I switched from Fujifilm as my secondary system to the EM1 Mk.ii a few months ago and I love it. It is the most comfortable camera ergonomically I have used. For outdoor and travel in particular it is my camera of choice. It supplements my Full Frame system perfectly. For it’s size the EM1 Mk.ii is beast of a camera with some phenomenal lenses and fantastic colour. I really enjoy using the Olympus EM1 Mk.ii.
What do you find yourself using when traveling? Personally I tend to take lenses that sit at the ends of the spectrum, a 7-14mm and a 40-150mm. Maybe it's because at home I'm usually using primes 🤔
William Miles La Mont I use both primes and zooms at home - primes slightly more. For travel I’m virtually 50/50. The Olympus 12-40mm f2.8 and 60mm f2.8 macro are always in my bag. Both are very versatile lenses and surprisingly light - especially in comparison to their full frame equivalents. The 40-150mm f2.8 is often in my bag but only if I know I will definitely use it. It is one of the best telephoto lenses I have used and focal range to size ratio is superb. I don’t do as much telephoto shooting at present but it’s a lens that when I need it, nothing else will do. For minimal weight or casual use without a bag, the 17mm & 45mm f1.8 lenses are my choices as they are (jacket/coat) pocketable. They usually stay in my bag regardless though as they take up virtually no space in the bag and are very light. The 12-40 is my widest lens at present. I would like to add something wider at some point later in the year though.
I'll say this for you Jimmy, as a presenter on RUclips you come across very well. Someone I can believe in. I moved from Canon FF, so I now have a camera system that I can carry around, just in case I see something to photograph. My back is also happy. Most of my lenses are Pro's, primarily for the weather sealing. Fast apertures are a bonus and I'm not a Pro.
E-M1-II with 12-40 f/2.8 can make happy almost every versatile photographer. Landscape, cityscape, portrait, genre, sport - almost everything is possible at professional quality.
Jimmy nice video your olympus enthusiasm is contagious. I never really realized how good Olympus was on the photography side compared to other m43 cameras
Back in 2016 I had been shooting with the E-M5 mkII for a year and pre-ordered the Em1- mkII as soon as it was announced. It has been the go-to workhorse camera for my professional photography since the day I received it and its still going strong. The Olympus IBIS is industry leading. Plan to continue to use it as a back-up if the rumors are true and Olympus announces the E-M1 mkIII next month. I like having the option of a removable battery grip to make the camera smaller or larger and for vertical shooting (mainly headshots). Depending on what is announced next month I'll be getting the mkIIII or pulling the trigger on an E-M1X and continue to use the MkII when I want to travel lighter. Great video review Jimmy!
Don't forget the E-M1 X has the same sensor as our E-M1 mark II so your photos won't actually look any different. I love the idea of the X but that was the thing that woke me up and made me realise I don't actually need one 😃
I use MFT systems for my professional and personal work. I came from Canon as well after many years. I still have some of my Canon gear for certain kinds of work. I bought an Olympus PEN Lite E-PL5 to test the waters back in 2012... I wanted something very small, yet capable interchangeable lens system for shooting street. I liked it. Cute camera. And it was very capable. Then bought a E-M5. Liked that very much. The stabilization was a game changer. Then later I purchased a couple of E-M5 mark ii body's with grip. I use them on weddings, special events and documentary work. I also use Panasonic GH4, GX85, GH5 for video. I have been on the fence about getting the Panasonic G9 (it's closest competitor) for some time, now that the prices have come down so much... but I lean to the E-M1 Mark II for many reasons, especially with the latest firmware. Plus something just a little more appealing about Olympus. Physical handling. Colour science. The files are super. Thinking I am going to hold off to see what the updates look like in the E-M1 Mark III. Should be interesting. If they can take the best of the Panasonic G9 capabilities and upgrade the sensor and phase detection I'm all in. Both systems have stellar in-body stabilization, double card slots, rugged all-weather body's, great batteries... all the things you want in a pro body. The G9 is about $300 cheaper than the Oly E-M1 Mark II in Canada. Be interesting to see the pricing of the Mark III when it comes out. Maybe it will bring down the Olympus E-M1 Mark II to a more realistic price point.
