    Stellan mixing 'I' and 'He' hints at the immense personal investment into the role Stellan has put. The Baron being the best adapted character is no coincidence.

      Why do you say best adapted? I'd say Leto or Paul were best adapted. Thought Vladimir was excellent in the movie, I wouldn't specify it as best adaptation

    A very clever point about minimization of the Baron's presence.

    • @Droxal

      It's interesting because my biggest complaint about the first film was there wasn't enough Baron scenes.

    • @nalim81
      @nalim81 8 месяцев назад +5

      @@Droxal yes, and Peter as well. The scene with Peter talking to Thufir is the one I would like to see most of the other deleted scenes.
      I had always thought that lack of Harkonnens in the first film was due to the focus on Paul, as the planned trilogy is a drama like The Godfather in the distant future showing the full transformation circle of the main character. However, what Stellan says here opens another dimension: they also intentionally added a bit of supernatural horror like in the original Alien.

    Few could play the Baron with such menace. Stellan Skarsgard is a brilliant portrayer of individuals trapped by circumstances or by their own vicious egos. Less is more, as they say.

    The key inspiration for this version of the Baron is Marlon Brando's colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse now, you don't see him much but there is a dreadful aura to his name and when we do see him we get to know why.

    I felt the Baron in Lynch's version was too cartoonishly evil. Villeneuve's version is much more frightening, perhaps even more frightening than in the novel.

    Interesting to hear how the movie apparently changes their relationship. The book’s Baron always planned Beast to be a nightmare for the Fremen/Arrakis so Feyd could replace him as the savior and future Emperor. The books are all about complex longterm plans (real books, not Brian’s crap).

    • @Bobaklives
      @Bobaklives 7 месяцев назад

      Reminder (also from this first book): Feyd was part of the same Bene Gesserit breeding program that led to Paul Atredis… but Lady Jessica was supposed to have a daughter so the Bene Gesserit could marry her to Feyd, unite the houses, and create the next step in their plan. Jessica’s love for Leto led her to disobey and produce a son. Of course, for those who’ve read the later (real Frank Herbert books) know that there’s even more that develops related to the above - but no spoilers 😉

    The Baron used to be super fit and strong like Raban until Helen Mohiam blackmailed him into sex (he’s into young males) and she gave him a sexually transmitted disease that made him fat and unable to walk without suspensors. And the Baron actually raised Fayd since he was a baby he took from his 1/2 brother Abulurd

      He did say Baron falls in love with him. He’s obviously not going to give away everything in an interview before the movie releases. Stop being mad when the movie hasn’t even released yet.
      Denis mentioned why he has changed certain things to rectify the mistake Frank Herbert thought he made and decided to release Dune Messiah to rectify it. Denis himself is a big Dune fan, he’s not going to film without being respectful to the book.

      Alia isn't in the film. Denis couldn't get a child actor who could do the role justice and he refused to do a cgi alia. Her voice is in the film but they decided to make her not born yet. Jessica kills the Baron while she's possessed by Alia.
