I really wanted the show to end like this: she sees him follows him outside. She recognizes him but can't put her finger on it. Jace tries to walk away and she touches his shoulder also touching his rune. The everything comes back to her. All the memories flash in front of her eyes.(like they zoom into her eye and show 0.1 second clips of things throughout the whole series) Then she remembers him. They smile at each other then kiss. Then she looks down at her hand and her First rune slowly comes back. that's just how id do it if I was the writer
i think that's what their showing in the last smile, that she starts to get her memories back when she touches the rune, atleast thats what I'm going to believe :)

Headcon to make you all have hope: As we all know simon at the end of heavenly fire lost his memory. As we also all know the show sometimes makes stuff happen that is in the books but changes up the characters (Izzy and the heavenly fire). At the end of the show instead of simon losing his memory Clary did. At the very end of heavenly fire simon gets his memory back wich leads me to believe Clary at the end of the show does as well. Everybody complaining about the rushed ending. It’s not their fault they got cancelled. It could’ve ended with Magnus being in Edom and Alec being heartbroken forever. BE GRATEFUL.

She misused the power. They also sent her mother to warn her to stop. Actions have consequences, regardless of the reasons behind them. And in spite of all that, her only punishment was losing her memories of the shadowhunter world for a year? She got off lightly.
I agree, i fully thought they will do that but its still a good ending afterall. I hope there will be a movie in the near future of like what are they doing after everything or something. would be fun
I cried a lot on this last episode. The way Clary killed his brother, the wedding, Clary saying goodbye to his bestfriend, and the moment Jace and Clary admit their undying love for each other. Damn 🥺
Naaahhh. I hated this TV show. I watched the whole thing, but that's not the real story about Clary and Jace. She was never supposed to forget her life as shadow hunter. The final episode should've ended with Clary and Isabel looking for Simon, that was the one supposed to forget everything about the world of shadows. But they recruit him to make him become a shadow hunter. That's because in Jocelyn's wedding (Clary's mom) with Luke, Jonathan kills a big amount of shadowhunters in New York, also destroys the institute on London and all of them have to fight him in Edom, that's when he decided that he wanted Clary to be his queen in Edom (hell). After they kill Jonathan, Clary got to open a portal to the human world and gets back to her mom. Next scene, Magnus communicate with Tessa Grey in the Spiral Maze because when Brother Jeremiah touched Jace's blood during the fight in the wedding, he recovered his human form as James Castairs. Tessa meets with James at a bridge and asked him what happened and how he human and totally cured. Then he answers, "Another Herondale and Lightwood adventure" and explains everything to her. That's how it should have ended. Spoiler Alert: Tessa and James are the real protagonists of shadowhunters. And their story is in a saga of three books where Tessa is the most powerful witch, since she is witch and shadowhunter and the same time and have the ability to shift transform in other people, getting their shape, memories and powers if they aren't humans.

SHOOK BITCH how the books ended? Or relatively similar? Having clary forget about the shadow world was such a lazy ending. Also the reason I commented this was because I remember when I finished the books my freshman year of high school I was sad they were over so I went on watt pad to read fan fictions and there was literally a fan fiction about exactly this. Clary forgetting about the shadow world instead of Simon. Plus ending it with a cliff hanger on the literal last episode is so frustrating and again just poor writing.

I literally cannot describe how perfect the ending was, The lyrics "out of the shadows into the light" playing when they look at each other, the whole scene, the look in their eyes as if they know each other now, their smiles. It was too perfect
I love this scene because the music is scored perfectly. First with Monsters, then War of Hearts and now Where We Come Alive. Ruelle’s music and the writer’s scoring never ceases to give me goosebumps.
Her songwriting and the moodiness of her music did more to inject a sense of personality, epic drama and driving emotions into the show than like 75% of the actual dialogue, sometimes confounding direction or awkward acting. Well done, music supervisors/editors and Ruelle (+ many other musicians well-chosen for the series), you kept me watching a show I didn't even like that much.
I agree. The Other Side was also good as it broke up Clary and Simon's relationship when they were with the Seelie Queen. Fire Meets Fate was amazing as well for the midseason finale (S3a). Literally all of her songs are good!!

also it started with Clary having her memories wiped by her mom/Magnus, and it ended with her having her memories wiped by the angels (and then given back) :) I thought that was pretty nice.

