He knew he wanted to be in Special Warfare and told the recruiter that. You can have that training put into your contract after you complete basic training. When I signed up for the Army in 1989, I had Airborne school in my initial contract to be started 2 weeks after completion of AIT. If the recruiter needs people bad enough, they can pull the strings necessary to get you to sign on the line that is dotted. 😉
