A lot of electronic "bike horns" that sell on Amazon and eBay claim they are "120 dB" or louder, but unfortunately, that's only when the sound is 1). measured directly in front of the device, 2). measured at a distance of less than 3 inches, 3). on a full battery charge. Also, 120 dB at the ear is supposed to be physically painful. If the horn doesn't hurt to the point that your eardrums literally hurt for a second, then that's not 120 dB.

For sure like alot the numbers are inflated but it’s definitely louder then most that’s on bikes

@@Gear_Now I guess I'll have to experience it in person. I do have a bicycle anti-theft alarm that's from Amazon and it's fairly loud. Depending on the environment, my tests with a sound meter reads 89 dBA in a reverberant environment at 10 feet distance with the alarm set to high volume, which is quite loud.
But bicycles are typically in an open environment so the sound level quickly tapers off with distance. The same test I did outdoors netted in a result of 82 dB peak. As the battery voltage decreases (from low temps, normal use, etc), the loudness also decreased. I did yet another test after 6 months of daily use and the volume came in at 72 dB at high volume, outdoors, at 10 feet.
Since bikes are outside in an open environment (and likely in one polluted with noise at approx. 70-90 dB), it makes sense to have a warning device be loud enough to cut through a potentially noisy environment and ultimately be heard by nearby people (especially inattentive ones).
I get that hearing damage and excess noise can be a problem; but there's a much bigger problem to witness if one cannot hear the sound of an oncoming bicycle until it is too late. In the case of quieter or smaller scale environments (like a suburban multi-use path), then a bell rated at 85 dB at 10 feet non-reverberant should suffice.

I can't find anything about it, but maybe someone like you might? I want a usb bike horn where you can choose what sound it makes like an mp3 player or even make one myself. But anywhere on reddit I'm called an idiot or they say it's stupid every time (not joking). Where can I find something like this that is not a mybell?

hmm, thinking of using this with my bike bell... the horn is for cars and the bike bell is for pedestrians... but with many pedestrians having ear buds I might have to use both

I have this one. If on the Street totally silence its can be good heard but if there is some noise around belive me nobody hear it😢 already stopt with some oldies but looks like everybody on Street is deaf. Any suggestions for really loud horn for a bike?
