I’m Saudi and this is sad actually. But this is not like a law or something. It’s more the company he’s in. Because in Saudi we always talk about the infrastructure and that’s why 2030 happening. Knowledge is a key, not just you can comment on infrastructure you can do something about it. The government made an app where anything you see that has issues from road/build damage to service, you can report it. I lived in the US for 11 years until now, there is nothing close to the service you get in KSA.
Stop by "you can't speak freely" it's overused. The guy was stopped by his PR company.
Been an expat in Saudi for more than 20 years. There is some truth about poor planning and infrastructure, but I believe they are doing what they can to improve its infras. Just look at the airport in Jeddah. The society is rapidly changing and I believe it is for the better.
They better be especially the people if they stay conservative and dogmatic on their approach in Islam they would be in ruined especially they prioritize the tourism these days

@@DivineSurrender-op3bc this is late, but our government is focusing on tourism primarily because the majority of our citizens tour overseas, the goal is to make people spend their money domestically so they can benefit from it but tourism is also viewed as a viable source of income (i don't agree though considering one plague can put you in debt)

King Faisal’s infrastructure plans from the 60’s still exist in Riyadh. While it was good but not up to date.

It’s all amazing to create a circus and attract money, to sustain this and lure the investors, but if you can’t be critical of what is taking place, how progressive is it truly.
Norway is a country, which is invested in many aspects of industry, much like Saudi, but it you wouldn’t think twice about saying what you think there.
Naturally I know, Norway and Saudi are different very different countries, but they do have many similarities.
In saying all of this, i would still be willing to visit Saudi, purely for it flora and fauna, I know a lot of new hiking trails are being created as we speak, that’s exciting, along with the Red Sea projects.
We are not a mob or a stupid government ,who wants to criticise can in the places allocated and complain what he wants he can , but to scream and do what the monkeys do it is unacceptable
Let’s not fool ourselves that there are only a few countries with freedom of speech such as USA and a few European countries. Most countries the freedom of speech is very limited and sometimes that’s the only way you can move the country forward such as China and then you can open up the freedom of speech as the country makes more progress.

Trust me, freedom of speech is not even an issue to Saudis. They have their own channels and systems. You can literally report whatever you don't like from an app directly to the royal office, and a response will reach you in 48 hrs. I tried it but different office for collage acceptance problems.

As a Saudi myself, I say Dubai & Doha’s infrastructure is ahead of ours and that shouldn’t be offensive to say - we’re less than a decade into our development, they had their development decades ago and I firmly believe that we’re gonna be ahead of them in due course (This is also what the British guy had said too)

@@buttofthejoke Hijab is no longer mandatory for women, they’re only asked to wear modestly (Not revealing too much skin ie. short skirts, tight shirts that reveal the outlines of the chest etc)
And as for LGBTQ, there are rumours now about Liquor Stores being allowed, so I would not be surprised if LGBTQ will no longer be criminalized in Saudi and will be accepted in the country. But similarly to the no mandatory hijab rule for women, I assume there’ll be a caveat (I assume it will be to not show LGBTQ flags, shirts, armbands etc).
Saudi is a Muslim country and it's people should not be interested in western morality because the west is a moral infant but a technological giant. Yes we want to diversify and enhance our economy but with a Muslim flavor.

I want to say that you did a wonderful job at covering all aspect of the topic in hand.
I am an American who learned about Saudi from American media basically. I married a Saudi expat who lived in Saudi for about 20 years. She changed many of my view towards Saudi. I visited Saudi Arabia a few times and except for a few things almost everything looked normal like every other country that I visited. For a country pushing for tourism, most of their airport staff didn’t speak a word of English which I found was odd. But hey I got picked up by a woman Uber driver in Abaya which showed to me progress.
As far as the scandals of the country, it’s your job as a journalist to point out an authoritarian regime and you did a wonderful job at calling out Jamal’s murder. But a lot of people pretend that’s unique for Saudi it’s not. I don’t mean to do whataboutism but look what we did to Edward Snowden, Julian Assange, Chelsea Manning etc. We fire people for being Maga or Dem or Pro Palestinian. We ruin peoples lives for that. Yea Saudi Royals are above the law but so is our 1%. Again I don’t mean to do whataboutism but many journalists act as it Saudis are the only one doing this which is subtle racism. I don’t mean to defend an authoritarian regime but here I am doing it for a weird reason. I liked it the fact that you pointed it out when it came to that PR firm.

OVERBUILDING IS NOT GREAT
Saudi Arabia has a poor record of building infrastructure. They plan something then keep delaying it. It is hard for investor to trust them. Riyadh Metro and Jeddah Tower is the prime example which are delayed and not completed yet.
And what about the Millions of projects that have been done? In every country there's some sort of delays in mega projects.
LOL, its like if Saudi Arabia only had those two projects. There are hundreds of other projects that were completed like KAFD, KAED, the new jeddah airport, holy mosques expansions, alharamain train, SAR train and so on.
Few projects were completed in Saudi Arabia with huge delay. Both of you should see how ahead is UAE and Malaysia in term of infrastructure projects compared to Saudi Arabia. Malaysia is not even rich as Saudi Arabia still they are so much developed. Unfortunately Saudi Arabia is way behind. It will takes decades to compete.

I think we should’ve compare Saudi with its city state gulf neighbors, The change in Saudi Arabia is massive its a long term systematic reform, not just economically but also in terms of religious reform which will have an effect on the Middle East particular and the Muslim world in general. It’s truly the beginning of new era as younger generations like millennials and gen z takeover the running of society.

I have never thought average Saudi citizens are wealthy. Am I mistaken?
Obviously not, everyone is insanely wealthy, but everyone is more than comfortable, and if you want to build wealth, weather by starting a start-up or in my case being a a film director you’ll get all the support you need from the government. I applied for financial support from the Ministry of film and culture and I got budget of 500,000 to make my first short film and I’m only 19 , so really, it’s up to you

I like this video. I am not sure how th3 2030 vision will be implemented. Usually, such radical change should also be reflected upon the people of a country, not just driven by governmental aspirations. My personal opinion after having visited Saudi twice on business is that there is a lot of talk about social changes but the core of Saudi life remains unchanged with a lot, but a lot, to improve. Let's see what happens
all these new buildings and infrastructure is meant largely to the western people whithout even convincing mostly its own citizens but the question is market of less than 50M with alot of restrictions and largely different culture and religion can western people and businesses even consider to be there when all these cashcow money dried up?
