Kind of reminds me of the airport fights. The highway was there 10 years before Vail became a town. Just like an airport people move next to it and then complain about the noise. People moved next to I-70 and now complain about traffic noise. The highway was there before you were and you built next to it. I say get over it.
I love skiing Vail. It is very hard to beat, but I don’t think of it as being a town. It was a sheep pasture before they put the lifts in. The highway has always been there. I don’t think spending billions on a tunnel is a practical solution. Put a lid on top of I 70 hand make it into a park.
awwwww..... the rich snobs don't like noise.... the very noise that allows them to have clothing, food, gear, car parts, etc, etc. Who cares about Vail!
If the town of Vail and its residents want to pay for it, drill away. CDOT can't handle maintaining/managing what they currently have. Probably 30 years behind on transportation infrastructure. Ask any skiers about that. I quit years ago. I don't like staring at the vehicles bumper in front of me while crawling along at 20mph.
The roads can no longer support the stress weight from these semi trucks rolling through here, and the entire USA. The technology is outdated. Major issues with the constant freeze thaw cycle. How many fuel tanker trucks are driving way to fast for the conditions. The experienced trucker of 29 years in december 2019 driving to fast slams into a jackknifed semi in dowd junction at 4am or so and is decapitated. I just went through there 30 minutes before on the way to work. Colorado dept of trans brags about how road improvements are done. Eastbound I70 from the East Vail exit 3 miles or more the road was a joke. Giant ruts from truck chains. That road section was in poor shape the entire summer.

Yep
Was traffic the same 10 yrs ago? Can't things evolve?
Enough money to be able to buy $10,000,000 homes, not enough sense to get a good location. Tax the rich.
