    About changing careers...just think about how many years you have until retirement (around 65, I think). Even if you do graduate at 33, that's still another lifetime of working! Change at 50, you still have 15 years. Just do whatever makes you happy!

    • @justinthunstrom
      @justinthunstrom 2 года назад +5

      That's very true!

    • @xwinwinwinx
      @xwinwinwinx 2 года назад +2

      True. I see what you are saying. Its always good to do the best thing for your health and what will make you happy.
      But at the same time, the flip side of that, is thinking about how many years you have until retirement and can you AFFORD to swtich careers and re-train?
      Going back to collage and/or switching careers you will start from the bottom of the ladder again, earn less and put less money away into your pension.
      Even if you can afford the pay cut currently, can you pension pot afford the pay cut? Will this screw you over later on, when you are retired?
      Just some things to think about on the flip side.

      @@xwinwinwinxI’m 28 and have switched careers at least 3 times already, and each time it’s literally starting from rock bottom. No seniority, your savings deplete quickly, and I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to afford a home. It’s a beautiful thought that you can switch as much as you want, but it’s true that it’s maybe not feasible for everyone

    For the story of the baby gate, it’s just laziness and pure toxic masculinity! IF HE WANTED TO HE WOULD! Op is just telling us about the baby gate, who knows what else husband is not doing! He probably doesn’t help with feedings and diaper changes. And yes I’m talking from experience. I had to build my baby’s swing, crib, closet and bed while having a man by my side. Now I’m my own handyman but I take pride in it lol I’ll make sure my son grows up to be a handyman a house cleaner, mechanic and a very useful human being.

    My mom (age 50+) at the start of covid (2020) got breast cancer, she was fired from her job (she’s worked with media and communication all her life) and her life got tuff. With lots of meds and some better days of her sickness she started to take classes in yoga therapy. She got super interested in yoga and everything that comes with it. Now she is cancer free and have started her own yoga clinic, where she helps people (mostly those going through breast cancer) to feel better. And enjoys what she’s doing :))

    That was really good advice for the person who’s cat passed away. I have an older kitty and his health hasn’t been great this past year so the fact that one day I’ll lose him is every present in my thoughts. I appreciated this advice as well. I have no family (orphan) and don’t live in the city my friends live in. With Covid it’s been a rather lonely 2 years. I needed this advice today. Thank you

    I just would like to reach out and thank you Jerry for being able to put into words something my father didn't know how to. The advice about the kitty actually hit me pretty hard, I had to make the decision to put my 7 year old (I've had him since he was 6 weeks old.) GSD down due to his worsening allergy's on 2/11. I recorded the bit about there is another animal that needs your love as much as you need theirs and sent it to my own father -- his response was "that man is a man of wisdom, I wish I could buy him a drink (or soda) for giving you that push and comfort." Thank y'all so much and thank you guys for hitting on even sensitive topics and helping people all over. Also -- my heart goes out to you Morgan, we have the same love of GSD's and hearing about you having to make that decision as well really hit home when I was listing to THTs.

    Love this episode! Specially the story with the baby gate. I found it so interesting and very relatable! I was thinking just like Morgan, but Jerry’s take on it was actually very insightful. my jaw was on the floor when you were reading the first question! i am in exactly the same position i am studying teaching to be a high school art teacher and i absolutely love the kids and teaching and seeing the students understand or get something or learn something new about themselves. i am very passionate about that. but the education system really feels exhausting to work within, like the writer said most of the work is prep and marking and grunt work. your answers really made a lot of sense to me and solidified my resolve and passion to finish my degree and get my qualification and see where that takes me and what opportunities come up. thank you guys!

    The baby gate couple, the husband is words of affirmation. There is a great example of this scenario in the five love languages book. He won’t do task around the house because she doesn’t show appreciation and now it has snowballed into him procrastinating. She should start hyping him up when he does little task and that will encourage him to do more projects in a timely manner… love the podcast!

    The cat story hit so close to home... I lost one of my cats in a very similar way back in October and, even though we did everything we could, and we were with him and loved him until his last moments, I still feel guilty about not being able to do more to help him, and I still miss him every day. God I'm crying just writing about him. Thank you guys so much for those beautiful words; even though I didn't send this story, everything you said got to me and brings a smile to my face, knowing that he still got to live a good life, and that those short years he was with us, we gave him all the love we had inside us

    the story about losing your cat really hit home. i’m in such a similar boat, ie rocky home life and minimal friends/support. my kitty “prim” was my baby and i lost her unexpectedly to health issues last year. the pain was immense and so hard to get through, and it truly took time and giving my love to a new kitten (that i got a few months later) to fully heal. i also resonate with the guilt and feeling like you could’ve done more. i even had a vet tell me i should’ve taken her in for checkups more, however i’m a college student and wasn’t working due to covid and could not afford it. she was showing no signs of sickness up until it happened. i was sick with remorse, however now i know that vet was out of line. you saying “you’re not god” made me bawl my eyes out because i wish i someone told me that when i blamed myself. i’m crying as i write this, but not in a bad way, i just feel so touched by your loving words and i thank you.

