Hey Jake, something I think I didn’t elaborate very well on is just how amazing a place Ranger regiment is to be, you get fantastic training, the best kit and weapons available to the military and you’re going to have top tier senior leaders as well. I don’t want to discourage people thinking it’s nothing but a meat grinder, it’s a fantastic organization, thanks again for having me on.
Are commanded got bullied when he was in school that's what it sounds like the other guy seemed like he checking them just to see if you was in the military.
Jake is the man. I watched his videos in 2019 while I was trying to become an 1811. I called him and he sat down with me and told how much I needed to run. Needless to say, I went to my academy killed my running at 6'3 220 pounds and was named class leader. Developed a tough mindset because of that man. I ran six times week. Sprints MWF. 5 mile runs on TR. 10 mile run on Saturday. Freaking sucked but after several months you get really good. You get skinny and start freaking flying on the road. Most importantly you get mentally tough! I know you don't remember me Jake but thank you man. Changed my life.
Jake, look up a cat named Chris VanSant. He lived the example you talk about in a way “if you go out for Ranger Regt and don’t make it you’re still an infantryman and doing Infantry shit.” VanSant made it to 3/75 but a year in got kicked out of Regt for a DUI. Went across post to 3 ID (back when they still had 3rd BDE there.) Huge culture change from Regt but he was still an 11B. Spent a couple of years there, nearly dropped a separation packet. But he instead re-enlisted for 82nd Airborne, got it…. Was contemplating dropping an SF packet, but wound up trying out for CAG instead…. Didn’t make it the first time, came back a year later and made it in CAG. Great story as far as grit, resilience, and proof to your point “if something goes wrong you’re still an Infantryman….”
It’s so refreshing to hear real men like this speaking. Our country needs men like this now more than ever. Thank you Jake for having real conversations like this
I had a guy by the name of Clifford Lewis as one of the Drill Sargent's in my OSUT company in 1982, and he became a Sargent Major I believe while at the 2nd Battalion/75th Ranger Regiment in 1993... Big guy with the right attitude 💯
The only thing I feel that would turn most ppl off is the “hazing” getting jumped isn’t fun getting jumped by 5 rangers on ur VERY FIRST DAY 😂 like wat are we accomplishing except extra tbi. I think that’s a big problem in the military as a whole, relatively harmless pranks are one thing, but beating and jumping ppl is high school/frat bs
@@Jc-ly6peyou gotta remember that most of them can’t fight. They are basically trained military personnel. It’s more about grit and survival because you may end up in a situation like that. Learn how to fight
My wife’s uncle was in 3rd Batt from ‘96-‘03. He went through SFAS and got selected in 2001 and was getting ready for the Q-Course when 9/11 happened. He got his orders changed and went back to the Regiment because he figured the war wasn’t going to last long. Later on he and a couple other guys got kicked out of the Regiment for beating the shit out of 2 Egyptian soldiers that tried to kidnap his drunk buddy. This was not too long after his company captured Haditha Dam during the Invasion of Iraq. He later went on to become a BlackWater contractor and did that until 2015, but he said Ranger School was a relief because he was getting smoked and beat up everyday for 6 months straight in the Regiment
That's a true ass story about Ranger school being a relief from getting ass beatings at 3rd batt. God forbid you got caught in the hallway of the barracks by a tabbed guy! You got smoked or choked out and your ass beat every time!
Jake please get another ranger on and ask more questions like these. Super informative and answered a lot of questions that it’s hard to find online. Also if you get another ranger on please ask how prior service guys are seen showing up as imports with the tab and without. Thanks again man!
If you’re an E-5 or below import from big army to Ranger batt, you better come with your fucking hands up ready to kill. They will try anything and everything to break you. They want people that grew up in battalion, drinking the theoretical Ranger Kool-aid. We had an e-5 import who, during a longer run right before we got back to the company our squad leader told us to choke him out so we did. Three of us privates against a former 82nd recon dude, choked his ass out. When he woke up he got told he was a bitch and what did he think he was doing here, and we finished the run back to the company. That’s one example. He had to dig his heels to stay in.