None of us are ready for it to end. I So Want to see more of every character. I started out detesting Maryis, but have come to Love her. Plus, the Union of Magnus, the most important wizard, and Alec, one of the best shadowhunters, gives So Many Possibilities to ALL people in the Shadow world. But Malec is as great a combo as Clace, or Sizzy or Maryis/Luke. Max also brings A Lot to Possibilities as well, the future thru his eyes having a great brother and great brother in law.
Unpopular opinion: I actually LOVE this ending. It’s so bittersweet, and not much dialogue is necessary for us to join the characters on their emotions here. It leaves so much open to imagination, and Ruelle sounding in the background just gives it such a mystic vibe that I absolutely adore. Great job to everyone on the show!

Yes. I think they said they could do five spin offs or something like that. You never know what will happen in the future. Perhaps it's not easy to make a forth season due to the tight schedule of the actors, but perhaps they could do a couple of movies!! 💓
I watched this show within a month, I was hooked. I cried my bloody heart out at this ending. I need to now if she remembers. I don't want random people telling me she did. I want the creators, the actors, someone who does know to tell me. Its been bothering me for ages.
Actually the amount of people in comments saying she did remember just gave me hope. The creators made the ending opened to our own fantasy, but according to the books I truly think, that the main point is same - she remembered :)

So my theory is this, so Clary wrote in her letter that Jace will always be in her heart,no matter what and when she lost her runes there was a pulse (her heart) then Jace never gave up and prayed the angel would forgive clary, so what I conclude is that when she remembered his name that meant she was forgiven and touching jace's rune (next to his heart) there was another pulse and a gleam in her eyes wch means she has her memories back plus she smiled so widely in that second and the song gave the cue. Out of the shadows and into the light so thanks for coming to my Ted talk this is what I will be sticking with
Jace is actually glamoured at this point!! That's why he's so surprised that she can see him, and the angels took away Clary's Sight. To the angels that tried to punish her: Ha.
It was so heartbreaking to hear that Jace goes out every night to watch her and the look on Jace face when Simon told him he needs to stop doing this. 😭 I loved the ending but if I was the one writing the story I would have had Clary touch Jaces Ruin and when she heard the heart beat we would have seen a flash back from the moment they met to the most important moments in their relationship to last time they danced at the wedding she would have than looked up at chase and grinned , he would have grinned back her Ruins would start coming back than the screen would zoom out. That would have been the perfect ending. Netflix so needed to pick up this show. 😢

Jace is a Herondale, the son of Céline Montclaire and Stephen Herondale (you can learn more about them in "Ghosts of the Shadowmarket" and optional book in the chronicles). And she never really loses her memories, Simon does, but he gets them back in TftSA ("Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy", it's another optional book in the chronicles) when he ascends. You should really read the books, I watched only a few episodes of the tv series, and you can't even compare them. The books are a lot better, at least in my opinion, I actually didn't really like this adaptation. Also, their storyline kinda continues after TMI ("The Mortal Instruments", which is the series of books on which this tv series was based, there are six books in it btw) in a series of books called "The Dark Artifices", so you have a lot to read.
It's almost 2022....and I'm still not over this!!!! My mind knows that the probability of getting a new season is almost nil.... But my heart.....badly wants my mind to be proven wrong....

The clace ending really is bad but I saw there was a happy end between malec and sizzy and I think if Netflix would sponsor shadowhunters more and there would be a season 4 clace would have a happy end too.

