) that later turned out to be "Karate" by Babymetal.

Not that the MV is bad, but the live version is amazing.
Scuze me if you already did it, but the live version of this on their channel is even better - electric!!! I heard Thrill first close to 4 years ago, which was enough to make me do a 2nd one. That second one was Real Existence Live - and this maidiac has never looked back. Also, this was from before they started writing their own songs, so early maids. Could explain the lyrics you mentioned. If you really want sexy lyrics of course it's Don't Let Me Down - which is another song that they didn't write. It rocks, but not in my top half of maid songs. RE Live on the other hand...
For the next B-M video you react to, I'll suggest Alone, the first song they wrote themselves (and that was recorded) or a recent instrumental, From Now On. Or just see how good a random choice is!

Bittersweet love is often the subject of their songs. Their self written song, Daydreaming, could be their own version of Real Existence. Or maybe Puzzle. Or maybe Choose Me. Or maybe Secret My Lips.
Guys you need to react to a recent RUclips release called Band Maid/ 4 Demensional "Screaming". The person called Dean F merged the fan cam video and audio from four concerts they played in May 2023. The venues were Atlanta, Nashville, Charlotte, and Detroit. They were played in 6 days. The audio from "Screaming" during the concerts was virtually seamless. Amazing! It shows the professionalism and cohesiveness of the group.
Thx for the reaction. This is an early song by the band that was written for them. It's a wonderful song, esp the live version, but it was during the time when the band was still struggling to get management to give the band's own music a chance. If you're interested in their early stuff, I'd personally recommend the early stuff released and written by the band (Alone, Yolo, Unfair Game, Matchless Gum are the first four songs released by the band, and are all amazing). If you can get your hands on any songs from their live 2017 Studio Coast concert, the audio of this performance is amazing and any song from it is worth reacting to (esp imo Awkward, Puzzle, and Moratorium). Enjoy the ride!
Great reaction! This is an early song, off their second EP. It's still a common song to play at one of their shows.
If you think the lyrics to this are sexy read the ones to 'Don't Let Me Down'. LOL! They didn't write that one! But this is nothing. You should see the Official LIVE Video! Do it next. It will blow you away! Funny you should say they are total beasts. Drummer Akane's nickname is The Beast. And sometimes Gorilla.
Itai and Asaf thank you for your comments and reaction to Band-Maid’s Real Existence. Itai has anyone mentioned you resemble David Draiman from Disturbed (minus the piercings). No offense is intended. Itai your comments about the lyrics are interesting because in Japan, some of males, are taken in by pornography instead of real relationships.

The live absolutely elevates this song to another level. Certain bands though their videos are good are just better seeing them live… see Band Maid, Babymetal and Jinjer.
There's nothing wrong with pausing the video to talk about what you're seeing and hearing, but don't you think a 5 minute break is a bit long? The song starts to lose continuity after a while.
Nice discussion after the song. I think the words are talking about her frustrations with someone who prefers a 2D girl over a real one.
I vote for intelligent commentary, regardless of length. I can watch the original video anytime. Intelligent commentary gives me more insight into the song, and increases my appreciation of same.
Why don't you like live music? Band maid is one of the best live groups, especially this song, they miss seeing the real talent of the girls.