Great "End of Term" review of the E-M1 Mkii. I have been using my E-M1 Mkii since it first came out. I had pre-ordered it. My original E-M1 was wearing out after three years and one shutter replacement. The E-M1 Mkii still seems like a new camera to me and I have over 200,000 photos from it. The quality built of the E-M1 Mkii is much better than the original E-M1. I now also have an E-M1X and I really love it and the quality built is even better than the E-M1 Mkii. My Pen F is my fun family and social camera. I do love how I can take everything with me and the bag is still carriable. Anyhow, if the rumors are correct and there is a new E-M1 Mkiii announcement in February what would I like to see and what would it take for me to get on the pre-order list for it. For one thing the better ergonomics from the E-M1X. I love the extra magnification of the E-M1X, so a better EVF would be nice to have. I love the ability to assign a custom mode to a function button. For me this feature is very handy for bird photography where I am taking a stationary bird photo using S-AF and the extra small AF box and with just a push of function button I can be in my BIF custom mode. Sensor improvements plus more and better processing power would be nice to have. Built-in GPS like the E-MX would be nice. Hand-Held Hi Res and Live ND like in the E-M1X would be nice. Having the same dual card slots like the E-M1X would be nice. Improved Face Detection where there is priority is giving to the AF Box. Subject tracking with more than just trains, planes and autos. Astro tracking like Pentax does by moving the sensor. An AF joystick would be great. Anyhow, it is a quick top of my head list of things that would be nice. I sure Olympus will up the specs and features enough for me to be on the pre-order list when the times come. Enjoyed the video.
lovely camera...great review, if i ever get to buy used em1 mark 2 i have to make sure it wasnt used and abused by you kind sir!!! lots of love and positive vibes from Bermuda!!
One of the most remarkable aspects of this camera was the recent firmware upgrade. It achieves what Panasonic - even in their full frame S series - has been unable to do, which is reliable auto focus for video. So much so that the EM1 MII actually sells for more then the GH5 now used - a shocking development really. I'm hoping the MIII is a full step ahead and not a baby step.... either way, great video.
Interesting to hear about your peeling grip. Mine too and I’m not a pro. I use the camera about weekly and would never use it in the rain. I think this is an endemic problem with this model. I communicated my concerns to the Olympus service centre and, although out of warranty by about a year, they agreed to repair it free of charge. This is more than a cosmetic issue because it affects the weather sealing. I hope they rectify this issue in the M3.
Yep pretty well known at this point. I believe it's due to the material they used being applied in a controlled, cleanroom environment - once it gets out into the wild, it quickly gets affected by changes in humidity and heat.
I have two Olympus EM1 Mkii's they are fantastic cameras, I also have 5 of the pro lenses including the 300mm F4 and 7-14mm zoom and all the mm's between, they are all pin sharp. I agree with you regarding the colour science, fantastic skin tones and beautiful colours and the fact that the cameras are very rugged. The size and form factor is also brilliant, as an example, I do safari's and I can take two camera bodies (each with battery grips), 5 lenses, two flashes, two video lights, 8 batteries and a full-size tripod (Velbon which fits in my bag) and a mini pod, all in one bag that fits in Airplane Carry-On size, amazing !! There are no other cameras on the market that has so many features and modes, I just wish they did make a full-frame version, then it would be perfect, most likely the market leader ! I have to admit I do have a Sony A7R2 just so I can cover the things that the Olympus' cannot (high ISO, large megapixel and super dynamic range), but only have two lenses for this camera, with these three cameras I can cover any and all situation possible.
As a enthusiast and after researching systems. I decided to go with Olympus 4 years with the EM1 and have since upgrade to the EM1 mk2. Their overall build qualities are excellent like you mentioned in your video. For me, being able to travel light and carry a wide assortment of lens is a winner. Keep up the great work on your videos!