She definitely remembered because when she lost her runes there was a heartbeat that stopped and then when she touched Jace’s runes the heartbeat started again at 1:31 and then clary gave a knowing smile.

That is exactly what I said. I looked forward to finishing work late at night and waiting for the clock to strick 12 midnight. This is when he little shadowhunters sign on my Netflix account would pop up and I would push it with great enjoyment. There is still so many questions that are still not answered for me.
A multifandom girl 100% can relate. I’m rewatching shadow hunters for the billionth time and it just pains me cause I know how it ends, which is why I keep coming back to this last scene!!!! When I listen to the music I start hyperventilating, screaming and my heart just beats 10000 times faster

I just don’t think it’s fair that the couple who technically the mortal instruments revolves around was the only couple to get an open ending I don’t think it got justice for them
I don't see this as an open ending. Jace was obviously invisible to everyone else, but Clary still saw him. She also remembers his name. From those two things, we know that Clary is going to get her memories back and she is going to become a shadowhunter again.
The producers of the series said they left it like this in the event it was ever picked up in the future. The whole cast is pretty down for a comeback if anyone would have them. Also fun fact the reason why it ended like this with an aerial view, it was supposed to represent the angels watching over them and how their love was stronger than the angels power. It was like a mega fuck you to the angels
Everyone says that the ending is crap. For me, its perfect. Leaving questions that we answer as per our understanding of the show was the best decision than to feed a clear ending. I loved it
People hated it because they wanted a stereotypical happy ever after. This was a harsh ending but a sign clary started to remember, the rest is up to our interpretation like you said.
I know this comment is late and as a result probably nobody will see it, but this show has had such a huge and amazing impact on my life that I have to write this. I read this book series growing up and immediately fell in love with it (Wessa for life). I watched the first season of the show and didn’t completely love it, but I gave it a chance again this year and I fell in love again. The character development, amazing cast, and the beautiful story of love and perseverance, makes it one of my favourite shows. I felt like I related to this show and it inspired my dream of being an actor, which led me to audition for the school play (Lion Witch and the Wardrobe) which I got one of the lead roles as Peter. This show was also the first time I’ve cried about something that didn’t happen to me, at the Malec wedding, the Malec proposal, and when Clary lost her memories, I was bawling my eyes out because both couples (Malec and Clace) fought so hard for their relationship and for Malec to finally marry after what they’ve gone through and when Maryse walking Magnus down the aisle, it was just too much. And for Clace’s relationship to be torn apart and for Jace to watch her every day and Clary finally noticing him, it was just heart-wrenching. I just want to say thank you for this amazing show because you have inspired so many people and this finale was amazing (why did the show get cancelled!). I think Alberto said it right in the “Farewell to Shadowhunters” video. “We didn’t give you strength, we just gave you the opportunity to find it in yourselves. Thank you Shadowhunters for how you’ve impacted my life! Edit: Thanks so much for the likes! This means so much to me!

The reason on why the show got cancelled is because they didn’t have the funding. They never had enough money to keep it going for more then a coupe of seasons.

Jace always prayed that the angels would understand that his love for Clary was stronger than their spite, so the last time he prayed, the angels could have listened, and it was a year and the punishment was too much, so when he went to see her for the last time, the angels slowly returned her memory, otherwise she would not have seen him, let alone know the name! edit: thanks for the likes!!! i miss clace so much :(
Her "punishment" left her free to follow her mundane dream of Art. But, after his hissy fit for breaking the rules again Razeal realized it's a waste to keep the most powerful shadow hunter out of the game. She became an Angel to destroy her brother. Powerful stuff.
sure she was "free" to follow her mundane dream of being an artist, but it wasn't the life that she wanted, she told Simon that after meeting Jace and being introduced to the Shadow world she never wanted to go back to her mundane life again, because she has found her home, she's a Shadowhunter and the Shadow world is where she belongs. So taking away her runes and memories and kicking her out of the shadow world was a cruel punishment for Clary. Many have different theories about why Clary was able to see Jace again, but 1 of the more popular theories is that she was able to see Jace again because their love for each other is strong, stronger than the angel's will and that's why their love brought them back together again, and that was basically confirmed by the producers.

