Fun fact the whole reason they use the banshee is for an engineer whos half deaf just to help him feel included in the strasburg family to hear them blow the whistle. It is nice thanks to a guy named dave who works at the strasburg railroad right now
@@richardfitzwell384 Well the one person named Dave told me that the one person is half deaf but i do understand that they use it in october for haunting shriek of the old PRR Banshee whistle. I got told this in April in the Matinence Shop Tour.
@@chrisdarailfan2 there’s no half deaf engineer there. They’d never pass the required hearing test. Also, even if you were half deaf, at that distance, at that pressure, you’d “hear” any whistle.
Very nice. I've been to the Strasburg Railroad numerous times (my grandmother lived in Lancaster County), and credit it (and a certain blue tank engine) with instilling a deep passion for trains and railroads within me. I also think that with Halloween approaching, #89's banshee whistle could serve as the inspiration for a ghost story.
Heading back there tomorrow for the 11 o’clock ride hopefully it’ll be on the number 89. Haven’t been there in 20+ years looking forward to it. Hopefully the weather will be nice.
That first shot at the crossing, makes me think of when the movies are trying to get footage of a moving train, but capture the footage from the underside. Whoever left that camera there must’ve been trying to replicate that footage, but for a real train lmao.
I truly miss her CN 4 chime whistle this was by far my most favorite whistle that number 89 had from 1991 to 2010 I wonder if the Strasburg railroad still has that whistle somewhere
The Rough & Tumble Shay had my CN 4 Chime on that engine back in the spring after having a serious overhaul done to it. We’re having a whistle blow this weekend which will be covered by Delay In Block Productions. I will be blowing that whistle this weekend.

That is definitely false information. The “whole reason” they use it, for the month of October, is for the haunting sound.

@@richardfitzwell384 I kinda worded the original whole reason wrong. Not only was it for the half deaf person it was also for october.

@@richardfitzwell384 Oh i guess that person was wrong then. Thanks for correcting me though.
89 is a champ, that whistle is a scream, and Strasburg is a national treasure. Thanks for making this great video!
@@StephenCarlBaldwin indeed it is, and Thanks
Thank CN for that
I’m so happy they put the banshee back on, one of my favorite whistles.
Agreed, I’ve finally heard this whistle for the first time
@@Keystone1906_Productions yeah, I heard it last time it was on it, hopefully it stays on there so I can catch it next time I go

@@Keystone1906_Productions oh wow, how do you know that??

That whistle brings me back to simpler times, even though it sounds bad on 89
Awesome video! Glad they put the banshee on 89!

I took a ride on the train back in July would love to come back in the future to hear that steam whistle blow

Good to see CN 89 back! 🇨🇦
Nice video I am planning on doing up to strasburg next weekend to see 89 in action.
*going up* not “doing”
That whistle can be used for Halloween train events in October!
1:54 Ah we've been peed on! 😂
Wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve even seen the banshee 89! Awesome my man

I recall reading awhile back that the banshee was disfavored because of complaints from residents along the line complaining.

this whistle gives me memories
its not the one that got punched in the nose by a mini excavator.
That was 475.
That’s the weakest whistle I’ve heard yet. Pathetic!!
You can thank strasburg for that. Her original whistle was a big 4 chime CN whistle!!
