Influential Artists: The Art of Jim Morgan

Jim Morgan, while very successful, I feel is extremely unrecognized in the Western art community. I consider him one of the greatest wildlife artists of all time.
I have been blessed to grow up around some really great art. My grandparents used to be art collectors. Each time I visit them, it's like visiting a museum full of incredible Western art. Of the paintings they had, their Jim Morgan was always one that stood out to me. The first painting I included is actually the one they have!
What I believe makes his work stand out among the other masters of wildlife art is the interactive nature it possesses. You can almost always find an animal in his work. However, they are usually really close in value and color to the surrounding landscape which makes it nearly impossible to spot them right off the bat. Jim invites the viewer to actively spend time searching the painting. In the meantime, the viewer discovers subtleties in detail that he wouldn't have discovered otherwise. It is a very effective technique!
Like the rest of the Western art greats, Jim is a master of capturing light and atmosphere. I don't even need to explain this. Just look at his work!
