Ehh in ways underrated but I think mainly cause he was in the 96 draft... had even more potential then what he ended with even tho he was good asf but if he was drafted a few years later in one of the awful 99-02 drafts then he'd be talked about more
I believe that him playing for losing teams and not getting that promotional push from the league makes him such a forgotten player because he gave crazy work to the best players in his era, very underrated. Playing in small markets was a major factor also salute to him
I always respected Reef’s game. It’s not easy to be productive hard night after night on a bad team knowing that you’re the primary option. And he’s doing well post career as the president of the NBA G-League.
I feel people never understand how dominate Shareef Abdur-Rahim was in his prime with the formerly known Vancouver Grizzlies. This guy can average 30 points per game and can really play the game for the love of it. He was drafted in the same class with Allen Iverson, Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Ray Allen, Žydrūnas Ilgauskas, Stephon Marbury, Jermaine O'Neal, Peja Stojaković, Antoine Walker. He was the player who played the most games without a postseason appearance. We wonder what had happened to him over the years.
I forget that Shareef was part of the 2000 Sydney Team USA squad. For as many bad teams as he was on, basically his entire career, at least he’s immortalized as an Olympic gold medalist.
I found this channel recently by looking for a video about Bernard King’s legendary Xmas day game and I have to say the content is amazing I am impressed you can find so much good quality video from the 80’s and 90’s when sports/bqsketball was not as widely broadcast as it is today. The players you use as subjects for your videos bring back so many early memories of being an NBA fan keep up the great work. Best channel i have found on RUclips in a long time. 👏 I’m also from Vancouver so the fact that you just posted a video on Abdur-Rahim right after I started following this channel is 🔥
I'm a Sacramento Kings fan always was my childhood team. But when we moved to the PNW in 1997 from Northern California we'd end up watching alot of Sonics,Blazers and Grizzlies games and Shareef was one of my favorite players to follow. Also I miss the Sonics and Grizzlies in the North West. Grizzlies uniforms and team colors were some of my favorite as a kid.
In vancouvers short history they actually drafted pretty well. Reeves was a good starting center before injuries and weight issues, Abdur Rahim, Mike Bibby, Steve Francis who they turned into Michael Dickerson who was a 16-18 ppg starter before his own injuries & Stromile Swift who was so talented just never put it together- definitely a bad 2nd overall pick but i think a lot of teams would have been enticed by his athleticism. The only really bad pick was Antonio Daniels. Just were a poorly run franchise and nobody wanted to play/live in Canada back then.
Me and Shareef share the same birthday December 11. Funny story I faced a former teammate of his Ivano Newbill in a basketball showcase in Luxembourg for aspiring basketball players. Ivano was in his forties and after the show case he went playing in Portugal this was around 2006. Damn I am old
So many great players went down due injury. Arenas, Jennings, McCants, Rahim, Granger, Baron Davis, Hill, Penny, Yao, Big Country and so many more. Big Respect to Reef.
He is forgotten because he unfortunately played on bad teams for his entire career. Played with the expansion Grizzlies and lowly Hawks in his prime, played with the "Jail Blazers" era Portland Trail Blazers after they stopped being a top level team, and played the last three years of his career in Sacramento after they had stopped being a contender as well.
Great vid! Texas boy here from the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington Metro. I Got to see Abdur-Rahim play once when the Grizzlies played against the Dallas Mavericks. Dude was a baller! He became one of my favorite players.
The talent pool was just so loaded during his time. He would completely be perfect for this era. I unfortunately did not watch that much of his games since he was always on a middling or awful team. Does anybody remember if he was solid defensively?
He played in the golden era of PFs and the simple fact he was able to hold his own just fine should let u know. Dude was in a conference with nothing but killers at his position.
Bruh keep these videos going Don't mind us well keep watching big fan keep shining light on notable players big card collector so I try to keep up with the sports world
I think if he would have had a chance to play for a team like the Spurs or even the Lakers, he probably would have had a ring or two Yes he was one of my favs
The NBA was defense oriented at that time, averaging anything over 20ppg in any era is pretty good. Especially in a era that was predominantly defensive.
Very good player but he could never lead a team. Mainly because every team he played for wasn’t any good so it wasn’t his fault. Wish he could’ve had more stability. Pretty much spent his whole career as a diamond in the rough.
no matter which team he was on did nothing in the playoffs was NOT a coincidence, he can get you 20 points on 47% shooting and that’s it, in a close game he can’t will his team to a win
How bout those buHawks. Draft a future HOF then trade him for a player whose career got limited due to injuries. But I was a big fan of Shareef too bad all the teams he played for svcked.
Criminally underrated forward
Wouldn't say underrated, had good numbers on terrible teams.