You should read the books then, believe me, they are a LOT better than the tv show, at least in my opinion. Also, their story is VERY different, and * SPOILER WARNING * she never really loses her memories (Simon does actually) and they end up together.

I personally believe she started remembering everything little by little after seeing Jace and the runes, her love for him and the shadow world was epic, the time they fought together Izzy, Alec, Magnus, Jace its a memory for her which cannot be destroyed. I still feel positive about her remembering something from the shadow world because of her lil smile in the end that just makes me think all this, but if i were the producer i wouldnt end it like that, i would let her remember everything and let her and izzy alec jace magnus meet again and like start fighting the demons again

Im still not over this show Shadow hunters was the whole reason i got netflix, The best series i ever red and just amazing The whole concept of the series and the angelic runes gave me hope and strength in highschool when i was in a dark place I really hope they come to their senses and realize that they still have a massive fan base and continue with the series or at least make spin offs from the clockwork series or the newest one

Clary remembers and has to come back. At first I was completely shocked that Clary forgets everything and not Simon. But in the overall picture, a sensible realisation and a successful ending. I still read the books almost once a year.

In the books, she doesnt lose her memory, it's actually Simon who does, but he does vaguely remember and Clary and Jace are still dating.

As we also all know the show sometimes makes stuff happen that is in the books but changes up the characters (Izzy and the heavenly fire). At the end of the show instead of simon losing his memory Clary did. At the very end of heavenly fire simon gets his memory back wich leads me to believe Clary at the end of the show does as well. I cried a lot on this last episode. The way Clary killed his brother, the wedding, Clary saying goodbye to his bestfriend, and the moment Jace and Clary admit their undying love for each other. Damn 🥺

Naaahhh. I hated this TV show. I watched the whole thing, but that's not the real story about Clary and Jace. She was never supposed to forget her life as shadow hunter. The final episode should've ended with Clary and Isabel looking for Simon, that was the one supposed to forget everything about the world of shadows. But they recruit him to make him become a shadow hunter. That's because in Jocelyn's wedding (Clary's mom) with Luke, Jonathan kills a big amount of shadowhunters in New York, also destroys the institute on London and all of them have to fight him in Edom, that's when he decided that he wanted Clary to be his queen in Edom (hell). After they kill Jonathan, Clary got to open a portal to the human world and gets back to her mom.
Next scene, Magnus communicate with Tessa Grey in the Spiral Maze because when Brother Jeremiah touched Jace's blood during the fight in the wedding, he recovered his human form as James Castairs. Tessa meets with James at a bridge and asked him what happened and how he human and totally cured. Then he answers, "Another Herondale and Lightwood adventure" and explains everything to her. That's how it should have ended.
Spoiler Alert: Tessa and James are the real protagonists of shadowhunters. And their story is in a saga of three books where Tessa is the most powerful witch, since she is witch and shadowhunter and the same time and have the ability to shift transform in other people, getting their shape, memories and powers if they aren't humans.

SHOOK BITCH how the books ended? Or relatively similar? Having clary forget about the shadow world was such a lazy ending. Also the reason I commented this was because I remember when I finished the books my freshman year of high school I was sad they were over so I went on watt pad to read fan fictions and there was literally a fan fiction about exactly this. Clary forgetting about the shadow world instead of Simon. Plus ending it with a cliff hanger on the literal last episode is so frustrating and again just poor writing.

I literally cannot describe how perfect the ending was, The lyrics "out of the shadows into the light" playing when they look at each other, the whole scene, the look in their eyes as if they know each other now, their smiles. It was too perfect
I love this scene because the music is scored perfectly. First with Monsters, then War of Hearts and now Where We Come Alive. Ruelle’s music and the writer’s scoring never ceases to give me goosebumps.

