- The grieving family of the toddler who fell to her death off a cruise ship in Puerto Rico is opening up about how the tragedy unfolded. Little Chloe Wiegand, who was 18 months old, died Sunday when she fell 150 feet from the Royal Caribbean ship Freedom of the Seas to the dock below. One detail in contention? The family says the girl's grandfather Salvatore Anello, aka Sam, didn't drop her, as local officials have suggested. Their attorney told Inside Edition she fell through an open window. #InsideEdition

beverly a because why not? Who thought that could happen?
The cruise released video footage of the incident after the family sued. The grandfather lied about not knowing the window was open. The video shows him leaning on the window frame and even poking his head out looking around. Then after that he placed the poor little girl on the railing. After the judge saw the video footage, the family’s lawsuit was thrown out of court. I have no idea what made this man put the baby in danger when he knew the window was open. This was a preventable tragedy. Poor child.
I like to go in with an open mind about things but after watching his interview and the actual footage of him lifting her up after the fact he actually stuck his head outside the ship (say colorblind all you want but anyone with working nerves and ears can feel and hear air especially on the open seas at 17 floors up) and dangled her out the window... maybe he didn’t think she was going to die but something was fishy about the whole thing.. maybe he knew the window was open and he thought he would have held her there and she just slipped.. either way if not calculated on his part then just very stupid and neglectful and he should be held responsible
Yeah it’s all very suspicious
Plus the fact during investigation there was footage of him actually going up to that window and looking out before then walking away and then going back before the accident proving he knew it was open, just a blatant tragic accident but then lawyers get involved and its someone else's fault, at what point do we hold ourselves accountable for our actions (human error), the window was to high for a child to fall out open or not the second he lifted her "His responsibility", he had already been in that spot once he should of remembered it was opened.
He was also not her real grandfather
He should be held responsible but not charged because he didn’t do it purposely
Yeah I think he knew the window was open but wanted the child to “experience the ocean breeze” which was an extremely stupid idea
They always let her bang on glass windows so it's the ship's fault? In what world does this make any sense?
mylittlegator they could have made it less possible for someone to fall out.. I was on a recent cruise, and they had windows 2 body lengths everywhere.. not taking a chance.. I don’t think it was anyone’s fault.. but I definitely think there should not be open windows.

I was on the cruise ship for my graduation present :( love going out to the family. I am sorry for your loss.
Man…I get so emotional over my baby nephew that turns 2 years old next week…I can’t even imagine how I’d feel if it was my own kid. My heart goes out to this family
1:11 it is windows floor to ceiling , she could have looked out and banged on the windows at her height there wasn’t a need for her to be standing on the railing to bang on them
hd- yes, exactly. I saw that too. This just isn't making any sense..hmm.😒
Right. I would go even further and say there’s no reason for her to be banging on the glass end of story.
Children want to be up at grown-ups' hight all the time. Mine did. So I often lifted them up so they could feel 'big'. I can understand this situation entirely, exept for the 'letting go for one second'-part. Even if the windows were closed, she could have fallen off backwards and hurt herself. But I believe he will ask himself the same question a miilion time a day from now: WHY?
she was little and maybe she’d run away so he held her at his waist level so he’d have control. The real question is why put a railing over the “window” and not have a sign indicating it was open to the ocean?
@@silentstellarechos , she's a baby.
Does anyone find it weird that the father started taking pictures of the windows after his daughter falls out of it to her death? I would be too grief stricken to even thing about taking pictures
KSMaxiefan01
Exactly. This has been highly suspicious from the get go.
This tragedy happened during daylight hours before 1:30pm. That picture they show in this clip was taken way after the tragedy happened.
*i want to see video tape of the tragedy. With just that, I could solve this without a doubt in the blink of an eye*
KSMaxiefan01 I think he was already thinking that it would be the evidence he would need to built a case against the cruise ship.
I don’t think I would be able to stand up from grief let alone take pics. If that’s true. Sounds strange.
This is absolutely horrid! I can’t even begin to imagine this level of pain for everyone involved. 😢
Omg that’s horrible 🥺 i feel so bad for the family and especially for the grandfather🥺 rip sweet little girl
So he LIFTED her up to the railing....otherwise she wouldn't be able to reach that open window from the ground all by herself could she? I'd say it's case closed.
Unless the family expects "caution, open window" on every open window in a public place...
The Anne what
Not the cruise fault, just dumb Anello here
Very very very good point! 😊👌
Well to be fair he didn’t know it was open. He has to deal with the guilt of it and when you get older your eyes along with all other senses get worse. He probably couldn’t have seen that it was open and what if it was at night? That would have made things worse. Try putting yourself in their shoes.
I’m sure this was an accident. But why would you put a child up on a rail to bang on a glass window? Especially unsupported. I can’t understand that at all. Firstly it’s totally common sense, unsafe. Secondly it’s absolutely rude behavior to encourage in public. Poor baby.
