I enjoy winning as much as the next person, but I'd much rather have fun while losing than being bored while winning.

Yes. Sadly, it took me decades to learn this, but I now value the experience more than the results.
Throughout all of my youth and the first couple of decades of adulthood, I was a cut-throat player who not only wanted to win, but to make my opponents go home crying in humiliation. While I enjoyed winning, the play was more work than enjoyment.
Now, while I rarely win (maybe one in ten, if that), I enjoy gaming far more than I ever did when the priority was to dominate.

For sure, but you can also have fun while winning :) depends on attitude

I am the one in our friend group that introduced everybody else to board gaming and made them fall in love with it ( or at least tolerate my constant new additions :)). I also preffer mid/heavy euro games. My win rate within the group (all casual players) is about 5-10% It has become a running joke by now and I wouldn't want it any other way :D It is about spending quality time ! You always have BGA to be competitive. I suck there also.

That’s a beautiful chess set!! Can see how much effort went into this video, must have taken a while to set up each scene especially with setting up so many mid-game shots

So much prep went into this video! I think there were 12 different games that you set up on the table as if you were mid-play (if I counted correctly?) That, combined with the humor throughout, made this video a real delight! Great job on this one, sir. :)

In my experience, yellow color meeple in carcassonne gave me at least 80 % chance of winning. Thats my way to increase luck of winning by 80% 👍😀

One of your best videos yet! And it came at just the right time, seeing as I just had a board game weekend with 2 friends and won 2 out of 12 games 😫
As for tips, I'm probably not one to preach, but some of mine are:
    1. If you're playing a VP salad game and one of those massive point scoring cards/objectives comes up that's difficult but gets you 59 points, GET IT!
    2. Yes you have asymmetric player powers, but don't let it determine your strategy. Just because orcs are fighty doesn't mean that's all you should do.
    3. Never never never forget end game objectives, like the ones in Anachrony or awards in Terraforming Mars (I am very guilty of this and it nearly always costs me the game)

You guys are the best! Found your channel couple of months ago (searching for a Nemesis review) and I am hooked ever since. Amongst a lot of other games, I got Nemesis and Eldritch Horror (and two expansions) thanks to you guys!
Take care, and greetings from the Netherlands!
PS: Have you guys heard about Arcs and, if so, whats your opinion on it?

Firstly, I just want to say I discovered you guys recently, and I absolutely love your content, style, production value and energy!
But also, have you guys considered reviewing (I know you reviewed Sky Team) or discussing the nominees for Spiel des Jahres 2024?
At least I'd love to see you guys review Daybreak (Kennerspiel des Jahres). I love the way you guys break down your review into questions, it makes it a lot more helpful when deciding whether to get a game.
P.S.: I'd love you guys to bring back the "how many players" questions from older vids. At least if you guys could say if it works just as well with only two players. Most of the time I only have my girlfriend to play with (until I adopt Janis G.'s strategy of breeding gamers), and some games just are as tense/fun with two players.

Such a great video! I agree. You and me love Eldritch Horror, so you know when I say to other players, “No, we’re not going on an expedition, we’re solving the GD mystery. No, we’re not parking in Buenos Aires to learn arcane rituals, we’re focusing on solving the GD mystery.” 😂

"Labyrinth of Unicorn Puke" !? =D
I hope not too many people I play with watch this, I like to win.

Don't care about winning that much anymore. However, in competitive games when someone is hopelessly too far behind it becomes a bit sad.
But the video... That was on the next level :D Keep up with your great ideas!

Great video! The social part can be really important, many games have an element of bluffing, as you don't usually know what are your opponent's plans and resources. While I just like playing and don't need to win all the time, I still really enjoy trying new strategies and having that feeling of competitive fun as you try to outsmart the other players

    • @LanguageMaus
      @LanguageMaus 2 месяца назад

if the game allows that and it's not cheating, then I simply consider it part of the experience :) and it's also ok if you are not into head to head games with mean player interaction, there are plenty of chill games where this can't really happen because it's not in the design
