Avalon Blues - the Piedmont Blūz Acoustic Duo

Valerie and Benedict Turner (piedmontbluz.com). When John Hurt recorded this song in 1928, he had no idea that it would lead to his rediscovery during the Folk Revival of the 1960s! This video shows the long wagon road leading to the Mississippi John Hurt Museum in Avalon. We filmed this while on our way to perform at the 2019 Homecoming festival, an annual event sponsored by the Mississippi John Hurt Foundation. At the very end of the video, the wagon road opens up onto the festival ground. The trip down this old road always gives us chills and, in lieu of showing a video of ourselves playing "Avalon Blues," we opted to share part of our road trip with you. Enjoy!
