I'm so happy to see that we are beating down fatphobia in the piercing industry. There was a time when I wanted my belly button pierced but I never even went for a consult due to the horror stories of abusive fatphobic language toward clients like me that did go for it.
I was so afraid of this so I drove two hours to a studio that gave me the right vibes (and was highly recommended). But there wasn't a word uttered about my weight, he just looked at the shape of my navel and pierced it accordingly
This video made me Realize that my navel piercing was screwed from the beginning. I thought I would be a better candidate for a floating navel but the piercer didn't seem to think much of them and pierced me with a double gem. I had to remove it because it was going to reject. This was a well known piercer....mine was basically a surface piercing
Also she didn't even check my anatomy she basically said I didn't have a lip so they had to make one I'm angry about this I don't even want them to re Pierce me
Exactly the same happened to me! I thought I needed a floating one but the piercer dismissed me. I thought they would have known better, but they didn't because within a month it started rejecting. Duhh cuz there was so much pressure on it. How is the scar tissue for you?
THANK YOUUU!!, piercers have been treating me like absolute crap when i ask about a floating navel as if it’s a problem or they don’t have the jewelry which i understand but being a douche when you’re just not educated on bigger bodies is yucky!! Imma find someone who i can get a floating from!!!
Thank you for you bringing up that weight does not determine if or what type of navel piercing you can get. As a fat person with a closed navel I have been considering a floating navel, but was afraid that I might not be able to get one because I'm fat. ❤️
The way that you take your time to explain with the full patience and attention to detail this body piercing deserves. I love it. I myself was forced to pierce with a double gem even though I asked for a smaller barbell with no big gems on it. I had little knowledge about piercings then, still looking back I intuitively knew better what to pierce my belly with (A LESS CHUNKY PIERCING like a fucking floating navel piercing is). But I was told a double gem was the best way and they wouldn't pierce it with any other jewelry. I am older now, and trust myself and my intuition more. So I will never let myself be told what to do with my body, definitly not by someone who doesn't take the time to communicate it to me. !!!!!!! TIP: Yes your piercer may "know better" in some cases but if they cannot or do not take their time to explain to you why you should or shouldn't do something with your body RUN!!!!! Please!! !!!!!!! I am lucky my belly healed well, although I am still scarred, the damage is not too bad. I am left with a small indent on the bottom from the pressure the jewel created and a very small circle shaped scar on the top. All I can say now is I was right all along.....
I love this video. I had issues with my navel piercing in the late 90d and never got it to heal and then removed it when I got pregnant with my first daughter. Fast forward to today, two of my daughters have been told they need floating navel piercings and they were so sad. I love that you have explained that it’s not a bad thing and gave hope to be able to possibly wear double gems later. Thank you!!
Thank you for this. I never really understood floating navel piercing before watching this video and now I think my anatomy suits this over the double gem. Great message about body positivity too! A lot of us needed to hear that. Personally I’m considering getting a navel piercing because I wanted the to have the same effect my septum piercing did for my nose. I had been insecure of it, but now it has something shiny, fancy, and cute in it.