He thought the window was closed so I’m sure he wasn’t expecting her to fall out. Granted you’d think he’d notice it’s open when the girls hands went through the imaginary window before he let her go. But then again I wasn’t there
Was she maybe saying hi to her parents and siblings??? Maybe? If the grandpa was watching her, he could have been baby sitting. He could have been chasing a toddler all day and was so exhausted and he didn't think clearly.
Whatever happened, the torture this poor grandpa is putting himself through is much greater then any punishment or court case against him.
Ilovesesshomaru! sama but the open or closed window is only one reason for it to be unsafe. Why would you stand a child on a railing that is attached to even a solid wall? People don’t do that, because it’s unsafe. A baby as small as she is shouldn’t be set on any place that high and left unguarded. And banging glass at a hockey event is a far stretch from banging on glass windows. I can only recall one person I’ve seen in public who allowed their child to bang on windows. It was in a restaurant and I remember thinking what a horrible mother she is for not stopping the child. Firstly it’s so rude to everyone around you and secondly it’s not safe to hit glass 🤷🏻♀️
guardians animal rescue/ state certified 501c3 I agree that the grandfather is probably tormented over the event. But bottom line, we hold people accountable for things they do by mistake if it’s criminally negligent. This would certainly rise to that degree but unless something comes out that show there is more than stupidity at play I wouldn’t think charges with any jail time would be appropriate.
I thoughts exactly! Wouldn't you at least be holding on to her???this is just ridiculous
Omg how horrible so sorry for your loss
I can’t imagine that split moment where it happened… unthinkable, simply horrifying.
Wasnt a kids play area and the videos will prove everything. Shameful that theyre trying to get money out of this.
Blame anyone but the man responsible. Cruiseships cannot babysit everyone.
You would do the same thing, ALSO THEY LOST A KID YOU FOOL. YOU LOSE SOMEONE DUE TO A MIS MANUFACTURE AND DONT SUE
@@circleguyproductions4395 People die in the national parks every year because they get to close to the edge of a cliff and fall to their deaths. Some people make stupid choices and pay the price. Grandpaw made a dangerous decision and unfortunately the baby died.
lana thank you👏🏼👏🏼
If an adult climbed up on that handrail like he put her there, there would be no lawsuits against the cruise line.
All them damn windows and he choose THAT ONE!??
I believe he held her out the window. Out of all the windows he went to the open one and 'couldnt tell' it was open?
Eliza Marie Same here. Just like Whacko Jacko did with Blanket at that hotel. Only gramps dropped her. Careless and stupid.
There were multiple windows open and it was easy to tell which ones were opened or closed. I was there.
It’s called a mistake smh
He must have seen the clear window and thought that was a nice one so she could see better. It didn't occur to the dolt that the 'nice one' was an open window
I feel so bad for the whole family rest in peace!!💓
Omg this is so devastating!!!! Poor baby girl
Awe man... He looks so friendly though.
I would not be able to be in his situation, oh my lorddd
Still hoping the family will get through this, good luck ✌️💕
It was an accident. There is nothing to say that he ISN'T friendly.
Piragua guy you do know he didn’t PURPOSELY drop her right?? He’s not an evil man. It was an accident that ended in a tragedy.
@@flxwercxrpse1871 I know, that's what I pointed out in the video before. e.e
@@alaurahwillow155 shut up
Why would he lift her up to bang on a window that’s not supposed to be banged on
He probably lifted her up to see the view out the window..and banging is just what 2 year olds do.
Cause hockey, thats why
Thank u why he do that I wouldn't even let my child near a glass like that grandad probably took a cruise before why didn't he check the glass??? I would for sure
Exactly. If the ship was moving he should have felt an obvious draft coming from it right?
stop looking for excuses, the grandfather has suffered enough and you'll probably understand when you're much older. your eyesight fails, your mind deteriorates so you forget things more easily and all your senses decrease. they're not what they used to be. it's part of being old for most people, it just happens though unfortunate. also, of all the windows, one is open? that's just a setup for disaster.
It’s awful that stupidity or ignorance leads to innocent death and then people try and blame others smh poor little girl.
So sad, prayers.
I don't buy it! They were on a cruise ship! Loud blowing wind doesn't blow in your face from a closed window!
They weren't moving and the window wasn't completely open. It was basically just unlocked.
@@edwardmccree3648 IDK what he was thinking.
@@justpeachy2738 Even if it was locked, I wouldn't ever put a baby on a railing and let go of her!
Edward Mccree tell me why would he want to do it they even explained WITH a video stop tryna hate on him for no reason
I think she leaned against it and pushed it open. He never should have let her go. She was already elevated off the ground. Why would you let the child go? If he was holding her she would not have fallen.
At 48 seconds into this video, the man says, He Let Go Of Her For A Second and then she’s gone. …Grandpa should’ve not let go at all .
Me too prayers for this grandfather . I feel sooo bad for him .
poor grandfather he must feel the worst - and will feel like this forever . poor thing
