  • Gear Review | IIAs a long time Scorpion helmet owner, I wanted to try their XT9000 ADV helmet. However, I did not want to give up to dropdown sunshade. Fortunately, the European version of the helmet, the ADF9000 includes the shade at a cost savings. - Frank

    FRANK !!! - I have to admit - That is a good looking helmet !!! - I have a drop down sun shade as well - but rarely use it. For me - it just cuts down the visibility too much - again, that's just me though.

    Great looking Scorpion helmet Frank, it looks similar to Greg's new bonnet. You KTM kids are looking sharp! I like the drop-down visor too; it will be a must have on my next helmet. The tinted shield I learned last year comes in handy keeping the sun off your skin. When I got home from the east coast last year, I had a reddish helmet outline on my nose and rosy cheeks from the sun shining through my clear shield, just like Santa. informative review Frank. Thanks.

    Nice review, and a fantastic look on that helmet. I have the AT-950, and it's a great helmet. I have heard that the AT-960 is not as good.
    I very much agree about the field of vision. My street helmet is the Shoei Neotec 2, a superb helmet, but I have had several instances of turning my head before making a lane change and still pulling in front of a car I didn't see. Scorpion is WAY better for view.
    The drop-down sun visor is a must. Both my helmets have it, and I raise and lower it many times during a ride. In and out of sunny/shady offroad areas is one example. I would not buy a helmet without one. I also will not buy a non-modular helmet, so this new helmet will not be for me.
    Lastly, I wish Scorpion would use a ratchet chin strap connector.

    As someone that has owned both the XT9000 is a better helmet and lighter than the ADF. The ADF is a fiberglass shell amd the XT is full carbon fiber. Both are good choices but i prefer the XT

    • @OneOldManRiding
      @OneOldManRiding  7 месяцев назад +4

      Hello Greg, the ADF uses Scorpions TCT-Ultra, and the XT Uses TCT-Ultra 3K. TCT stands for Thermodynamic Composite Technology. Which they list as fiberglass, carbon and aramid.
      They list the weight of the XT at 1580, and the ADF at 1590 (LG)
      I expect one of those is incorrect, as there is no way the sunshade and the mechanisms it used are under 10 grams. Hell the sunscreen itself is probably more than 10 grams. - Frank

    Bought the same helmet (same color), got it really cheap at Black Friday. The plain colors were even more discounted ( I live in Europe) but after my Scorpion Exo 510 Air matte black, I wanted something with graphics, so the fingerprints/dust/scratches are less visible 😅. Now I'm waiting for Spring to come so I can test ride it 😁 By the way, the Osmo Action 1 camera's mount has a hole in the middle, so when I glue the mount to that plastic plate (camera support), I can access the plate's mounting screw, so it's not "permanent". When I don't want to use the camera mounting plate, I can easily switch back to the vent cover.

    Great video! My AT950 is 5-6 years old and needs a new visor and sun screen. I just ordered the same helmet for the same reasons you cite.. fit, viewport, materials, and sunvisor. Downside is that I have to wait 2-3 weeks for it to get to Oregon from the Netherlands (..maybe they can get itchy boots to sign it before it ships ;P)

    but sometimes, if I put it on backwards

    Two serious questions ...
    1. Why not an Arai?
    2. I have a slow leak in my back tire.
    It's a long story.
    Bad puncture repair.
    Every third day I need to pump it up.
    Short of getting a new tire
    would a squirt or three of Slime be an okay idea?
    thx

      @OneOldManRiding  9 дней назад