Thank you so much, I took my navel piercing out yesterday as it started rejecting. I am definitely someone who needs a floating navel as each time I sit down my belly button closes. I am glad to know that I have a chance again, I got the piercing against my parents wishes (I am an adult lol). and I felt a profound loss having to take it out but I hear it will heal better this way. So I can get it again next year :)
Hey if you don’t mind me asking how is it going? I’m in basically in the exact same situation and considering taking out my naval within the next couple days since it seems to be rejecting and I think I should have been pierced with floating naval jewellery:(
This is incredibly informative for my choice off bellybutton piercing. I don't think my stomach is a perfect candidate for belly button piercing, because I have a B shaped belly. But you've been amazing at explaining it and have helped my confidence. You're amazing ! c:
What an absolutely fantastic video. Every piercer should be like you! I wish I'd known about the floating piercing years ago, would have saved a lot of upset and pain. I'm off to see my piercer tomorrow for a consultation. Xx
Thank you! Just got mine today and I had never heard of a floating navel piercing so I thought she did me dirty Hahahahha. She actually did the opposite ! Thank you
Thank you for this!!!✨ I have a tummy and my appetite fluctuates so i was super scared but now I know what to ask for and I'm more confident that there's still a place and jewelry for "non-standard" girlies and pals💜
I don't have the anatomy for a traditional navel piercing but the first time I tried getting my navel done they gave me a surface piercing above my belly button!!! Not even close to being through the belly button. The piercer gaslighted me for so long claiming he did it correctly but I was not buying it and finally just took it out. I went to a different piercer and they told me he did it completely wrong and redid it as a floating navel about a week ago. So thankful I didn't listen to the first piercer 😭
I am so glad to see this. I never thought I could get a belly piercing. But I’m hopeful now. This is the best vid I’ve seen on any type piercing! Thanks
I’m glad you added that it’s not dependent on weight cause that’s what I assumed it was about but I’m fairly skinny so I was confused and a little self conscious. I need a new piercer because we didn’t see what I needed and he just suggested a longer bar (I didn’t believe that) luckily a piercer I saw posted about floating navels on tiktok I just came on this one to make sure it was in right
I got my bellybutton pierced TWICE and BOTH times the piercing got rejected... now I know why... thanks a lot, honestly, every piercer should know that... would have saved me all the money, pain and disappointment... you're amazing 🥰🥰🥰
I think you always always always help me find that I am capable of getting piercings even with my insecurities. I never thought of a navel piercing. Getting a vch scared me. But after watching you I feel like if I want it and have the anatomy I should get it. You're amazing
I was so excited to hear that I could have a second try at a naval piercing, since I had two prior attempts reject. My heart broke when I found out that scar tissue isn’t as strong and it’s likely to reject again. 😢
I would love a fully in depth video about navel anatomy! I'm a new piercer and I am realizing my apprenticeship may have left some things to be desired.
I keep going back and forth on this because so much of navel anatomy needs to be felt. It’s not concepts that I think can accurately be taught without being hands on.
Maybe navel piercing as a floating navel should be the new standard for all navel piercings performed, regardless of anatomy. A double gemmed piece can always be used after the piercing has healed. I wear my inverse navel as a floating navel, and have for years. My navel was made smaller due to endoscopic surgery at 19. The inside part of mine gets the disc in it, the jewel below. Or I wear smaller gemmed balls. (Jan Griffiths).
I was turned away because of my belly. I have a bigger belly and they told me no. It would reject and I couldn’t get one. Never even offered a floating option.
Thank you!! You covered everything so nicely. I’ve always wanted a belly button piercing and finally got one done, but the piercer that did it disregarded my anatomy and did the double gem on me and it was a surface piercing that didn’t heal, got caught and bumped all the time. I got it removed. Now a year later I got it pierced again the right way. Thankfully my scar wasn’t too big and I was able to get it redone I can’t wait for it to fully heal.
I have a consultation booked for later on this afternoon to see if I can have my belly button piercing and after watching this video, I feel more confident that I will be able to get one with a floating navel 🥰 fingers crossed 🦋
Update - I got it! 🥰 my piercer did exactly as was said in this video and I now have a beautiful floating navel piercing that I’m in love with. So worth it. Please go to the right people who know what they are doing! 🫶🏻
I got my naval pierced last year. My stomach folds over onto the top gem and it pushes it down into my skin. He did it like a normal naval but it gets crushed, sometimes embeds and has migrated. I got floating naval jewelry and it feels soo much better. For reference I’m 5’2” and 130 lbs (59 kg)
Could you please do an overview of innie outie and fully outie navels? Although some of the details may not be able to be shown without hands on there is so much conflicting information online and it’s hard to tell what is right
This makes so much sense. I wanted the big gem but now I understand. I just got mine and it’s still sore. I can fill the bottom of the person question a little bit when I sit down but it makes total sense on why because since I have a food enable my belly button closes do you think that will ever go away or do you think because it’s so fresh that’s why it’s more sore than usual
These are the words of affirmation I need but also makes me realize I can prob get a floating. I try as a nurse to always use safe touch and affirming words too.
YAY, long format videos wooo :D tangent: did you know no one is truly certain there are no identical fingerprints? forensic science is a ton of smoke and mirrors!