Hi Jimmy, I recently (May 2021) bought used E-M1 Mk. II with only 10,000 shutter count. With is for this camera considered a low count. I just love this camera! I also got the HLD-9 battery grip for both extra battery power and to balance/ counter weight to the Olympus M.Zuiko 100-400mm. It is just a great camera/lens combo. Especially for aviation photography. I'm just an enthusiast but what a great camera. As my back up I have an E-M10 Mk. II and I just have to say it was a major upgrade coming from the E-M10 Mk. II and before that the E-420 (still have that one also and it is currently enjoying retirement)
Just bought the OM-D EM-1 MarkII and it is amazing. Upgraded from my full frame E5 and not looking back. This came with the newer 12-200mm premium lens which is a great everyday lens, impressive range and clarity. Time to start turning over my 4/3 lenses for some new M4/3 Olympus Pro lenses for this awesome piece of technology and equipment. Red35, your reviews are awesome. Keep up the great work.
Hi Jimmy, great video. I live in Ottawa Canada and it gets very cold in winter. Battery life truth with the EM1Mkii I have sot at minus 18 deg cent for over 3 hrs and the battery held up fantastic. Cheers Andrew
End of term yes but still a fantastic camera in 2020! I bought mine just a couple weeks ago on promo special from Olympus under $900 USD brand new. It arrived with firmware 3.0 already installed and I believe 3.2 is now out. Compared to my original EM-5, the EM-1 mkII is a huge step up especially noticeable on auto-focus and even though it's larger than my EM-5 it's better balanced and the grip makes it a joy to handle. I guess I'm one full generation behind but I'm not a pro and I couldn't pass up the price on my brand new EM-1 mkII. Fantastic camera.
Thanks, I bought o e November 2019, I love it it was an upgrade for my EM-5 ii Interesting to see what the MK3 will be like if it surfaces, firmware 3 have this camera an extended shelf life. Love your videos and always look forward to them. Thanks
Jimmy, I agree, it is one of the best cameras I've ever used. However, one thing one cannot get used to is the erratic behaviour of the Auto WB: it is incredibly off sometimes and almost always too warm (yes, even with the Keep Warm WB set to off). I just can't believe there is no fix for this while all the rest of the lineup handles Auto WB beautifully. Now this is what prevents the otherwise beautiful colors shine... Everything else is just spot on ;)
I always shoot with 5400K, as long as the perceived color temperature does not make me too nervous while shooting. I adapt the WB only during post processing.
Just got my em1 mk2 recently(used with less than 350 shuttercount),so mine should out live me as an enthuasiast. Would love to have the nd filter effects from the em1 x but understandable know its not possible. So far i am still discovering it and delf in the menus. Luckly i have the em10 mk2 for about 2years,so i am use to olympus menus although the em1 mk2 has much more shooting options and other settings. Love this camera.
As an enthusiast, the mk I still fulfils my needs, but I wouldn't be adverse to more autonomy, so I'm glad some mk II will probably be soon offloaded to the 2nd hand market...
Btw, you mentioned that it's maybe not the right one for low light. I have only seen olympus being able to handheld the milky-way shot. And the iso 200 night street shooting, was also olympus 😉 so the low light can't be that bad 🤔
Great video about a great camera. It is stylish, rugged and it handles everything you throw at it. I use it mostly in combination with the 12-40 mm lens and for me this combo is a match made in heaven. Btw: I really enjoyed your photos.
Jimmy, just a clarification. This camera was presented last week of November 2016, so just have past 3 years and near two months, not 4 year ^_^ I love your videos, keep it up. I send out a big hug.
What I want from Olympus: 1) HDR at ISO greater than 200, i.e. using ISO which the user sets, not 200. Sometimes HDR in low light conditions yields dark and as a result noisy images as if taken at higher ISO. I would like enhancement of this feature. 2) I need face priority setting - focus only on faces, if face is not detected - block shatter as if no focus. 3) Auto-ISO setting - "exposure to the right". Now in Auto-ISO mode both ISO and diafragm (in S mode) selected when histogram in the middle of the range, I need to have feature that camera sets parameters in condition histogram moved to the right. 4) in C-AF need AF correction if the subject is moving along lense axis on and off camera to better focus on the subject, especially when the subject approaching - in this case AF error is most likely to occur. 5) In series shooting with electronic shutter the camera actually can predict end extrapolate hands jitter and use predicted together with electronic measurements, and using special mathematical formality (namely Kalman filtering) one can merge predicted and measured data. This will allow to significantly decrease the percentage of AF errors in series shooting.
