Man!!! My thoughts exactly!! I started my backpacking career in the Southern California desert and we only carried ridge rests 36 years ago and still do to this day here in New England. If I'm hammocking I use one of my 1/2" thick full length blue closed cell foam pads in between the two layers of hammock fabric.
My inflatable sleeping pad from Amazon turned out to be defective (Zoobelive, leaking at the seam after 5 days - $50 & past the return date) so I'll be going with a roll-up or a folding pad.
So, I want this life. Do you camp on the trail under the stars mostly? I know it depends on weather and location but say your trip from Mexico too Canada. Also. Do you keep a fire arm or weapon. What do you do when sleeping around bears
Plan to carry about 30 pounds of equipment on your back, 99% of through hikers do not carry a weapon, you hang your food in a tree 200ft away from your campsite to avoid bears and yeah, weather permitting, you can sleep under the stars all you want