If you show up with a tab you better know your shit, the standards for you will be a lot higher but if you have a deployment patch and a tab you probably wont be treated like a cherry bitch, well, maybe i guess it depends on who youre serving with and who you deployed with (an 82nd or 173rd deployment probably yields some respect) the scroll without the tab doesnt mean much, and the same goes for a tab without the scroll. A lot of senior leadership usually end up leading in the aforementioned airborne units, my old csm at the 173rd was a scrolled and tabbed ranger, csm farrussi.
I was just a POG. Nothing high speed. But when I was a cadidiot in college, our senior NCO was a former CSM of the Ranger training BN. Our CSM said the same thing this young ranger is saying. And this was over 25 years ago.
This is one of the few places I’ve found that doesn’t say “you can do it!” In a soft cheerful tone, but is straight up about the lifestyle you gotta live. As a 17yr old guy, real talk like this holds me accountable. Thank y’all.
Basic training was easy compared to what I was doing in the 101st airborne. In basic they have you do a 20 mile road march with 50lbs in a rucksack. In the 101st I had to do 25 miles carrying 140lbs and that was up and down hills in the woods. During my deployment to Kosovo in year 2000 I was put on infantry duty since my platoon was giving a neighborhood in the city of Vitina to enforce martial law in. They had me going house to house for weeks kicking down doors looking for weapons. My videos of that deployment are on my RUclips channel which include house and vehicle search footage.
I’m 25 and am enlisting with a 40 option and this video just confirmed everything for me. I’ve been in contact with a lot of former big army and former rangers and they’ve been saying all the same things. Thanks for a great content Jake Shout out from Washington State

Pat Mcnamara, a Delta operator, said a guy with 10 years in CAG reported himself for an accidental discharge when no when was around on the weekend, and they gave him a year off. This is legit how it works in the Infantry too. The real fuck fuck games dont start until you get to your unit. I lived next to 2/75 at Lewis. Great info. Just wanted to add something from my own experience that I don’t hear to often is alcohol. It’s a huge issue in battalion (and from what I understand other socom units) A lot of people get kicked out for alcohol related issues. It’s a thorny issue not many talk about because a lot of people, including leadership are drinking alot. if your not careful it can get you in trouble fast! Don’t drink at all before, during and after training including and especially any holdover situation your in, and if you cannot not drink then seek help
You hear guys in the military talk about how there’s no fighting or you’ll get arrested or some stupid shit. Then you have guys talk about the real experience where you will have to engage in “cock fights” . Finally people are giving the real story of what’s to come .
People don’t believe me when i tell them i saw a dude get dropped day 1 of rasp because the cadre said he looked like a nerd…and he was a pt stud lol.. also. Was airborne infantry and they smoked us from when we got there till we left until i made e4 lol. Shit sucked. I ran too slow in rasp and got sent to an airborne infantry unit…
Lol, yup. I was batt. I was told to write an essay on why I want to be a Ranger. I wrote a complicated essay that was university level. They got so pissed and screamed, "Does this look a fucking university!!" And chucked it. They yelled and I got fucked up bad. I had rewrite hand written. I went balls to the walls. Aggressive as fuck saying I wanted to kill people and just went straight fire. they read and said nothing
There are 6600 Green Berets altogether. 5,500 active duty and 1,100 in two National SF Groups not one. Those are 19th and 20th Groups. There are however 20,937 people in all 7 SF Groups so like every place else they have far more support than opperators. On the Intelligence side of SF Support they have Tactical Intelligence Teams that function very much like ODAs that while not tabbed Green Berets( though some might be) are opperators in their own right. They are similar to RRC in nature.
I know a few Vets doing personal security gigs for clients, and most times that entails securing the families of the client. One brother I know, rotates with another Vet, and at times they live in the homes with clients, no different then what brother Denzel Washington did in the movie ...MAN ON FIRE...
Yall are spitting the truth brothers. I served with 1st infantry division yup you need to have your crap together if not their will be consequences harash. These kids need to understand what yall are telling them about special operations in a unit. I thank yall for telling the truth. The truth is a muthafucker these kids can't handle the truth.
Thank you for your service man. Mad respect for you guys. For these “cock fights” did they pair you up with people your size and who decided who fought with who? Were the good fighters respected more? How much sleep did you get?
