When I was pregnant I put a few drops of lavender oil in my bath and got a chemical burn... on my butt... your sensitivity changes with a lot of things while pregnant and I learned that the hard way lol
I make soaps... it’s a passion... safety is CRUCIAL. Lye hurts... BAD!! I use infused and essential oils... critical to know safe usage rates. I also use herbal teas as the liquid portion in my soaps. Which can be much easier than measuring safe amounts or taking the time to infuse oils. Lots of great info here! Thanks for sharing!
I was waiting for you to say "do your research!" 😂 But the whole video was about it, so I guess it would have been redundant. I loved this video, very informative!
I definitely agree with the caution for essential oils. I looked up spray-on fabric softener because I was in the middle of crocheting something with cotton balls inside, which meant I couldn't put it in the washer. All the results were a "laundry detergent replacement" made of vinegar and essential oils. Ran like the plague.
First video I’m watching on your channel , I love how the two of you are interacting and informative. Thank you for putting great content on here! Hugs and love
Queen Anne's lace, cilantro, dill all have similar flower structures; I know this from growing all of the above. I also have yarrow in my yard, can't say that yarrow looks anything like the aforementioned herbs.
I love the videos I can learn something I find interesting. 😅 herbalism is definitely one. I am waiting for some *more* badass astro videos though 😂 Much love Nike!❤❤
Calendula is a favorite of mine as well. I have a soap that I use and I adore it. It's gentle and effective. I've used the soap for the last two tattoos that I've gotten and it's healed them in half of the time!
I have a Wich's Compendium Book on house cleaning and stuff. A few of the floor washes and hair care that they tell you to make uses a lot of essential oils...ones that are bad for you 🙃 I try and switch up the recipes so that I'm not using essential oils as after I've learned that you can get chemical burns and potentially hurt your pets (especially ones that like to lick wet surfaces) I try and not use them unless I know they are not going to be used to clean myself or the house. I think there was one for dish washing detergent that said use any citrus essential oil 😬
Most (but not all) essential oils are fine, as long they are only used externally, and in small amounts (typically 1% of your recipe). It's good to be careful and it's important to do your research, especially when there are pets involved, but don't listen to fearmongers. Just don't ingest them, don't use them undiluted on your skin (the only exeption to that would be lavender oil), and stay away from cinnamon oil, cos' that stuff is VERY irritating. Citrus oils are a bit complicated. They can be irritating and cause allergic reactions, so you shouldn't be making skin care full of them, but a couple of drops of lemon eo in your dish washing detergent? That should be totally fine. Calves, halves, and salves...🍂🍂🍂 Valves and salves 🍁🍁🍁 Hemlock has reddish dots on the stem and the crushed leaf stinks of mouse pee. I don't understand how any intelligent person would want to eat it.
What I hear is that foraging anything is basically the same as picking mushrooms (which I have done since I was little), if you are not sure, that means you don't know and don't pick it.
LOVE foraging. I did once observe a mushroom for about three years before being sure it actually was what I thought it was. But I'm always super careful about mushrooms especially.
Same, when I wasn't I got SJW to work for me about a month then it pooped out, but while it worked I have never felt such a clean happiness and anxiety relief it was like Xanax without the bad side effects.
ok listen, I use peppermint & lavender oil to help with my migraines (as well as medication, you know, medication is useful) and I have also made the mistake of rubbing my eyes. it's very sad
Botchy red blotches on stems of hemlock this isnt on queen annes lace wild carott, also wild carrot has hairs on the stem, and a little dot of black or mauve on the flower of some of the flowers, this isnt on hemlock
Hello! I am the person guesting with Nike here. I have no credentials in terms of medical science. I am not a doctor or any sort of funky naturopathic practitioner. I allude to such in the video. Despite this, I have always loved to heavily research herbalism topics and understand the underlying chemistry, pharmaceutical interactions, and how to help soothe things with herbs in conjunction with proper medical needs.
This was very informative. Thank you.

I’m wanting to get my own herbs from other places besides the store so this video is an excellent introduction

I can’t use St. John’s Wort because I am on antidepressants and antipsychotics…

Yup SJW can cause serotonin sickness which may be life threatening if taken with SSRI antidepressants.
Thank you for video
A good sign you have wild carrot is to look for the dark coloured (I think purple) "flower" in the centre of the white blooms.

Together we suffer
Nike: Mother Nature! 👍🏼
Me: *looks up suddenly* Hey!
Noooooo don't take my chilies lol
btw - I BURNED my skin, and it left a scar, with cinnamon essential oil that got on my hair tie and I put it on my wrist.

I'm curious what your credentials are though? I hope that's not offensive.