What are the recommended 2-3 lenses setup for the Olympus E-M1 II? I would get the Leica 100-400mm 4.0-6.3 lens. I never shot videos. The idea is that one can’t have a 200-800mm hand holdable setup on full frame. I also have Canon, Nikon DSLR’s systems with several Canon, Nikon and Zeiss lenses for EF and F. I’m also buying a Sony full frame camera for which I’m planning getting 3-4 lenses.
Jimmy...I recently bought 4 lenses... 7.5mm f/2.8 laowa 17mm f/1.2 Olympus 45mm f/1.2 Olympus 75mm f/1.8 Olympus I don't have the camera body yet.. and I was thinking about de em1 mkII... But these days I heard rumors about the em1 mkIII.. is it true? Do you think is better for me to wait?
Another fantastic video Jimmy! Thank you! Actually just moved back to Olympus with an E-M1 II and a boat load of lenses, 7-14 pro, 40-150 pro, 25 1.8, 45 1.8. I also have the 12-100 and 17mm 1.8 coming next week. But bring on the E-M1 III. That camera would be amazing. Maybe in 4 years time I will upgrade! :)
For video, you need a sturdy one but mid size is good enough due to lighter weight than traditional cameras. For photos, you can use travel tripods, I will be doing a review on a travel tripods later.
Yes, it was the 100th anniversary bag. Thank you. I’ll check the Billingham website to see if I can find it, or something like it. If I’m able to, I will try to purchase it. I would love a new case (other than my old Dell Computer Back Pack), to store my OM-D EMI MK II and lenses. Love your channel! Keep it going.
Moved my daughter who's doing a photography degree from Sony A77 to this camera, spent 20k on lenses both Oly and Leica. She loves it. Would you be willing to spend a week in the summer with her? Money at Pro rate and accommodation sorted?
Ryan Farmer Hey Ryan, thanks for your kind words. I would be delighted to share my photography with your daughter. We can talk more later. Email me at photos@jimmycheng.photography
this camera might be the high point in the micro four thirds universe, its simply top class . i hope the om-1 does well but not sure i would swap it for my om-d 1 mk 11 to be honest or at least i would need a lot of convincing to do so.
Got the camera myself... and really like it! But my big problem is the noise... have so much lookalike noise on the photos, even at base ISO, is there some setting for fixing it?
I don’t see noise but if you are not used to Olympus sensor, you may mistaken the ‘organic’ pixels. You need to lower the sharpening radius because the pixels are a lot smaller than APSC and FULL FRAME camera.
Been using a mixture of Olympus lenses and bodies from Panasonic and Olympus since 2006. Have always preferred Olympus lenses but right now I'm liking the Panasonic G9. Olympus just needs to step up the viewfinders like the G9 has for these eyes of mine.
Sounds strange maybe but I bought my EM1.2 a month ago because I know the EM1.3 is sure to come soon. I desperately needed a camera to replace my Pen F because it can’t focus shooting wildlife. Something I am now shooting. So I bought the EM1.2 now and I already started to build my wildlife/landscape kit starting with the 12-40 2.8 and in a couple weeks the 300mm f4. If Olympus gives us a good updated EM1.3 then I will add that to my Kit next year. Lenses first.
How much abuse can shutter take on E-M1 II? Does electronic shutter count the same as mechnical shutter in body software? I want to buy one sold with 100,000 but I'm not sure if I can check seperatly number of electronic vs mechanical, since I beleve electronic can take more abuse then mechanical one? Thanks!
As usually, I agree with all you say. For me, there is nothing not to love in the EM-1 mark II: altough there is not such a thing like a perfect camera, this is the perfect camera to me, even now in december 2023. Further models have improvements, of course, but I really don't feel I need them, and I am a gear addicted. Besides, I don't really see the point of buying a camera that, in digital terms, is built to last forever if I feel the urge to switch to the last version every three or four years.
