It amazes me just how long VW has used this transmission; even longer if you consider the 096 is pretty much the same thing. I don't have the part number handy, but there was a dipstick option for the 096 transmission intended for the Eurovan (Vanagon?), which also fits the O1M, complete with proper level indication. It makes for a nice addition for folks who do regular services on their 096/O1M transmissions. It was around USD $70 last time I checked. :) In case anyone doesn't want to pay the USD $30 per liter that the VW/Pentosin fluid costs, I've been running Royal Purple ATF for about 15,000 miles (24,000 km) now with no issues and great driveability. Royal Purple's ATF meets VW G-052-162, G-052-990, and G-055-025 specs.
@@EXOVCDS hey tommy, 1 question.... What type atf you used? I have an 03 beetle, and I'm looking to flush the tranny... What would you use... Please advise... Thanks, be good...
Depends on the type of transmission. Contact these guys, give them your car's info and they will tell you what to use / give you options. www.ecstuning.com/ContactUs/
Nice vid. Ford explorers had a similar fill procedure. I change the Silverado twice a year and the Ford once a year it takes synthetic. I've never drained fluid that dark and the filter fell off-LOL
So much easier than the A4 Jetta, being the same tansmission. Mine is slipping in reverse and first gear, so it's heading for the shop sometime in the next few weeks. Thanks for the video.
+Thomas EXOVCDS The filler tube, if mine has one, I haven't seen it. Mine's leaking, and the few time's I took it to check the level and top it off, they used the drain hole. That means they don't know a lot at the local wash'n'lube shop.
This is the best video I have seen on this and I checked out a few. Thanks. Some on YT say never change all the fluid. Using Lucas fluid help with problems. I have a humming noise from gbox. Thanks any advice would be appreciated.
A humming noise that is present during acceleration and that comes & goes at light cruising speeds... might be a worn differential ring gear (crown & pinion). maktrans.net/image/cache/data/alex/product/IMG_0620_1-800x600.jpg Yes, it's true... some say to not change all the fluid, because it can create shifting issues. These cars are 20 to 26 years old... transmissions don't last forever. Eventually they will need to be overhauled. =(
This is probably the best and most insightful channel on RUclips for vw Audi. I have a question, 2007 jetta City mk4 auto. With 180km. Its starting to have some transmission issues I just bought the car 2 weeks ago the previous owner said it started to act up about a month ago, I am planning on changing the oil and filter on the trans but I also know the valve body fails as well, could it just be a refresh on the fluid? Or will it need a valve body? Thanks again!
If the bottom of the transmission is oily all over, then I would start with a filter & fluid change, as low fluid level can affect the way the transmission shifts... if there is no sign of leaks around the transmission, it's probably safe to assume that it is not a fluid level issue, but more likely a solenoid issue. I'm not an automatic transmission guy, so I don't know the common issues these transmissions have (aside from the information that I have come across online... like the valve body / solenoids you mentioned). There are many great youtube channels by mechanics who are transmission specialists... I would suggest contacting one of them (or a transmission specialist in your area) for more / specific information. Here are a couple: ruclips.net/channel/UCpJdF1RzuXHqtzK258qRLjg ruclips.net/channel/UCuJNRbjB41BP8SRqN0AKfZw
that 2004 golf that I just change water pump on it have a delay about 2 to 3 seconds between Switching gears from Park to Drive what you think would cost that?? bad torque converter, dirty fluid I haven't checked it yet, or transmission problems. thank you!!
+Thomas EXOVCDS I will be replacing fluid next week, but this short delay it's not really that short, I never seen transmission doing this and I have another volkswagen it's 2005 jetta and it does not doing it and if I'm not mistaken is the same transmission on it. it's going to be a solenoid sticking or it doesn't work at all.
Approximately 4 liters are filled first. then the excess is emptied. Then, when the liquid temperature reaches 35 degrees, it is drained again. closed when drip occurs. are they correct
Fill with 3.5L to 4L... start the engine and go through all the gears (P,R,N,D,3,2,1 hold each gear for 3 seconds). Once you are back at P, let engine idle until ATF temperature is 35c. Remove fluid level plug. If no fluid drips, add more fluid. If fluid runs out, let run out until it start to drip. Once fluid is dripping, install the plug.
4 speed auto, 5 speed auto? Fault codes? Fluid temperature? Have a transmission shop test drive it to get an idea of what it does. Probably a valve body solenoid issue... my best guess.
Hey Thomas, have you noticed the bolts coming off loose from the intake manifold on the 3.0 Audi motor ? I just found them like that couple of weeks ago, and I put them back in and the car was running fine till couple of day ago,now I have no compression on cyl # 4,and 120 across all other, probably burnt valves right ?
+Thomas EXOVCDS couple years ago I had a mechanic shop do the timing belt (2300dlls) I suspect they were to blame, anyway no burnt valves or anything like that, the culprit was a piece of plastic from the vacuum actuator a little white ring that was stuck between the seat and the valve it wasn't closing because the plastic piece was melted with the valve seat,I think that the valve is bent
Do you use the $26 (USD)/quart OEM fluid, or do you get aftermarket fluid? I've seen Pentosin brand at Pep Boys at about 2/3 to 1/2 dealer retail. I'm not sure which one is the same.