I'm not sure if this would be the right place to ask, so I apologize if it isn't. Is it possible to never be able to get a navel piercing? I'm a fat person, and I've always been jealous of people who have been able to get this piercing. I got the courage up one time to go to the shop where the person who was piercing that day stood in front of me in the front lobby, had me lift my shirt above my stomach, stared at my belly without actually even measuring or touching anything, & said it couldn't be done because I didn't have a "shelf". I feel like maybe he was just discriminating because of my weight, but I have no way to prove that, & obviously what's done is done now. Is this a normal way to check for viable anatomy, or do you think I should get a second opinion?
Hi, I have a B shaped belly. It's pretty prominent and folds over. I really would like a belly piercing. Can I still get one or there's no way when I have a B/ double belly? I was turned away when I went to ask for a piercing.
@@tashiewilliams6964 if your navel sits inside the fold of the B, or if the pressure from the curvature of the B would cause migration, then it’s not safe for us to do the piercing. :(
I got my belly button pierced like 2 years ago with a traditional double jem piercing and it rejected. I really wanna pierce it again it was one of my favorite piercings. Hoping the floating one may help!
I went to my piercer to get a naval piercing and he absolutely refused to do it because “I didn’t have the anatomy for a naval piercing” now I know I can get one I’m definitely going to get one 😊
i've wanted my belly done for years now i mean YEARS and i finally got the guts to go and my piercer told me i do NOT have the anatomy for a belly ring. she just told me to lift my shirt up and she took one look and told me i don't have the anatomy :( i was so sad but i understood. but...now im confused. she never mentioned a floating naval to me! i do not have an outie belly button and it doesn't close when i sit down.. any advise i would LOVE to hear it 🥹🖤
hi! do you think you could discuss how to spot bad piercers or piercing? i browse a lot of piercer's portfolios and i often don't know what to look for to determine if its a good or bad piercing. thanks !
I had my navel pierced twice traditionally and had 4 years in total, it never healed only to find going to a really reputable piercer after I moved that I didn’t have the right anatomy for a traditional piercing. Wasted my money and time, but am so tempted to try a floating navel, I really miss my piercing.
This came out a little too late for me lol. I just had to takeout an improperly pierced jewelry and now have to wait 4 month. They gave me a surface piercing and I didn't know until I left. So please guys, pay attention to your anatomy and make sure your piercer is being professional.
Ohhh wow I needed a floating navel piercing from the start. Wish there was a way to do a online consultation with you. Would love to know if I can get it again
What would you suggest for someone that got their naval pierced when they were skinny, and now that they’ve gained weight, the piercing looks really high up? Almost as if where the top of the jewelry should sit is where the bottom of the jewelry actually is. 😔
I got my anatomy checked after watching this video because I was tagging along with a friend getting pierced! I have anatomy for a double gem upper as well as a lower. I’m so excited, but I’m going to miss wearing high waisted pants 😔
Thank you so much for this beneficial video. My daughter has a floating navel, but the piercer used a double gem. She is having trouble getting well. I will watch all your videos. Have an excellent life.
I wish this had been more common practice when I got mine pierced 20 years ago. It was constantly irritated and never healed, eventually I gave up and took it out. Looking at the scar now yeah it was basically a surface piercing.
I remember growing up my parents were very against piercings, aside my ears I was only allowed to get my nostril and navel. I never got a navel piercing because I did not like double gem navels and felt like everyone had them. I discovered floating navels a couple years ago and absolutely love them. I definitely prefer them over the double gemmed navels and taking pics and looking at my navel sitting or standing, I don’t have the anatomy for a double gem navel anyways and would need a floating navel. I bet in 2010-2012 floating navels were pretty much not very known and I could have been really scarred if I went ahead with a double gem navel. My issue in getting one now is mostly I’m insecure about my stomach and I wear high waisted pants a lot. I feel really insecure when I wear pants below my navel because my stomach will hang over my pants and it just makes me super insecure.
Hi, thankyou for this. this is so great and helpful. I just have a question, if I was pierced incorrectly with the double gem, and took it out 10 months ago (almost 11 months now) when it started to reject and there is a small scar, would I still be able to get the floating navel. I know you said you probably can't for bad scars but I feel like mine isn't too bad. the scar is completely healed and is hardly even visible. if you need, I can DM you on Instagram with a photo of my navel scar if that would help.