Always amazing sir And yes you are correct I went through infantry school at Ft Benning summer of 95. I was there for reserves and they were so close to talking me into signing a 4 year contract and get to go to Rangel school. Now I wish I would have done it I’m not sure if they would have even been able to make that happen and change your contract in training but I don’t doubt it As Rocky’s trainer MIK would say. The drill sergeants had us ready to Eat Lightnin' And You're Gonna Crap Thunder!” ...
Whoa-Wow! PT/Training/PT, then you get squared off and fight another dude! So youre never a "made-member", you always gotta stay on top of your game. I cant imagine guys do that for more then a few years? That would just wear on ya over time I would imagine. Much respect tho, geez. Yeah, it makes sense that all the SF groups are basically he same base level, just certain specialties.I imagine Rangers probably dont have to go swimming much, and SEALs dont have to usually attack, take, and hold airfields...I guess...usually. hehe. Great one as always, Mr. Zweig!
I haven't been home in years, which is TN. He wasn't lying about the heat with humidity 😂😂. When i played rugby and football up there you'd be cooking. You can even be outside just talking and then 5 mins later, you're sweating
It’s the best place to grow into a man, I remember my first day in 3/75 like it was yesterday too lol, I didn’t realize how big of a accomplishment it was to ETS with both scrolls 😂
What’s the gentlemen’s full name? I just wanted to know how do I get in contact with him, I never heard this much in depth information about Ranger Batt, taking my asvab in august truly might be making a career change in my later years so just wanted some more in-depth info on how to prepare for RASP and what to look for in contracts and etc. But if not it’s cool, thank you Jake for putting this video together and helping us regular folks to take a chance if you want to go this route. Thank you 🙏🏾
When he says that RRC “recruits from civilians… but they’re all E6, E7 or above”, does that mean there is a pipeline where a civilian could call a recruiter and say “I want to become RRC” and similar to an 18X (SF) or Option 40 (Ranger) contract?
They recruit civilians for training jobs such as counter surveillance/hot wiring classes/urban recon/etc… I didn’t put that into words very well, they are a Tier 1 SMU so there is no direct pipeline to RRC and it is VERY difficult to get into there pipeline for non-Rangers because your average Joe in the army doesn’t even know that they exist or who/where they are located. If you are infantry and you show up they only take E-6 and above, and you’ve gotta be at the top of your game. You can look up what some of their missions they’ve done in the past have been, such has huntibg down and killing the insurgents that killed the SEALS during operation redwings as well as killing all of the insurgent reinforcements. The reason you don’t hear about them is hav an incredibly high mission success rate and deploy all over the globe assisting Non-military assets aswell I hope that clears it up, it’s an invitation-to-selection like CAG
I wonder what other mos within regiment are like. While at JBLM the PT being conducted by 25 series or 92series seem ed quite manageable for any high speed soldier (from I observed from my own runs/ruck routes that sometimes overlapped) Supporting the mission is of much greater value than the title to me, And I really wanna be part of that mission in support. I was disappointed of PT and training standards when I enlisted which pushed me to officer route, but I realize maybe it’s not the mos or rank, maybe it was the units I’ve been assigned too in the past?
Everyone in Regiment must pass and be selected from RASP to get in and once you do so and are assigned to Regiment you are a Ranger and held to Ranger Standards reguardless of your MOS or job even Support Enablers at Ranger Regiment are Rangers this is different than for example that SF where you have 20,937 people in the 1st Special Forces Command( that includes all 7 SF Groups, Civil Affairs and PSYOPs and only 6,000 are Green Berets. On the Support side there are some operational teams full of peoples that could and probably should be considered opperators in there own right and operate with ODAs and independantly on their own they are however not SF Qualified for the most part all though some might be Green Berets who just decided they liked that job more for what ever reason. These teams have to do with Intelligence Support.
I worked with all of these specop outfits as a Night Stalker and they are all das asses but the Rangers are just something different they ar fuckin mainiacs! I love them!
Any youtube interview where you've detailed your path as an older brother who stuck to his guns and went enlisted instead of tge officer route, even while having a degree ?
When I was assigned to S3 I would kick a lot of Rangers out of the regiment for not passing Ranger school because they had only been out of RASP for two months. You should be in good shape. I did not want Shit bags in the Regiment. CWO3 HHC 2nd Ranger Batt.

FUCK Yah man first thing I talk about
Good interview
Cannot tell you guys how awesome you are!!!