LOL Red You Said there a Rumor about Olympus having a NEW Camera Around The "CONEA?" Or Corner? Jusy funnin wid Ya.. I Think Everyone has Some Word they Say WEIRD Or Funny, including Me, Great Video RED..as Always,, 5 Stars and 2 Thumbs Up,
Will you still stick to Olympus after the JIP transition? That's also my hesitation, because I'd just started into Olympus since the beginning of 2020.
Hi John, don't worry about it. In fact, I think it's going to be even better in the future. Look Olympus had been upfront and did what they need to do to make sure the camera department survives through the tough downturn of photography industry in general, All but perhaps Canon is in a slightly better position, Sony, Fuji, Panasonic all suffering big time in the last couple of years, Panasonic is also considering selling (from rumour sites), at least Olympus didn't stop, they simply found someone who has the expertise and market focus to help, yes, they no longer be running the show but will still be involved in the development. In fact, most of the senior management, technicians and engineers are moving to the new company. Time will tell but as far as I know, it's going according to plan.
Another great video Jimmy. I moved from Canon 5Dmkii to the E-M5 Mkii, buying it on the day of release in the UK. I was instantly hooked. I now have the E-M1 Mk2 and the PEN-F.
Thanks for this and some stunning images that are very inspirational. Returning back to MFT. Whilst waiting for my OM-1 I have bought a used EM 1 Mark II. This video has really helped mate.
Greetings from the USA! Like your videos on Olympus. I have migrated to the smaller format because of weight when traveling abroad. Would like to see some reviews of lenses not made by Olympus but 3rd party (Sigma, Tamron, etc.) for Olympus. You have done a little of that, and I realize that there are not that many compared with Canon & Nikon. Maybe look at some Panasonic lenses and how it works with Olympus M43 body? Nonetheless, I enjoy your videos for showing me the possibilities of what can be done with Olympus cameras and lenses. There's not as much out there compared with Canon & Nikon.
Hi Jimmy... great video... I love this camera... I use it with the grip and it balances perfectly with the pro series lenses (find it a bit front heavy without the grip)... as someone who grew up with film I have (so far) come across only two digital cameras that I enjoy using... this one and the Pentax 645d... something about the handling... my em1ii is still going strong so I probably won't update until the release an update for the em1x... which is obviously a very long way away... at the moment I can't imagine needing more than the em1ii can offer... but we shall see... sorry that was a long comment... if you got to the end, thanks for reading...
Red, seeing how this is a long term 4 year review of the Em1 Mk. II, what are your thoughts about the Em1 Mk. III? Do you think it'll be coming out sometime before summer of 2020?
I have still my Mark 1, and I will use it as the bad weather alternative to my Pen F, which i got, barely used for $ 300. The Mark 1 is still as good as it was back then.
Thanks for the amazing insight! I recently purchased this camera last November and so far it's been brilliant. I've got a question about what you said regarding the Olympus colour science. Are you talking about the built in image processing that creates a nicely coloured jpg? If that's the case, then is it still relevant when shooting raw because you will then tend to work with the colours yourself
All manufacturers use a different colour set up. It’s different to colour profiles. This is the base colours that the camera uses to produce RAW and jpg.
HI Jimmy. A while back, you showed a blue and tan camera bag by Olympus. I believe you called it an anniversary bag. Who is the manufacturer? I would love to get one. Thanks, I love the channel.
I can’t extract my remember a blue and brown bag but if you are talking about the 100th anniversary bag, it was a limited edition Billingham. It’s a UK exclusive. Not sure if there are any left however.