@@Lynn_Loheide Thankyou so much for responding! I am going to see a professional piercer sometime tomorrow to get a consultation to see if I can get the floating navel piercing. I’m so excited
Thank you.... my navle was infected and wouldn't heal for the longest time until I found a Chinese knock off that was shorter.... every time I would sit, it would pock out and get bumped. It finally healed after I went swimming in the ocean for hours and it cleaned it out. Whenever I told my piercer about it thay set it was spposed to be longer because there might be swelli
I am so sad I got mine done and noticed right away it didn’t look right and told the piercer and he said that’s just how it looks on me cus of my stomach. Fast forward 8 months and now it’s rejected and I went to another shop to get it put back and in and they told me that it wasnt correctly pierced for my anatomy and now there’s a scar
is there a reason you use floating navel & double gem navel but say standard/traditional industrial & modified industrial? is it because more people have standard industrial anatomy than "standard"/double gem navel anatomy?
Can u start a video series for apprentices, my boss wants me to watch videos but it’s so hard to find good ones and how some of these old videos tlk weird me out
So. I go back and forth on doing this constantly. On one hand, I enjoy sharing educational content and I know many piercers and apprentices can benefit from learning more from more folks. On the other hand there are tons of piercers creating content for other piercers and very few creating content for clients. Beyond that, I think we as an industry have an issue with expecting education from books, videos, and forums to replace actual hands on education and mentorship and I think it’s become quite dangerous to clients how many piercers forgo proper in person training. I have made a few videos for apprentices and piercers and will likely make some more. But if I ever did fully educational and instructional content…I don’t know if I ever will. If your boss wants you to watch videos they should be pointing you in the direction of piercers whose content they have vetted and trust to contain proper information.
Great information! I think I have floating navel piercing anatomy and mine was done with a double gem. I did experience some migration as a result. What is your opinion on hoops in fully healed belly button piercings? Are they safe or do they tent to cause more problems?
I was told by multiple piercers that I needed the floating navel, however Tanner Bennet was able to get me the double gem, by using a J shaped bar. It healed perfectly, and is exactly the style I was looking for. I'm super happy I took a chance on the J bar, instead of settling for the floating.
I’m so glad you were lucky with that! Unfortunately many clients deal with issues healing with J curves like the bend of the curve pulling into the navel. While some folks do get lucky with certain anatomy many need to heal with a floating navel and then get a j curve once it’s fully healed!
Great video. I've had my navel pierced for almost a year. I'm having a hard time finding floating jewelry. Are there any shops or places you recommend finding floating jewelry?
So if it was too long for her or too short after you had already pierced, what would you do then ? Would you just resize here then and there ? I’m new to piercing and I’m trying to learn the right way !
someone maybe has asked this but... i have a healed naval piercing but would like a floating navel piercing... am I able to get the floating if i have the "regular" navel piercing?
Where can we get additional jewelry for floating navel? All jewelry sites I look on only have traditional navel jewelry and my piercer only has plain white gems
As someone who’s had a double gem piercing for almost 20 years that never closed up after kids I can’t wear my piercing because the pressure hurts. Is there a solution?
Hi I just got a belly button piercing but the bottom part of my gem doesn’t really sit in the well of my belly button if that makes sense. Did my piercer place it wrong? The bottom gem kinda sits right above my belly button. Not really in it.

i've wanted my belly done for years now i mean YEARS and i finally got the guts to go and my piercer told me i do NOT have the anatomy for a belly ring. she just told me to lift my shirt up and she took one look and told me i don't have the anatomy :( i was so sad but i understood. but...now im confused. she never mentioned a floating naval to me! i do not have an outie belly button and it doesn't close when i sit down.. any advise i would LOVE to hear it 🥹🖤
Great video! Thank you for sharing your knowledge! 😊
Can I get a piercing after a tummy tuck? It's been 3 years since I had a tummy tuck.
That’s my question as well..
hi! do you think you could discuss how to spot bad piercers or piercing? i browse a lot of piercer's portfolios and i often don't know what to look for to determine if its a good or bad piercing. thanks !
i love this video so much very informal but where can i buy floating naval jewelry?
I had my navel pierced twice traditionally and had 4 years in total, it never healed only to find going to a really reputable piercer after I moved that I didn’t have the right anatomy for a traditional piercing. Wasted my money and time, but am so tempted to try a floating navel, I really miss my piercing.