From the Mike Ritland podcast: 'Don't trip over things in your rearview mirror'
You hear guys in the military talk about how there’s no fighting or you’ll get arrested or some stupid shit. Then you have guys talk about the real experience where you will have to engage in “cock fights” . Finally people are giving the real story of what’s to come .
I love the way Zweig says "okaaaaayyyy" 😂
Great episode
Meat eaters
There are 6600 Green Berets altogether. 5,500 active duty and 1,100 in two National SF Groups not one. Those are 19th and 20th Groups. There are however 20,937 people in all 7 SF Groups so like every place else they have far more support than opperators. On the Intelligence side of SF Support they have Tactical Intelligence Teams that function very much like ODAs that while not tabbed Green Berets( though some might be) are opperators in their own right. They are similar to RRC in nature.
Do you know what they're officially called?
@@heartandmindovercome3214 What who are called?
Would have loved to see you ask him about his experience with officers!
Hummmmmmmm i missed that question ......I'm have to get better interviewing
I haul hundreds of bales of hay in Tennessee every year, this speaks to me😂😂
The real scoop! Thanks for posting Jake!
This is the way
That story abt the little guy in the rangers that got slammed is enough for me to not even look at those courses as an option
If you don't like the fight it's not the place for you
@@jakezweig Exactly, I’m thinking of officer route. Much respects to you!
I know a few Vets doing personal security gigs for clients, and most times that entails securing the families of the client. One brother I know, rotates with another Vet, and at times they live in the homes with clients, no different then what brother Denzel Washington did in the movie ...MAN ON FIRE...
Yes sire
OUTSTANDING SIR!!!!! YOU INSPIRE ME!!! Former CPT (ret) HHowey (Adjudant General Corps) USAR!! I wish I went to RANGER school!!

This was an excellent podcast !
Please keep it up ! I'd love a part 2 !
No no they can not handle the truth at all
Thank you for your service man. Mad respect for you guys. For these “cock fights” did they pair you up with people your size and who decided who fought with who? Were the good fighters respected more? How much sleep did you get?
Always amazing sir
And yes you are correct
I went through infantry school at Ft Benning summer of 95. I was there for reserves and they were so close to talking me into signing a 4 year contract and get to go to Rangel school. Now I wish I would have done it
I’m not sure if they would have even been able to make that happen and change your contract in training but I don’t doubt it
As Rocky’s trainer MIK would say. The drill sergeants had us ready to
Eat Lightnin' And You're Gonna Crap Thunder!” ...
BOOM
OUTSTANDING!
Jake are you going to review the new SEALs training program review that just dropped? Would love to hear your take... Thanks, Tim
Yup its already done
So get Ranger tab before trying out for battalion, got it.
That MF air field run 😮💨 Ft Lewis

@@jakezweig living in Meridian Idaho life is outstanding. Still have same number call me bro
Great 👍🏼 interview
Zweig!
Great comment man !!!!! Bring the truth to the crack smokers

Wish he would’ve mentioned what year and time he was doing all this. I wonder if this was all recent? Like a timeline of his career
Yah man I think he got out in 2020
What’s the gentlemen’s full name? I just wanted to know how do I get in contact with him, I never heard this much in depth information about Ranger Batt, taking my asvab in august truly might be making a career change in my later years so just wanted some more in-depth info on how to prepare for RASP and what to look for in contracts and etc. But if not it’s cool, thank you Jake for putting this video together and helping us regular folks to take a chance if you want to go this route. Thank you 🙏🏾
Dude all the information you need is right on this channel ...Jake.zweig@gmail.com for the army pdf
The reason you don’t hear about them is hav an incredibly high mission success rate and deploy all over the globe assisting Non-military assets aswell
I hope that clears it up, it’s an invitation-to-selection like CAG
@@ViktoriousDead Excellent explanation, thank you!
I wonder what other mos within regiment are like. While at JBLM the PT being conducted by 25 series or 92series seem ed quite manageable for any high speed soldier (from I observed from my own runs/ruck routes that sometimes overlapped)
Supporting the mission is of much greater value than the title to me, And I really wanna be part of that mission in support.
I was disappointed of PT and training standards when I enlisted which pushed me to officer route, but I realize maybe it’s not the mos or rank, maybe it was the units I’ve been assigned too in the past?
STEILACOOM!!!!!!!!