Let's hope they put the new Sony 47 megapixel MFT sensor in the iii. Personally I'd like Olympus to upgrade the EVF and touchscreen to a higher resolution. Apart from that an improved menu system and more autofocus points would be nice. It goes without saying the body should be metal
It's not a stretch to imagine that the only thing you're not saying is that your preview sample of the E-M1 Mark iii has arrived for testing already XD
I’ve been using M43 professionaly, for many years, also coming from Canon 5D, first adopting GH4 (great battery life), then GH5 and now EM1 mk2 for it’s focus and stabilization. Just bought 2 new bodies with 12-100mm lenses, nice prices. Today, I save a lot of money traveling light, less people needed and reaching places with all my gear that wouldn’t be possible with full frame equipment.
you all prolly dont care at all but does anyone know a trick to get back into an Instagram account? I stupidly forgot the login password. I love any tips you can give me!
@Kasen Yusuf i really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and Im in the hacking process atm. Takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
i'm just hoping they put the new 47mp sony sensor in the next om d. I love their system, but the images just look a little under resolved. a 47 mp sensor should fix that problem. also a pro 1.2 lens in the 7-12 mm range would be nice.
the keto life pixel pitch won’t allow 47Mpix in M43 or APS-C. Canon’s 90D already has a crazy pixel pitch @ 32Mpix APS-C equivalent to 60-80Mpix full frame.
Still loving the OM-D EM-1 Mark I and Mark II cameras in 2021.
I switched from Fujifilm as my secondary system to the EM1 Mk.ii a few months ago and I love it. It is the most comfortable camera ergonomically I have used. For outdoor and travel in particular it is my camera of choice.

Fabulous video. I'm glad to be part of the Olympus family . I'm an amateur but I enjoy photography and have now 9 lenses, and I ain't stopping here.
I bought the original EM 1 when they were first released, I’ve used it most mornings since shooting birds. It’s still going strong.
Like your content...watching your older videos. Keep 'em coming!

Thanks for filming this video. Felt your passion and satisfaction for this camera. 😄
Great video Jimmy! I’ve never looked back after switching to Olympus. Can’t wait to see what will be next.
I would like to see in-built ND filters as in the EMX

lovely camera...great review, if i ever get to buy used em1 mark 2 i have to make sure it wasnt used and abused by you kind sir!!! lots of love and positive vibes from Bermuda!!
Loving my E-M5 MkIII so far! I'll be using the heck out of it when I come to London in April!
I would love to see handheld HiRes and the ND Filters from the E-M1X trickle down to the E-M1 Mk3 😁
the ND wish is granted :)
This Footage looks Amazing ! The Colors and the detail are freaking me out . Great job.
Jamie R. What bag do you use? I`m struggling to find the perfect airplane carry-on size.
I've orderd my em1m2 yesterday.
Thanks for your comment Clayton. Glad you share similar experience as us!
Well. That was a breath of fresh air. Saw you on Rob Trek Channel, live feed. Checking you out. Now a subscriber. Nice to meet you.
I have a E620, had been dreaming for a oly E5. Not anymore since I purchased a OMD EM1 MK2
The E5 is four thirds. Not full frame
@@rentedtux1883 yes, stand corrected. E5 is 4/3rds, not micro 4/3rds. Thanks
Just upgraded from my E-M10 III to this. Picked one up for a great price used, happy with it so far!
Awesome! Enjoy your new camera!
Good job! Liked your stills, especially the green Chevy in front of green building. Nice.
I just had the shutter in my EM1 mk I replaced and it was an incredibly reasonable price. I definitely recommend doing it.
Yeah Olympus have always had a problem with their shutters, I've also had to get my one replaced.
@@keithrjoseph9528 I had mine done after 200,000 frames so it lasted pretty well and I'm looking forward to another 200,000
All the best for 2020 Jimmy and Tracey ,keep up the good work.
Cheers Gary
I just replace em5 to em1.2
Still learning to use all of the features in this cam
Hi Jimmy, great video. I live in Ottawa Canada and it gets very cold in winter. Battery life truth with the EM1Mkii I have sot at minus 18 deg cent for over 3 hrs and the battery held up fantastic. Cheers Andrew
I totally agree and now we hope that fuji will also improve battery life in the upcoming models
Fantastic camera.
your reviews are always enjoyable
I just got a new omd em1 mark 2 yesterday! I'm so excited to try it out. Didn't get the new one because I'm not missing that much
Thanks, I bought o e November 2019, I love it it was an upgrade for my EM-5 ii
Interesting to see what the MK3 will be like if it surfaces, firmware 3 have this camera an extended shelf life. Love your videos and always look forward to them. Thanks
Hope the em1 mkiii will not have plastic body like em5 mkiii.
