Dont agree with these about Reed and fighting , going on about ‘back in my day back in the 80’s’ .. my dad showed me a game from 88 yesterday and it was embarrassing and pretty boring almost every tackle was high and punches were been thrown with no punishment it was utter rubbish think it was wigan v st helens or something the game just kept getting stopped for fighting , to try and compare now to back then is load of 💩 from these 2 , Reed did nothing wrong the guy that headbutted him needs to control himself and deserves a ban for what he did simple as that

Joey played in an era where you’d get belted so he knew the risk but he’s nowhere near as bad as the blokes these days, Joey would sledge and made sure the opposition knew the score line, Mahoney runs 30m to arch up to guys twice his size because he knows he’s protected

NRL needs to take a page out of NHL fighting. Let them go at it until someone is on the ground then break it up. Third man in gets game misconduct. Both fighting players get 5 min. penalty instigator gets and extra 2 minutes. team is only short handed for 2 min. the major penalty does not disadvantage the team only the instigators team. Fighting is part of the game, relieves tensions and cuts down on dangerous penalties like slashing or spearing.
