Great project, I worked on a similar project that estimated the distance of target but did not get round to adding a zoom feature. Actually the zoom feature was to keep a robot at a certain distance moving forward or backwards.

Except that you used only one IR sensor, we will track anyone for a whole room or hall and thus use more sensors not mounted on the bot but fix with wall or something like that. Cool, but steppers are pretty noisy.
This design used solid motor mounts and was noisy. Isolating the motors with soft silicone mounts will eliminate nearly all vibrations.
@@robotcantina8957 you can by now use tmc2xxx series of stepper drivers.
