What I've learned: 1. You have to slow down to enter pit lane 2. You have to pit when the indicator is green What Ben has learned: 1. He needs a wheel for this game 2. Alonso won the championship already
Ben your pit indicator is the little house looking thing next to the amount of fuel you have left, it needs to be green when you come in or they won't be ready for you, if you want to come in you need to press Select I think to say you want to come in, however if it is your strategy to come in on a certain lap it will automatically change to green, if you press the Select button again it thinks you want to cancel the stop
Go back and watch the Season Reviews from about 1996-2006, I'm honestly suprised you know so little about this era of F1, despite Michael Schumacher dominating F1 for most of the 2000's it was honestly an awesome era.
Dear Ben, Please stop cancelling scheduled pit stops. Don't blame us when you're the one stuffing it up. That button is only for calling for unscheduled stops. Kind Regards, Your Pit Crew
THE REASON WHY THE PIT CREW ISN'T THERE is because the garage indicator is amber when you come into the pits. Make sure it's GREEN when you are on your in lap or the pit crew won't be there. To do so, press select. Hopefully you won't make this mistake again because it's frustrating to watch.
the little garage indicator on the top right of the panel in the bottom left corner tells you if your crew is ready. orange is scheduled lap, green means they are ready. i think you have to confirm the pit when the light turns orange and the engineer calls you in. also speeding into the pitlane resets your car, which also resets the pit command
+Dr. Future5000 you don´t need to confirme it. It tunrs green like in sector 2 or 3 in pit window lap. If you´re at this lap and press select you tell your crew that you wont come in
and also you need to press the select button to confirm you want to come in like in the vid where the radio guy said to pit and the pit indicator was orange you need to confirm you are coming that lap by pressing select. Ben this isnt f1 2015 mate.
I don't know how long you've watched F1, but yeah it's actually a very recent phenomenon that the cars are known for their reliability. Otherwise ever since the beginning it was taken for granted that every car was playing Russian Roulette with its engine and gearbox. IMO it's the only reason to watch old races, since otherwise nobody is able to pass. It's what gave us memorable races like 1996 Monaco and 1991 Canada.
ben, before recent years where there has been a strict limit on engine units for the season engine failures were very common as teams would push them to braking point every race, if they failed then they could just use another fresh engine every week (even a fresh one for qualifying) also with only the top 6 scoring points (often in a field of 26 cars) it meant that it was worth risking an engine failure for extra pace. If you look at the stats on wikipedia there were some drivers who would only finish 3-4 races a season, the rest it was all either crashes or failures. It took Jaques villeneuve 12 races in 1999 to get a classified finish because of the extreme unreliability of his BAR's supertec engine, which they ran too hot because it was underpowered as it was essentially a re-badged 1997 renault engine so short on 2 years worth of development.
BEN LOOK AT THE GARAGE INDICATOR IN THE LOWER LEFT - GREEN MEANS THEY'RE READY, ORANGE MEANS THEY'RE NOT. SELECT IS A PITSTOP TOGGLE NOT A PITSTOP BUTTON.
I was at the dreaded 2005 race where only 6 cars raced and Tiago Monteiro got his only podium. The awesome parts of that weekend was hearing those V10's before they went away, seeing Zonta put the Toyota on pole, the access we had to the grandstands up until race day and seeing Juan Pablo about 20 feet away from me briefly downtown one night.
The reliability aspect in this game does indeed mirror what really happened back in 2006. In the early days of the V8 era there were quite a few mechanical failures, so it's good that the game recreated that. You can get engine issues for your own car but it doesn't happen anywhere near as often as the AI.
+desert 321 I know, but since he had the same problem last time, he could have done a Google search taking not more than 1 minute. It's a bug, the engineer is full of shit.
Yup, reliability was a big problem back then. Many engine failures and often in a spectacular way with lots of smoke. Just ask Mclaren. They didn't win any race that year.
+Christian Nicholls formation lap, regulate pit speed when coming in and leaving, driving the car inside the pit, taking the car out of the pit garage... All of those things the drivers actually do would be awesome in the game