This came out a little too late for me lol. I just had to takeout an improperly pierced jewelry and now have to wait 4 month. They gave me a surface piercing and I didn't know until I left. So please guys, pay attention to your anatomy and make sure your piercer is being professional.
this is helpful because i was wondering whether or not i would need a floating navel piercing!
That was so informative.
Have an excellent life.
this is perfect! im getting mine done soon :)
I wish this had been more common practice when I got mine pierced 20 years ago. It was constantly irritated and never healed, eventually I gave up and took it out. Looking at the scar now yeah it was basically a surface piercing.
i have a question, once it heals am I able to change it into a tradition navel jewelry
they answer this at 17:50 :)
Thanks Lynn! Someone on /r/piercing recommended your video, I watched it yesterday, and today went to change my double-gem to a floating.
I’m planning on wearing a lot of sundresses while I’m healing mine if that’s up your alley!
This was a great video! Thank you! It was very informative and explained in a great way!
Awesome informative video, thank you
Very knowledgeable. Thank you
Thank you Lynn! You're a gem
Super informative!! Thank you.
Great video!
I have an outtie belly button and am wondering if I can get it pierced.
I need someone exactly like you to pierce my floating navel again the right way but in Germany 😅🙈 Loved your video! Thank you so much ♥️
Hi, thankyou for this. this is so great and helpful.
Totally depends on the scar! You’ll want to get it assessed in person by an experienced piercer who can see what your choices will be
@@Lynn_Loheide Thankyou so much for responding! I am going to see a professional piercer sometime tomorrow to get a consultation to see if I can get the floating navel piercing. I’m so excited
Omg I love u as a piercing person
can you do a video on medusa piercings? im dying to get one but i’m not sure about the healing and effects it has
This makes me want to get my navel pierced. So helpful!
Where do you buy the floating rings. They have some but very limited.
whats the Length of the labret? thank you. usually what mm you use?
Totally depends on anatomy. Anywhere from 12mm-20mm is common.
I cannot find a reputable place in Florida that does these! Do you recommend a good place? Thank you!!
Sweet leaf!!
I wish you were here in Atlanta!!! 🥰😍🥰
is there a reason you use floating navel & double gem navel but say standard/traditional industrial & modified industrial? is it because more people have standard industrial anatomy than "standard"/double gem navel anatomy?
What are your opinions on putting double Gems in a healed floating navel?
If it’s well healed and the anatomy permits it’s fine! There’s even variations on the double gem like J curves that are designed for floating navels.
Please make a video on belly Peircing marking and how to do that i wanna learn that so please make it
Content like that is on my patreon
So if it was too long for her or too short after you had already pierced, what would you do then ? Would you just resize here then and there ? I’m new to piercing and I’m trying to learn the right way !
Do you mean if you pierced a clients navel and the jewelry you chose and installed ended up too long or too short for the initial piercing?
So if I get a floating navel piercing now and once healed, a double gem jewelry can fit afterward? Or would the piercing/fit be different?
I think it just depends on your anatomy, and you would have to figure that out with your piercer.
someone maybe has asked this but... i have a healed naval piercing but would like a floating navel piercing... am I able to get the floating if i have the "regular" navel piercing?
Yes- it will just need to be fitted for your anatomy!
Please more naval content
Where can we get additional jewelry for floating navel? All jewelry sites I look on only have traditional navel jewelry and my piercer only has plain white gems
this look is iconic.
As someone who’s had a double gem piercing for almost 20 years that never closed up after kids I can’t wear my piercing because the pressure hurts. Is there a solution?
Does the way you pierce, depth, length of jewellery etc differ from a traditional two gem navel piercing?
This is a complex answer that is both yes and no. I wish it were something that could be explained in a RUclips comment but it’s a lot 😅
@@Lynn_Loheide I would love to see a follow up video explaining the differences in the actual piercing process 🙂
Hey I have my piercing done and it is almost 3 months not fully healed can I switch from a double gem to floating?
Hi I just got a belly button piercing but the bottom part of my gem doesn’t really sit in the well of my belly button if that makes sense. Did my piercer place it wrong? The bottom gem kinda sits right above my belly button. Not really in it.
Without seeing photos I can’t say for sure but the bottom of your navel piercing should sit inside your actual navel.
Can the floating navel piercing be done after a tummy tuck? Please respond. Thank you. 😊
That depends on how you heal post tummy tuck! Many post op navels are not able to be repierced with any version safely.
