    Great video! I'm in maintenance as well and have many of these Amana ptac units. I've had to learn about them obviously.. My problem is, I never see a fault code when a unit isn't heating or cooling properly. Usually, the unit is just blowing hot or cold air when the opposite is desired

    I live in HUD. In the deep south. They set the a/c to 80 (which means close to 90 in the other room since there is only one of these). I reset it. I don't like it freezing anyway (74 is fine for me during the day and would like it 68 or so at night). I also unhobbled the heat. They had set that to be no warmer than 68 which means in the other room it would be in the high 50's (there is an 8-10 temperature difference between the two rooms). I will need to be careful to make my apartment hot in the summer and freezing in the winter if they ever some in so they don't figure it out but I am very grateful not to be miserable any more.

    To reset A/C systems.(PTEC units)
    Hold temp up and down arrows and press heat twice while holding it.
    Motors covered for warrenty (just not labor) - about 250
    To move system off remote
    Hold temp up and down arrows and press off twice while holding it. And than press heat and the up and downs will move it
    C1. 0 is manual. rE is remote

    Thank you for this video. My unit was not producing heat so I ran the diagnosis you recommended at the beginning and like you, I I also smelled heat at the end of the test. So when the test was done, I turned the heat on and it was back to working. Not sure how it go fixed but I assume running the diagnosis reset everything. Why the heat stopped working? I can only assume that there was too much accumulated dust in the fins and the unit shut down for safety and so it would not actually break.

    How's it going Jeff. My PTAC Amana A/C works fine and fan. But when I turn on the heat, I hear clicking and the fan just constantly blows and the heat won't turn on. I held down the up and down button, pressed the heat button twice, and let it run in A/C and Heat mode. Everything seemed to work fine. Both the A/C and Heat worked and then it turned off as yours did. But when I turn on heat and put the temperature all the way up to 90, the heat just will never turn on. I double clicked cool and hit "Fan speed" like you said and got to the Set Point option. Everything read similar to yours did but when it showed "I C" for indoor coil, it just showed "1." And then "77". Does that mean 177 degrees or something different? What seems to be the problem and how do I go about fixing it? Thanks man.

    Hello, I live in an apartment complex and maintenance has come twice to look at my unit and haven't fixed it. The filters are clean and he cleaned the coils but it continues to trip the lower left green light indicating a problem. I am in Iowa and it will trip the light after running for awhile especially as the day heats up and gets hot. The air coming out will then become warm and it is not cold. At some point in the night the diagnostic light will go out and it will blow cold air like it is supposed to. Basically it acts like it is overheating. I just figured out how to get codes and C7 comes up. Any Thoughts???

    what does error code L3 mean? Compressor runs thens stop's for 20 minutes. L3 comes on but no error light. There is no codes for the L3 nor does amana respond to my emails. I know it has somthing to do with the red thermistor. Pull it they will just run until the evporator freezes up. Anyway to change the compressor shutoff length?

    Jeff - so glad I found this. I know my PTAC is not working correctly in my independent living apartment and can find no one to answer my simple questions. A new PTAC was installed in my ground floor apartment 500 sq. feet before I moved in October 2020. The problem is - its taking way too long to heat my small unit. When I turn on the heat - it comes out at the best lukewarm and takes far too long to heat this small space. The maintenance here will not listen and I am frustrated. Mine is similar to the above - don't you have to bleed the AC line to get the heat to flow effectively with a new install? Please help me with information. My heating bill is way too high.

      Make sure your Amana PTAC unit is plugged in and powered off.
      Hold down the temperature up and down buttons then double tap the off button. C1 will display on the screen.
      Press the Heat button until C8 is displayed. C8 is the cooling limit.
      Use the temperature up and down buttons to set the lowest temperature you want the unit to be able to reach.
      Press the off button to save the settings.
      To set the heating limit, simply repeat steps 1-4, except change C9 instead of C8.

    Just moved Into a new building apt (1st tenants) and there are Amana in the wall ac’s. I have 3units and for the most part my living room
    And 2year old daughters rooms units are fine with the exception that I would like them hotter as if left on all day at 90° the apt should be hot and it’s just warm, but my bedrooms ac if left on starts off warm and then as time goes on starts to make noise as if the compressor comes on and then the warm air turns into cool air (not cold air) my only assumption is maybe Bc the room is hot the ac unit will try to cool the room down Bc it’s hot? But that would make no sense Because that’s what auto is for. if left on high the unit should remain giving off hot (90°) heat. Can you help explain what’s going on?

    What causes the heat pump to short cycle. It's a new model with digital display. AZ65

    • @geoffhoweth
      @geoffhoweth  6 лет назад

      Low or high pressure the switches are triggering had to cut off so either it's low on freon probably the case are high on freon also the compressor could be going in thermal cut out

    How can I make my unit heat the room using the reversing valve instead of the heat strips ? I have a ptac Amana unit. Thxs

    • @geoffhoweth
      @geoffhoweth  5 лет назад

      The simplest way in my opinion is under where the control board is there are two wires that go to the heat strips unplug them

    Need some help with Amana 42" PTAC.. I have a couple hotel rooms where heat kicks on and runs for some time and then quits and blows cold air.
    Sometimes it can work for hours and quits. Sometimes heat will not kick on. sometimes it can work for days.
    I've tried replacing electronic control board but seems like problem is still there.

    Hey, nice video!
    So what would you do if the fan is constantly blowing? Even when the thermostat on wall says off.

    • @geoffhoweth
      @geoffhoweth  6 лет назад

      Well there could be a number of things but 1. Make sure the fan is on auto on the thermostat. 2. Could be a stuck fan relay on main control board. Tapping lightly on the relay might fix that but will do it again for sure so replace control board. 3. Programming in the thermostat could not be right. Or the wiring to the thermostat is wrong. But sometimes the unit after being in heat for a while will run the fan for a while like 3 -5 mins after you have shut the unit off. It does this to cool the compressor and Heat strips. Mine is not blowing as cool as it used to out of the blue what do you think the problem is

    • @geoffhoweth
      @geoffhoweth  5 лет назад

      Try this 1st its my go to before I dive a little deeper. Follow these simple steps to manually reset your Amana PTAC unit:
      1. Remove the front cover of the unit.
      2. Turn off the master power switch under the control panel. Leave off for at least 5 seconds.
      3. Push and hold both the heat and cool buttons
      While holding the buttons, turn the master switch back on.
      4. When the red light appears next to the off button, the system has been successfully reset.
      This will do a master reset.
      The other things to look for would be a cracked or chipped rear fan blade. Also make sure all the coils front and back are clean also the filters. Hope this helps.

    That black wire/chord inside the ac was pulled out of my AC. I believe one of my kids did it. It used to hang then one day it was completely out. I reconnected one end but the other end looks like it clips to something.
    My ac was reading error F1. It seems to work now, I just dont know what to do with the other end.
    Thanks

      It's a front coil sensor just plug it in between the fins of the coil on the front of the unit doesn't really matter where it goes as long as it's by the coil thanks for watching hope this helps