You have no idea how happy you made me when you played "Danger Zone" after saying it, because directly after saying it I started to sing the opening, and it just happened to be perfectly in sync with the song. I laughed so hard. Good shit, man.
The reason the pit crew didn't service you in Canada is because you went into the pit entrance flat out & for whatever reason your car being reset means you just drive straight through the pits & it took you until the 3rd attempt this race to learn that, well done.
+JamieNeil1994 There is a big red '!' point at the top of the screen telling Ben to slow down. I tested this yesterday and the '!' fades in and out based on your speed. If the '!' is a solid red you will not get a pit-stop. Also, as others have mentioned, if the pit indicator is not green you will not get a pit-stop as well.
Went to Montreal in 2005 since I live a few hours away. Was asked repeatedly why not go to your own race in the USA. Came home to watch 2005 USGP "race" and have rarely felt more vindicated.
truantray I don't dislike the Codemasters games, but I've always felt like there's something missing. This game has everything that is missing from the Codie's game
Okey now for all and i mean EVERYBODY who think that ben is not getting serviced because of the speeding: ITS NOT TRUE He can speed as much as he wants into the pit The mistake he is doing: the sign on the bottom left HAVE TO BE GREEN orange means only ur fuel is low or next lap is ur planned pitstop u can request a pit stop by pressing "SELECT" and when the sign at the bottom is green it is confirmed that ur crew is waiting this and only this lap
In the 2006 season, there were in fact quite a few reliability issues. The race with the least amount of reliability retirements was Silverstone, when only Button retired from an oil leak...the highest was at the Nurburgring, with no fewer than seven reliability retirements, for reasons ranging from engine failure to hydraulics to transmission. On that note, the STR Cosworth did retire from both engine and hydraulics failure at the 2006 Spanish Grand Prix, and Scott Speed suffered from power sterring failure in Japan that year.
It was like that with reliability in 2006. It was the first year of V8 engines and their development wasn't frozen until the end of 2006 (to allow them to fix any reliability problems and extract more power). Teams were really pushing it through season with Renault even deciding to use 1 or 2 versions older specification in last race just to make sure that he does finish the race and win the championship.
Your pit crew will only be there when the garage icon is lit up in green. Also in mixed conditions, they will put you on wets after a lap or so after the rain has started and yes f1 in the mid-2000s had a lot more retirements due to reliability, you can also get a random engine failure on this game
+Tom _F1_ It's not about the speeding. You can see in the bottom left the "house" icon was orange, which means you have to come in next lap. If it's green, they're ready for you.
In small tracks you can try no stop. Put the fuel on maximum and be patient in the end. I remember that I used to do this in USA when I wasn't so competitive
I was at this race, like half the field was gone by the end. I also remember it being Juan Pablo's last race. The F1 drivers never really seemed comfortable with the banked corner though it was fun to watch.
The difference between the first stop and the second stop was that in the second stop, the garage indicator in the bottom left corner was green. You have to manually select it to box properly. It isn't the games fault.
THE THING WITH THE PITSTOP: NEXT TO YOUR FUEL STATUS (BOTTOM LEFT) IS A LITTLE FLAG/HOUSE SYMBOL...IF ITS SHINING IN WHITE OR YELLOW (white =no request/ yellow=request sended) YOU WONT GET A PIT STOP...ONLY IF THE COLOR CHANGES TO GREEN (in your planned pitstoplap or after requesting ...you have to ask quiet some times...mabey because its an older game...) SORRY FOR CAPS BUT I THINK THIS IS IMPORTANT ...SOOO :DD
Ben the little house looking thing in the bottom left corner of the screen has to be green in order for the crew to service you so make sure it is green. if you go back and look on the lap you came in you will see it is orange
I believe around that time frame of F1 an F1 Engine was built to last only 1 race and no more as every part was built with weight saving in mind, The perfect engine during that time frame would be if it blew up as it crossed the finishing line if the engine couldn't make to the end the parts were to light and if the engine could do many more laps after the race then the engine was seen as carrying excess weight that wasn't needed