    Pet loss. I have lost 3 pets within the last year and a half. I got them all around the same time. So it was inevitable. But what helped me most was adopting a new pet soon after. I didn’t “replace” my pets. No one could say I didn’t love those babies with everything in me. But it helped my other pets cope and in turn, really helped me. I know this isn’t the norm. I just want to say for anyone who feels they’ll be judged for “replacing” a pet. You know your heart, and your intentions. Do what is best for you. My house is not a home without pets! There is no better feeling than giving a pet the best home possible.

    How fucked up am I that I have been listening to this podcast/RUclips for a couple weeks, and the only one that brought tears to my eyes was the one who lost her cat?
    But the reassurance from y’all about how my boy has completed his mission and now it’s up to me to carry on his spirit towards another animal provides me peace. Thank you. I am fortunate that I have people in my life that let me love on their animals. In my town, people incarcerated by the city provide care and loves for the animals in the shelter, so I can’t volunteer down there. My situation is, I am in a rental, no pets allowed. Not even a fish. Animals provide me the total love, not dependent upon my social skills or my ability to calm myself down around other human beings.
    Humans tend to be manipulative. Animals are, but in a completely funny and obvious way…(huskies).
    I trust an animal way more than humans. I know this is off topic, but just rambling….

    Hi!
    I have been watching Morgan’s videos, I think I have seen all of them, and I just stumbled on this series. I love them! I just wanted to give a small opinion on the title of this channel. I feel as though it doesn’t sound quite right. Everyone has heard of the “Father Knows Best” title because of the popular sitcom in the ‘50s and I can see why you played on that title. It has nostalgia. But maybe if you kept it to “Father Knows” and left it at that because that’s simple and sweet, or make it “Father Does Know Something” where adding the “Does” shows that, despite how every new generation feels as though the older generations are clueless, they have life experience and turns out, they actually do know what they’re talking about when giving advice. I feel as though either of those two options would help it to stick or catch in people’s mind.
    Regardless, I love your content and I know this is an unsolicited opinion. I can’t wait to keep watching! - Cristina

    my esa puppy Bear died when he was 8 months old and went to get neutered.. i think about him everyday but needed to get a new best friend after he died because i could not live my life without a dog once i experienced his love everyday unconditionally . I often feel guilt for 1. taking him to get neutered that day and 2. for getting a new dog mostly due to comments that some immature college students make ( i'm 20.5 lol). But i know he loved me more than anything.. separation anxiety unfortunately but all he wanted was for me to be happy. he was so special and everyone who he met loved him immediately. I feel months later that i would still be crying everyday without having honey to raise. my roommate at the time also got a puppy because honey literally fell into my lap (a dude w a lot of puppies) and we got close and i also helped raise her pup because hey did this before! i will never forget my baby bear.. he would have been one january 7th....he helped me through soooo much in the short time he had on earth. he helped me through my breast reduction and major self growth. he taught me so much and now my cancer♋️ high ass is crying in bed with honey! gonna go cuddle her now

    I am also in college to teach and I am having a very hard time with this as well. I originally started college for social work but quickly realised that it would be draining because there is only so much I am able to do and it would be heartbreaking to see children that I am unable to help. I then switched to an elementary education major and now I don't know what to do. It is going on 6 years now (stopped school for a while when I went through my divorce) and I am about a year away from graduating but I don't know what I am going to do yet.

    As a former teacher…don’t do it! You also get paid crap and treated like trash. Substitute while you go to Graduate School for something else!!! (And buy insurance through your school). Consider Guidance Counseling like Morgan said. Or Library Science. Also consider teaching another age (like Pre-K. For example, I’d work with toddlers instead of preteens again in a heartbeat).

    This first story already kills me. Kids can take on 10s and 100s of thousands in student loans as brand new adults, but colleges dont even have a duty to realistically portray the career or industry they're choosing? That should be literally required prior to kids signing for loans. Just ethically, its insane that most kids dont see the reality of their career until well after the student loan companies and and colleges have siphoned every penny.
    Imagine paying 100,000 for your idea of what a video game system is but you dont really know, and the seller COULD show you it right there before purchase to ensure its what you want, but nah, 4 years later you're contending with a jumanji board game and you don't even get to meet Robin williams. You'd feel a lil swindled.

    The first story, she said it’s her SECOND degree, which implies the last time she got a degree she changed her mind. It almost sounds more like an inability to stick to something, probably at least partially due to not knowing herself and/or the field well enough. You can’t make a career out of going to school. She has two degrees. She should start applying to places she’s considering and do something temporary - 3 months at each place or something - until she finds where she wants to be. But changing her mind right near the end sounds more like it’s something to do with her and not the career

    • @t.ron314

My dad did a year and a half of undergrad, left school to tour with a rock band, lived in Japan as a buddhist monk, came back to the US to finish undergrad and go to medical school, was an ER doc in a trauma center, a prison doctor, and then became a family medicine doctor. At 73 he's still practicing medical hypnosis because he's so passionate about it. I think it's healthy and normal to change your mind and alter course with your career and interests!