I've just ordered one a few days ago. Now in 2022 it's a really affordable camera!
Video at 5:50 and surrounding does not look like 4K. Are you sure?
Just got my em1 mk2 recently(used with less than 350 shuttercount),so mine should out live me as an enthuasiast. Would love to have the nd filter effects from the em1 x but understandable know its not possible. So far i am still discovering it and delf in the menus. Luckly i have the em10 mk2 for about 2years,so i am use to olympus menus although the em1 mk2 has much more shooting options and other settings. Love this camera.
Glad you enjoy the EM1 Mark II. It's a fantastic camera!
As an enthusiast, the mk I still fulfils my needs, but I wouldn't be adverse to more autonomy, so I'm glad some mk II will probably be soon offloaded to the 2nd hand market...
I love the Mark 1 too! Such a great camera, just my need for 4K for production that moved me that direction ;)
Thanks and much appreciated
Considering this body in 2021, what’s your thoughts on entry back into Olympus system?
Thank you. Very helpful.
Jimmy, just a clarification. This camera was presented last week of November 2016, so just have past 3 years and near two months, not 4 year ^_^
I love your videos, keep it up. I send out a big hug.
That's what I thought
This will allow to significantly decrease the percentage of AF errors in series shooting.
love your content !hope you achieve 100k subscribers in 2020!
What is the song at :31 ?
For me another absolutely wonderful camera!
Is 127,000 much on the shutter count? Have an eye on a used one for just under $800. CAD.
Great video Jimmy ! I'm waiting for M1Mark3
Great Review. Thank you so much.
Nikon D7000 - Nikon D750 - Olympus E-M5mark2 and E-M1mark2 now :)
Jimmy, if you still have the pro service would Olympus repair the peeling grip and give it a once over?
What are the recommended 2-3 lenses setup for the Olympus E-M1 II?
I would get the Leica 100-400mm 4.0-6.3 lens. I never shot videos. The idea is that one can’t have a 200-800mm hand holdable setup on full frame.
I also have Canon, Nikon DSLR’s systems with several Canon, Nikon and Zeiss lenses for EF and F. I’m also buying a Sony full frame camera for which I’m planning getting 3-4 lenses.
Despite things like battery, I am more concerned about image quality, how much better is is the 2 compared to the 1 really, is it worth the upgrade?
based on dxo mark, the em1 mk2 has newer sensor, the iso performace can compete very well against sony and canon apsc
Much better, Mark II is a great update from Mark I, Mark II vs Mark III however, is more incremental and more focus on features than image quality.
Jimmy...I recently bought 4 lenses...
7.5mm f/2.8 laowa
17mm f/1.2 Olympus
45mm f/1.2 Olympus
75mm f/1.8 Olympus
I don't have the camera body yet.. and I was thinking about de em1 mkII... But these days I heard rumors about the em1 mkIII.. is it true? Do you think is better for me to wait?
And i am planning to get EM 1 mark 1 .
Still a great camera! Very good prices used these days.
I still have mine as well as the Mk II. it is still fantastic. Took over 5000 shots with it in Europe in 2018. Great camera.
Same plan regarding upgrade
What video tripod do you recommend for using the OM-D E-M1 Mark II outdoors? Thank you.
For video, you need a sturdy one but mid size is good enough due to lighter weight than traditional cameras. For photos, you can use travel tripods, I will be doing a review on a travel tripods later.
Thank you.
Thanks mate.
E1 Mkiii wish list: 40 mpix, 2 additional stops dynamic range, native iso 64 - 100, retain composite feature, HDR, procapture, 5 custom memory slots, dedicated back button af, bigger battery, 8k video
Moved my daughter who's doing a photography degree from Sony A77 to this camera, spent 20k on lenses both Oly and Leica. She loves it.
Would you be willing to spend a week in the summer with her? Money at Pro rate and accommodation sorted?