if you are supposed to come in the pits on your schedule pit stop and you press the select button you cancel your pit stop. It is the same as if you press the select button twice in any lap
If you press the start or select Button(not sure) you can come immediatly , so if your Pit Crew will not appear again you can press select or start and then you can go in :)
You probably didn't notice at the time, but you set the exact same lap time as Christian Klien when you were P17! Rad! Also, yes. The V8s in 2006 were quite unreliable because they were limited to 20,000RPM which is obviously very stressful. Not as bad as the V10s though!
Gonna have to mash the pit button and make sure it's flashing green. also if you don't come in when originally ordered, it might glitch them out or maybe just they're bums like in the last race. just remember to make that light green
If the pit indicator isn't green, press select. I don't think the speed of pit entry matters, unless they changed it between F1 06 and championship edition :)
There was a lot more car reliability issues in 2006 than nowadays especially considering engines. Your engine will not blow up at any time. Or you will not have any reliability issues. The fastest teams in the game are: Renault, Ferrari, McLaren, BAR Honda, Toyota, Williams, Red Bull, BMW, Toro Rosso, MF1 Racing and Super Aguri in that order. I think that in races both cars from any team are as fast, but qualifying makes the difference. For example you almost never see Alonso outside top 10 in qualy, but Fisichella is outside top 10 quite regularly. So Alonso rarely gets stuck behind slower cars in races unlike Fisichella. Same with M Schumacher and Massa. I think that BMW has some hidden pace if you join them. Also long straights are good for better teams, since they make most of overtaking in there. Mostly AI's overtake each other in long straights. Like it's easier for Fisichella, who had a bad qualy, to overtake a Williams at Indianapolis or Monza than at European GP Nurburgring.
Ben its your fault; to be safe pit when you have 2laps left of fuel. Reliability in 2006 mostly effected teams in the midfield but Alonso had an engine blow up in Monza & Schumacher had one in Japan.
Ben, here's what you're doing wrong. You can see in the bottom left the "house" icon was orange, which means you have to come in next lap. If it's green, you have to come in this lap.
They've replaced the road course section of the track for the Grand Prix of Indianapolis, which I am going to Saturday. If possible you should watch it, Indycar is pretty cool
+The Anarchy Shark The IndyCar series does two races in Indianapolis nowadays. For one race they use the road course version, and then there's the Indy 500.
Wait for the pit icon to turn green before you pit Press select either in the first sector of the lap you come in, or the last sector of the lap before
Yeah, reliability was pretty bad in those days. It was probably the last year with this. Now, drivers are much more likely to finish nearly all the races... unless you're Pastor Maldonado!
You have to push select button to command pit stop, look at the home icon on the bottom left Ben, if pit is ready, the icon is green, when you have to do but not ready, it's orange, when you command, it's blue, i think you have to wait like rFactor And for god sake, i'm french, listen you to say Magny Cour weird... argh Say Many Cour please, don't prononciate the G xD
+Roboboss14 It's not about the speeding. You can see in the bottom left the "house" icon was orange, which means you have to come in next lap. If it's green, they're ready for you.
Ben, notice that when you really have to come to the pits there is a green sign flashing on the bottom left of the screen. Someone has said it already in another video.
Im kinda excited for F1 2016 but I don't want to be too excited just in case it is like F1 2015. But with what ive heard from you and the other beta testers I should keep my hopes up :)
The reason you're lacking pace is because you brake late and then turn in. You need downforce so turn in just slightly earlier and brake right on the 100 Meter board. Hopefully does the trick.
Ben, could you possibly do a f1 2006 or some pre 2009 career mode on r factor with a mod or something. These vids are great but it is painful to watch you race with the pad. Great video today tho :) cant wait for more!!
if the little house is green that show u come in.. if its orange they will not do anything for u
What I've learned:
1. You have to slow down to enter pit lane

