Do all coaches have favorite players?

I have found favoritism without merit is usually reserved for the kids that remind the coach of the player they were when they were young. Was the coach just a hard worker with low talent? They will favor those “bring your lunchbox to work kids.” Was the coach a skillful fast talented player? They will favor the “Neymars” on their team.