Her songwriting and the moodiness of her music did more to inject a sense of personality, epic drama and driving emotions into the show than like 75% of the actual dialogue, sometimes confounding direction or awkward acting. Well done, music supervisors/editors and Ruelle (+ many other musicians well-chosen for the series), you kept me watching a show I didn't even like that much.
I agree. The Other Side was also good as it broke up Clary and Simon's relationship when they were with the Seelie Queen. Fire Meets Fate was amazing as well for the midseason finale (S3a). Literally all of her songs are good!!

None of us are ready for it to end. I So Want to see more of every character. I started out detesting Maryis, but have come to Love her. Plus, the Union of Magnus, the most important wizard, and Alec, one of the best shadowhunters, gives So Many Possibilities to ALL people in the Shadow world. But Malec is as great a combo as Clace, or Sizzy or Maryis/Luke. Max also brings A Lot to Possibilities as well, the future thru his eyes having a great brother and great brother in law.

Unpopular opinion: I actually LOVE this ending. It’s so bittersweet, and not much dialogue is necessary for us to join the characters on their emotions here. It leaves so much open to imagination, and Ruelle sounding in the background just gives it such a mystic vibe that I absolutely adore. Great job to everyone on the show!

So my theory is this, so Clary wrote in her letter that Jace will always be in her heart,no matter what and when she lost her runes there was a pulse (her heart) then Jace never gave up and prayed the angel would forgive clary, so what I conclude is that when she remembered his name that meant she was forgiven and touching jace's rune (next to his heart) there was another pulse and a gleam in her eyes wch means she has her memories back plus she smiled so widely in that second and the song gave the cue. Out of the shadows and into the light so thanks for coming to my Ted talk this is what I will be sticking with

It was so heartbreaking to hear that Jace goes out every night to watch her and the look on Jace face when Simon told him he needs to stop doing this. 😭 I loved the ending but if I was the one writing the story I would have had Clary touch Jaces Ruin and when she heard the heart beat we would have seen a flash back from the moment they met to the most important moments in their relationship to last time they danced at the wedding she would have than looked up at chase and grinned , he would have grinned back her Ruins would start coming back than the screen would zoom out. That would have been the perfect ending. Netflix so needed to pick up this show. 😢

Jace is a Herondale, the son of Céline Montclaire and Stephen Herondale (you can learn more about them in "Ghosts of the Shadowmarket" and optional book in the chronicles). And she never really loses her memories, Simon does, but he gets them back in TftSA ("Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy", it's another optional book in the chronicles) when he ascends. You should really read the books, I watched only a few episodes of the tv series, and you can't even compare them. The books are a lot better, at least in my opinion, I actually didn't really like this adaptation. Also, their storyline kinda continues after TMI ("The Mortal Instruments", which is the series of books on which this tv series was based, there are six books in it btw) in a series of books called "The Dark Artifices", so you have a lot to read.
They'll always come back to each other.

A multifandom girl 100% can relate. I’m rewatching shadow hunters for the billionth time and it just pains me cause I know how it ends, which is why I keep coming back to this last scene!!!! When I listen to the music I start hyperventilating, screaming and my heart just beats 10000 times faster

I just don’t think it’s fair that the couple who technically the mortal instruments revolves around was the only couple to get an open ending I don’t think it got justice for them
I don't see this as an open ending. Jace was obviously invisible to everyone else, but Clary still saw him. She also remembers his name. From those two things, we know that Clary is going to get her memories back and she is going to become a shadowhunter again.
The producers of the series said they left it like this in the event it was ever picked up in the future. The whole cast is pretty down for a comeback if anyone would have them. Also fun fact the reason why it ended like this with an aerial view, it was supposed to represent the angels watching over them and how their love was stronger than the angels power. It was like a mega fuck you to the angels