Please stop cancelling scheduled pit stops. Don't blame us when you're the one stuffing it up.
That button is only for calling for unscheduled stops.
Kind Regards,
Your Pit Crew
I'm from Indianapolis and my Dad used to take me to the F1 Race as a kid, literally life changing to hear those V10's at the start
THE REASON WHY THE PIT CREW ISN'T THERE is because the garage indicator is amber when you come into the pits. Make sure it's GREEN when you are on your in lap or the pit crew won't be there. To do so, press select.

stop going into the pits at 200mph... that is why your not being served. Its not the games fault its YOURS!
+FrostiFreeze I never had that problem and I would go in super fast too.
+FrostiFreeze it isn't that. If the garage icon in the bottom left is green they are ready, and you can press select to make them ready
+FrostiFreeze He should just go into the pits when he's supposed to,instead of staying out one more lap
wait, he didn't know about the garage icon? its right there on his screen flashing lmao
+FrostiFreeze and neither did you...

Dear Ben, do your research. If you just use Google you would see that the pit icon has to be green. You're ruining this series yourself now...
+Tibor vV But the engineer said to came in when it was orange.
+desert 321 the engineer said he has to pit soon

DON'T PUSH THE FUCKING SELECT BUTTON, THE ICON TURNS GREEN AUTOMATICALLY.
Yup, reliability was a big problem back then. Many engine failures and often in a spectacular way with lots of smoke. Just ask Mclaren. They didn't win any race that year.
Also ask Williams who retired from just under 50% of their races.
If you speed into the pits, the pit crew won't come up. When you see the red exclamation mark slow down....
Indianapolis is still my favourite all time track. Just something about it...
I wish f1 2016 has the formation lap it's really cool.
I Things the same
+Christian Nicholls formation lap, regulate pit speed when coming in and leaving, driving the car inside the pit, taking the car out of the pit garage... All of those things the drivers actually do would be awesome in the game
You got your wishes
Fun fact, the only f1 gp that I've been to is the 2005 USGP
+Drew bagan Well that's kinda unfortunate lol. Did you get any compensation for that?

+tmway84 ah so even if the garage indicator is green and you speed into the pits you won't be serviced?
Correct!
+tmway84 thanks for the confirmation. That is a strange glitch
You drove the exact same time as Klien during Q1!
+Harry Verolme (TPT) Monteiro as well at 2:19
+Charlizard Stewart look at 2:59.. I think it says KLI, but I could be wrong..

Compared to the codemasters F1 games, this game looks brilliant
codies reset the bar quite low.
truantray I don't dislike the Codemasters games, but I've always felt like there's something missing. This game has everything that is missing from the Codie's game
+Elliott Hurst Except the safety car, if they had that this game would be a 10 out of 10 for me right now its a 9.8
+truantray Well, codies games are more finished than the ea games, and studio liverpool games have horrible physics, so codies is actually better
Codies are brilliant, you guys are mad 😂
Of course your engine can blow up. Sometimes it´s absolutely random.
Okey now for all and i mean EVERYBODY who think that ben is not getting serviced because of the speeding: ITS NOT TRUE
He can speed as much as he wants into the pit

No i looked it up his sign was orange

You just bring back memories of me listening to a lot of Kenny Loggins about 13 years ago or so.
It was like that with reliability in 2006. This episode has a lot of "zone" and danger as well xD
I love the brickyard, its just awesome
BEN!!!!!!! ONLY GO INTO THE FUCKING PITS WHEN THE PIT ICON IS GREEN!
Your pit crew will only be there when the garage icon is lit up in green. Also in mixed conditions, they will put you on wets after a lap or so after the rain has started and yes f1 in the mid-2000s had a lot more retirements due to reliability, you can also get a random engine failure on this game
The rain effect in this game is amazing
can't wait to be at Indy in a few weeks for the 500. this just helps ramp up the excitement for me.
The pit indicator has to be GREEN !! Goddammit !!!
Confuse the viewers with your strategy right babe??
gotta leave ben out to confuse his car right babe?
Stop speeding into the pitlane for fucks sake. That's why they don't service you.
+Tom _F1_ It's not about the speeding. You can see in the bottom left the "house" icon was orange, which means you have to come in next lap. If it's green, they're ready for you.
bro that top gun reference make me smile soooooooooooooooooooo much
In small tracks you can try no stop. Put the fuel on maximum and be patient in the end. I remember that I used to do this in USA when I wasn't so competitive
"I'll put the kettle on, just 5 laps left" XD
Ben driving with unclear vision in his unfamiliar track is probably better than me with racing lines
We want double uploads of f106!! :D
Keep up with the videos Ben! We are loving every second of it!
I was at this race, like half the field was gone by the end. I also remember it being Juan Pablo's last race. The F1 drivers never really seemed comfortable with the banked corner though it was fun to watch.