Shareef Abdur Rahim and Antonio McDyess were the most underrated PFs in that era speaking of which you got to do McDyess next
Also add Glenn "Big Dog" Robinson of Milwaukee Bucks and Vin Baker of Sonics
The throwback Grizzlies uniforms are 🔥🔥

Yep. He took Grant Hill's spot on Team USA 2000.

Had he been on winning teams in his prime.... He would be talked about more. He was a beast
agreed
Shareef! Smooth as silk. He was classic on the Jamie Foxx show too
That's one of my favorite Jamie Foxx episodes 😂
@@GHOST91141 🤣Uncle Junior you look just like that boy Shareef mbdgasfdta lol
One of my favorite Small Forwards EVER!!
Woo hoo I was waiting for this thank you
Shareef would definitely fit in today's NBA
His prodicution is as good as Jason Tatum today. 90s/2000s was so competitive which is why players like him did not get the recognition they deserve
Hypothetically if he would have waited Till the 97 draft would he had a better chance of a being on a better team
Hindsight
Thank you for this one, I echoed Shareef name when you did Big Country video. One of my examples when I explain a player that was underrated AF
I loved him and big country in the original nba jam 😢

YES! I was wondering when you'd get to him. Thank you.
Thank you for listening to my suggestion!
Great vid! Texas boy here from the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington Metro. I Got to see Abdur-Rahim play once when the Grizzlies played against the Dallas Mavericks. Dude was a baller! He became one of my favorite players.
The definition of an underwhelming 2000’s player with good stats
He wasn't a winner but he did get a gold medal in 2000. He was s soldier on the court. 20 and 10 for a decade not bad.
Symptoms of good numbers on terrible teams
Was from Vancouver, he was a very solid player got to see him live a number of times. Still a big country fan too.
The talent pool was just so loaded during his time. He would completely be perfect for this era. I unfortunately did not watch that much of his games since he was always on a middling or awful team. Does anybody remember if he was solid defensively?

Peace to Abdur Rahim.
Had one of the best, i mean thee best post game of his era. Bout time, THANK YOU!
How about a video on Donyell Marshall and David West
Bruh keep these videos going Don't mind us well keep watching big fan keep shining light on notable players big card collector so I try to keep up with the sports world
He won Gold 🥇 at the Olympics, that's a massive accomplishment.
Definitely underrated and such a shame he only made the playoffs once in his career.
I completely forgot he was drafted in 96’ …. Definitely underrated
Shareef was the man.
Antoine Walker needs a video
I hate that there's no clear video from the 90s due to the ubiquitous use of cheap videotape in that era.
Like many stars BEING TRADED TO THEIR HOME TEAM IS THEIR UNDOING
0:25 90s Grizzlies in a nutshell 😂
Make an episode about Cliff Robinson
Top channel on the platform 🔥 do toni kokuc bro or kevin martin
Definitely a Baller
Thank you 🙂
I want those Grizzlies jerseys and branding back!!
Even as a Chiefs fan I forgot that Tony Gonzalez played collegiate basketball!
Do Rod Strickland
I think if he would have had a chance to play for a team like the Spurs or even the Lakers, he probably would have had a ring or two
Yes he was one of my favs
Reef!!!
Gotta do one on Antwan Jamison man.....he was definitely a copy of Reef though.
Nice sugestion
Do one on Eric Strickland
1:27 Odd to show a "highlight" and not mention that the player went iout of bounds. Was this called?
Raise the Reef 🙌🏽
If only he didn't get drafted by Vancouver, that's the biggest reason he isn't known as much.
It’s crazy to think that an average of 22.3 ppg was the 6th highest scoring average in the league back then.
The NBA was defense oriented at that time, averaging anything over 20ppg in any era is pretty good. Especially in a era that was predominantly defensive.
The grizzlies should do that they should put an actual bear on the jerseys
I need the Sam cassell profile 2x champ
Very good player but he could never lead a team. Mainly because every team he played for wasn’t any good so it wasn’t his fault. Wish he could’ve had more stability. Pretty much spent his whole career as a diamond in the rough.

good player
in kobe, ai, nash draft too
He always had the numbers but never impacted the game. Barely noticed him there is true.
REEF
How bout those buHawks. Draft a future HOF then trade him for a player whose career got limited due to injuries. But I was a big fan of Shareef too bad all the teams he played for svcked.
He was balling with the Kings.
Hands down he was a face up breast 💪🏾💯
Vancouver was such a poorly run team.
AD is like a souped up version of Shareef, in today’s game. It’s a shame Abdur-Rahim didn’t get more All-Star nods
Meh 3rd rate star stuck on trash teams. Tweener with midling outside shot. If aaron gordon was the best player on your team type vibes.
Naw, AG nowhere near as offensively skilled
Aaron Gordon does not have this skill set
If I was him,I would have asked for a trade after being traded to the damn hawks
He sucked when the competition got real. He had a very limited skillset.
If anything, overrated. Inefficient volume stat padder.
There's a lot of those types of players in the NBA today.