Everyone says that the ending is crap. For me, its perfect. Leaving questions that we answer as per our understanding of the show was the best decision than to feed a clear ending. I loved it
People hated it because they wanted a stereotypical happy ever after. This was a harsh ending but a sign clary started to remember, the rest is up to our interpretation like you said.
They were always meant to be together, not even the angels can get in the way of their love. It's honestly so beautiful
I know this comment is late and as a result probably nobody will see it, but this show has had such a huge and amazing impact on my life that I have to write this.
I read this book series growing up and immediately fell in love with it (Wessa for life). I watched the first season of the show and didn’t completely love it, but I gave it a chance again this year and I fell in love again. The character development, amazing cast, and the beautiful story of love and perseverance, makes it one of my favourite shows. I felt like I related to this show and it inspired my dream of being an actor, which led me to audition for the school play (Lion Witch and the Wardrobe) which I got one of the lead roles as Peter. This show was also the first time I’ve cried about something that didn’t happen to me, at the Malec wedding, the Malec proposal, and when Clary lost her memories, I was bawling my eyes out because both couples (Malec and Clace) fought so hard for their relationship and for Malec to finally marry after what they’ve gone through and when Maryse walking Magnus down the aisle, it was just too much. And for Clace’s relationship to be torn apart and for Jace to watch her every day and Clary finally noticing him, it was just heart-wrenching.
I just want to say thank you for this amazing show because you have inspired so many people and this finale was amazing (why did the show get cancelled!). I think Alberto said it right in the “Farewell to Shadowhunters” video. “We didn’t give you strength, we just gave you the opportunity to find it in yourselves.

deadly_ panda007 Wessa is amazing and it sucks that they don’t get as much attention as other couples like Clace or Malec because they are from the prequel series.
The reason on why the show got cancelled is because they didn’t have the funding. They never had enough money to keep it going for more then a coupe of seasons.

Jace always prayed that the angels would understand that his love for Clary was stronger than their spite, so the last time he prayed, the angels could have listened, and it was a year and the punishment was too much, so when he went to see her for the last time, the angels slowly returned her memory, otherwise she would not have seen him, let alone know the name!

Her "punishment" left her free to follow her mundane dream of Art. But, after his hissy fit for breaking the rules again Razeal realized it's a waste to keep the most powerful shadow hunter out of the game. She became an Angel to destroy her brother. Powerful stuff.
sure she was "free" to follow her mundane dream of being an artist, but it wasn't the life that she wanted, she told Simon that after meeting Jace and being introduced to the Shadow world she never wanted to go back to her mundane life again, because she has found her home, she's a Shadowhunter and the Shadow world is where she belongs. So taking away her runes and memories and kicking her out of the shadow world was a cruel punishment for Clary. Many have different theories about why Clary was able to see Jace again, but 1 of the more popular theories is that she was able to see Jace again because their love for each other is strong, stronger than the angel's will and that's why their love brought them back together again, and that was basically confirmed by the producers.
@@iamlinda100 yeah, I agree she wanted to be a shadow hunter. But I think she should still pursue art, more so because she has her mothers abilities to hide things into drawings and I bet she could make a badass rune to bring her drawings to life.

I personally believe she started remembering everything little by little after seeing Jace and the runes, her love for him and the shadow world was epic, the time they fought together Izzy, Alec, Magnus, Jace its a memory for her which cannot be destroyed. I still feel positive about her remembering something from the shadow world because of her lil smile in the end that just makes me think all this, but if i were the producer i wouldnt end it like that, i would let her remember everything and let her and izzy alec jace magnus meet again and like start fighting the demons again

The whole concept of the series and the angelic runes gave me hope and strength in highschool when i was in a dark place

Clary remembers and has to come back. At first I was completely shocked that Clary forgets everything and not Simon. But in the overall picture, a sensible realisation and a successful ending.