I'm actually going to the Speedway for the Indianapolis Grap Prix for indycar this Saturday. Can't wait.
Top Gun HYPE!!!!!!
HYPE!!!
Top gun FTW
I died at 3:00! 😂 Great reference, Ben!
2006 was first V8 season (STR used 2005 V10's) so there was some unreliability, which was why V6's were predicted unreliable
Here's a riddle. If a orange house is made of orange bricks and a red house is made of red bricks. What colour are used on a green house?
They're made of glass
McLaren was known for their mechanical issues. The MP4-21 had 13 retirements in 2006 between 3 drivers (De la Rosa finished Montoya's ride)
Ben the little house looking thing in the bottom left corner of the screen has to be green in order for the crew to service you so make sure it is green. if you go back and look on the lap you came in you will see it is orange
I believe around that time frame of F1 an F1 Engine was built to last only 1 race and no more as every part was built with weight saving in mind, The perfect engine during that time frame would be if it blew up as it crossed the finishing line if the engine couldn't make to the end the parts were to light and if the engine could do many more laps after the race then the engine was seen as carrying excess weight that wasn't needed
number 3 on best F1 games
if you are supposed to come in the pits on your schedule pit stop and you press the select button you cancel your pit stop. It is the same as if you press the select button twice in any lap
It was like this in 2006 - many retirements.
Well that weather matched what it did yesterday in Indiana lol
If you press the start or select Button(not sure) you can come immediatly , so if your Pit Crew will not appear again you can press select or start and then you can go in :)
hahah laughed so hard when top gun appeared! top job :D
Loving that Dangerzone addition :)
Nice Top Gun reference ! The reliability of this season was actually quite bad as it was the first season of the V8 engines
Tom Bardsley the toto rossa got v10
@@louisbeerreviews8964 rev limited V10 so their straight line speed wasn't that great Vs unlimited V8
in that era of f1, reliability wasnt anything like it is today, we're kind of spoilt these days with how good the cars are
Why didn't you switch to dry tyres at your stop ? More than half the track was dry. Surely worth the gamble ?
You probably didn't notice at the time, but you set the exact same lap time as Christian Klien when you were P17! Rad!
Also, yes. The V8s in 2006 were quite unreliable because they were limited to 20,000RPM which is obviously very stressful. Not as bad as the V10s though!
Yeah, i noticed that too!
Gonna have to mash the pit button and make sure it's flashing green. also if you don't come in when originally ordered, it might glitch them out or maybe just they're bums like in the last race. just remember to make that light green
adjust the transmission to get a little more top speed.....
when the pit stop icon is flashing green is when you can come into pits
Yeah DNFs were rife back then
If the pit indicator is green do not press select. If it is orange then wait one more lap, it will be green after that.
10 years old game and way better broadcast presentation than f1 2015
Just wait until the house icon turns green it should turn green when you have 2 laps of fuel left. Don't press select
Ben, here's what you're doing wrong. You can see in the bottom left the "house" icon was orange, which means you have to come in next lap. If it's green, you have to come in this lap.
It was the first season with N/A V8s so I guess it was a bit experimental so reliability would've been worse
The engine can blow up at any moment - even when you are waitng for the lights to go out on the grid
Indianapolis is my home race.
They've replaced the road course section of the track for the Grand Prix of Indianapolis, which I am going to Saturday. If possible you should watch it, Indycar is pretty cool
You mean the Indy 500
+The Anarchy Shark The IndyCar series does two races in Indianapolis nowadays. For one race they use the road course version, and then there's the Indy 500.
Wait for the pit icon to turn green before you pit
Press select either in the first sector of the lap you come in, or the last sector of the lap before
Yeah, reliability was pretty bad in those days. It was probably the last year with this. Now, drivers are much more likely to finish nearly all the races... unless you're Pastor Maldonado!
That top gun qualy sequence tho
Ben, they dont service you because you come too fast on the pit lane.
no, he didn't inform his pit crew by pressing Select
Engine blowouts normally happen when you over Rev or keep locking up a lot.
You have to push select button to command pit stop, look at the home icon on the bottom left Ben, if pit is ready, the icon is green, when you have to do but not ready, it's orange, when you command, it's blue, i think you have to wait like rFactor
And for god sake, i'm french, listen you to say Magny Cour weird... argh Say Many Cour please, don't prononciate the G xD
I think you recorded this before my pit instruction on previous Episode!Lets hope for that!
you have to slow down before coming into the pits...
+Roboboss14 It's not about the speeding. You can see in the bottom left the "house" icon was orange, which means you have to come in next lap. If it's green, they're ready for you.
also it isnt f12016 this is a different game u fucking idiot
Push Select any turns before if you want to do a pit stop and wait, the engineer will confirm the pit stop
The 2005 Us grand prix was the best F1 race ever
+SpyroPS1iscool unless you driver/team rolled michellin tires that is.
I guess the last race was a 'Montreal Screwjob'...lol. (WWE reference)
France is one of my most favourite tracks in this game
The reason you're lacking pace is because you brake late and then turn in. You need downforce so turn in just slightly earlier and brake right on the 100 Meter board. Hopefully does the trick.
Ben, could you possibly do a f1 2006 or some pre 2009 career mode on r factor with a mod or something. These vids are great but it is painful to watch you race with the pad. Great video today tho :) cant wait for more!!