Yes my wallet felt that weight too. Great choice i hope a good future for her
Ryan Farmer Hey Ryan, thanks for your kind words. I would be delighted to share my photography with your daughter. We can talk more later. Email me at photos@jimmycheng.photography
Missed you, bro. Most fun commentator if you love Olympus.
Cheers mate!
this camera might be the high point in the micro four thirds universe, its simply top class . i hope the om-1 does well but not sure i would swap it for my om-d 1 mk 11 to be honest or at least i would need a lot of convincing to do so.
Such an in depth review!! Fantastic 😁😁
Thanks Michael! much appreciated.
Lovely video - thanks. And a difficult system to beat.
With the current price drop, which camera is a better buy E-M1 Mark II or E-M5 Mark III?
How much abuse can shutter take on E-M1 II? Does electronic shutter count the same as mechnical shutter in body software? I want to buy one sold with 100,000 but I'm not sure if I can check seperatly number of electronic vs mechanical, since I beleve electronic can take more abuse then mechanical one? Thanks!
the shutter count only applies to mechanical and not electronic. The rate on EM1 II is 150k I think and the new EM1 III is 250k, same as EM1X
I lobe this Camera soooo much ❤️❤️❤️
As usually, I agree with all you say.
I Think Everyone has Some Word they Say WEIRD Or Funny, including Me,
Great Video RED..as Always,, 5 Stars and 2 Thumbs Up,
Will you still stick to Olympus after the JIP transition?
0:20 what film camera is this??
Minolta dynax 9ti
Thanks for this and some stunning images that are very inspirational. Returning back to MFT. Whilst waiting for my OM-1 I have bought a used EM 1 Mark II. This video has really helped mate.
which lens is good filming in M1 mk2?
Jimmy is an Olympus ambassador as far as I understand. Manufacturers aren't crazy over their reps highlighting stuff made by their competitors.
Hi Jimmy... great video...
1st footprint I got to the end!
Red, seeing how this is a long term 4 year review of the Em1 Mk. II, what are your thoughts about the Em1 Mk. III? Do you think it'll be coming out sometime before summer of 2020?
Maybe i need to finally update from my mark 1 omd haha. love the videos 👍
Cheers!!
You could just waite for the up coming em1 mk3 but it will be expensive and the em1 mk2 is going for a very good prices
I have still my Mark 1, and I will use it as the bad weather alternative to my Pen F, which i got, barely used for $ 300. The Mark 1 is still as good as it was back then.
I adore your picture style
What is your secret to have that render ?
It’s my secret source ;) I will do a tutorial in the near further
Red35 Photography Hi, have I missed that tutorial? Which f-stop did Tracey use? I like the soft, but noticeable background.
I bought a used one in 2023 its fantastic like yourselves come from ff also
Thanks for the amazing insight!
This is the base colours that the camera uses to produce RAW and jpg.
it would be interesteing to see Jimmy behind the camera and Tracy talking about her cinematography experience with Micro 4/3 gear.
Tracey is too shy haha I will talk to her.
I second that
HI Jimmy. A while back, you showed a blue and tan camera bag by Olympus. I believe you called it an anniversary
bag. Who is the manufacturer? I would love to get one. Thanks, I love the channel.
I can’t extract my remember a blue and brown bag but if you are talking about the 100th anniversary bag, it was a limited edition Billingham. It’s a UK exclusive. Not sure if there are any left however.
Btw, thanks for your support :)
what camera did you use for this video?
Can't wait the em1 mk3 to come . petty sure it will be an amazing camera
RED - would you buy the MK2 today?
Thanks mate for sharing your thought.
you all prolly dont care at all but does anyone know a trick to get back into an Instagram account?
I stupidly forgot the login password. I love any tips you can give me!
@Maximo Andres instablaster :)
@Kasen Yusuf i really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and Im in the hacking process atm.
Takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
@Kasen Yusuf It worked and I finally got access to my account again. Im so happy:D
Thank you so much you really help me out :D
Great summary
i'm just hoping they put the new 47mp sony sensor in the next om d.
