yes, it's big , heavy and interesting. I might try and squeeze in another transport, it all depends on the connecting cables and what they do. A lot of investigation is required. Someday!

BTW, I actually have it back as the laser assy finally gave the owner the irrates. I might have another go at the laser assy (finding a current adjustment) or using the case for a DIY project

Das Problem beim Mephisto scheint die Modifikation des Sanyo Laufwerks zu sein. Wenn das einmal Probleme gibt ist es aus. Ich kenne nur einen Menschen in Europa, der helfen kann.
Ralph Kassel in Deutschland. Er baut ein neues Original Sanyo Laufwerk ein. So hat es bei mir geklappt.

The owner still found it unreliable and decided to scrap it. HE GAVE IT TO ME so I can use the case to put in the new phono preamp I'm building, it might make a nice case for it.
If anyone needs the electronics or the transport for repairs please message me and perhaps I can help you. ATM I have no plans to repair it with a new CD transport.

The switch is some sort of safety interlock override, likely due to the proprietary transport not having appearing to have a powered door.

I had a similar problem with my Mephisto II, which did not find the zero position of the laser. Did you change the drive belt of the laser positioning unit? The old one is hardened and slips during positioning. I replaced it by a standard rubber ring and it works fine again.

I can't recall. I should have checked such an issue. I now have it as a junk item, perhaps I will have another go at it next year. Ta.

May I ask if this machine does have a digital servo board? Or is it all automated as in many newer transports/machines? If it does have adjustable servos, then you may look them up and see if they are out of sped, and readjust them with a scope, tonegenerator and a multimeter. I think that often people clean lasers with strong chemicals, when some times the lasers optics are plastic and will haze unclear, as in being damaged. Glass lasers are far better in this respect. I don't know the Mephisto II's type of laser though.
    Thanks for sharing.
Btw. I like the way you do videos on reel to reel, which is something I am ready to get into. Pref. an Akai 635/635/646/747 or maybe the Sony 765 or the Teac you worked on in 4 videos.
    Kind regards.
Edit: looks like there are plenty of pots to look into the servo systems.

      Thanks for your comments.
If it were mine then perhaps I may have looked into it further. I only charged a bottle of wine for this work. To be honest, it doesn't really interest me, I prefer analogue stuff.
It was a handy thing for a new video which I'm not able to do many vids atm. My entire hifi is turned off and boxed up.
I'm purposely only working on TEAC R2Rs to keep my experience honed and dedicated. However, I do have a Revox G36 that would look really nice to see going and it's a 2 track type: it would be perfect for my upcoming quad retro setup. Fortunately, there is a great Revox spare parts store here in Oz (Sydney).
Probably the only digital audio thing I have on my list is updating my Denon DVD2900 with some "audiophile" mods and perhaps changing the laser (if needed). I bought a spare laser 2 years ago just in case.
I have made about 4 servers using UnRaid, #1 my personal documents/photos server, #2 music server, #3 TV shows server and a #4 Movies server. I use Plex atm but I may change to Roon or some other s/w for music later. A quick vid about their setup is on the bucket list.
In the past I also did a vid about using the Intel NUC for AV. When I fully setup my Atmos system it will come into force using my movies server (Plex?).
      So much to do. 😞

That's possibly the worst CD player I've ever seen. Everything about it screams snake oil- the design fixes zero engineering problems whilst introducing a hundred more. CDs are not vinyl records and CD players don't need to be like turntables.
