Hi fellow Imperial ! It's so rare to find Imperial vlogger. I guess you're one of the few. Keep up the great content mate !
hi :) I am a year 11 student and it has always been my dream to be able to study at Imperial College London... wish me luck guys...
update: going to Southampton to study computer science, thanks for all the support and best of luck in your upcoming exams
Jenny Kong same
Good luck in your exams
me too! What course are you thinking of doing at Imperial?
SGSnake2X ! Computer science! ☺️ what about you?
Jenny Kong wow me too! I wanna do 3 years of computing and then a masters degree for software engineering. I presume you’re nearly in year 13 like me since last year I was year 11 too, what A levels are you taking?
Not being funny but I went Imperial and in the first year Biology have a very low workload. The medics in 1st year seem to go out nearly every other day yet somehow pass not sure how.
Great vid!! 😄😄😄
Ohhh the little business penguin is soooooo cute!!
nice video, nice personality, you’ve gained a sub bro :)
Thanks Elly it means a lot!
why do u remind me so much of jack edwards
Haha, thanks 😂I've been thinking about making more study style videos like he used to but I'm worried the market is a bit saturated for it? This might have inspired me to do it though!
First year at Sussex was filled with weekly tutorials, 2 labs per week, and 3 lectures per module of which there were 4. Second term we had 8 lab reports for one module alone. I did not leave the library till 9pm most days
Is that like the tutorials at Oxford?
nice video, very informative.
Aaryan Bhatia I’m glad you liked it!
When you say Newcastle do you mean the one in the north east cause I live there
What games are played in the E-sports society?
Ive finished my MEng and am now doing my PhD. Its a tough uni a d it can be really frustrating, but the uni feels like a second home in a way. Even through all the hardships, it still feels like a home.
amin eibraham salehzadeh nobari I couldn’t agree more, over the last 3 years there have been real ups and downs but I’ll really miss it when I’m gone! Good luck with your PhD
Which engineering degree did you do? I’m thinking about chem eng at imperial 🤞🤞
@@jay-ts8ux I've got an offer for chem eng at imperial but I'm considering going to Birmingham instead

Is it difficult to get in for PhD study? I am told it is a matter of emailing the professors, but it seems that might be a lottery.
What’s availability of study space like? Heard it’s a problem at some London unis. Is it hard to get somewhere to study between lectures?
Hey Kirran, the library can be a bit full during exam season but there's study spaces in every department and I've never personally had a problem with finding somewhere to work!
I expected there to be a 'k' next to your subscriber count.
Cheers Rezwan! Just doing it for the love of it, but who knows maybe one day there will be!
@@sammckaylin congrats! Now there is
@Ali 2K I guess there is 😂 Currently still stumped as to what I should make next !
Hi, I have an offer from imperial at biological sciences. I’m just wondering if I have to take subjects other than biology at the uni. I’ve heard about Horizons, which consist of various subjects need to be taken other than those in the enrolled curriculum.
和魂英才 hey, in first year you only have to do biology but you have the option to take part in horizons, in second year (at the moment) horizons is compulsory but they had a review of this a few years ago and it may come up again soon. The options on offer for horizons are pretty varied, there’s loads of languages, other subjects like psychology and business on offer. I study science communication so there’s something for everyone and I’ve found it’s really helped me explore myself as a person and everything around me other than just straight biology ☺️
I’ve browsed through some of the subjects on offer, and they indeed look pretty interesting. Thanks!
Hi Sam
What are the names of the textbooks etc that we need for first year for Biological Sciences?
Thank you!
Grace
Hi Grace, arguably the most important textbook is "molecular biology of the cell" by Alberts. It's the only book I would regularly use for reference in my first year and it covers two of the courses you'll take - CBG and BCM. I also used it a lot in second year whenever I was looking at anything to do with cellular biology so you'll get a lot of use out of it! There's a number of copies in the library, they sell second hand ones in the biology department in the first few weeks or you can get it from amazon second hand for about £40 (which isn't too bad relative to other books!).
Other than that I didn't buy any text books in first year but there are a few books I can recommend if you haven't already read them (it'll give you an upper hand and provide loads of extra reading which can be used in exams!). I'd personally recommend the "ancestors' tale" by Dawkins and "why evolution is true" which will cover a lot of the content in the other two first year modules!
I hope that helps and best luck starting in September!

Hi first comment
Got my offer through for Biological Science at Imperial yesterday! It's been a year since you posted this.. any more comments to add about your time here? Where did you choose to stay in first year btw? Gotta be hard to find the balance between distance and cost.
Congratulations! I was put in WIlkinson which was both a blessing and a curse - It was great because I was super close but it was also really expensive. Honestly, no matter where you are what matters is you'll probably end up with some really decent people and that's what will determine the experience you have :)
WIth regards to my thoughts they've changed a little... Back in second year I was finding my footing and wasn't exactly sure about where I was going and what I wanted to do. Imperial was a place I went and liked but that's about it. I''ve thrown myself into a lot more this year and honestly it's been incredible. I have no free time whatsoever but I've found the stuff I really love and that's filled it up. My best advice is to join as many societies and clubs as you can when you arrive here and just try everything. Then just stick with the stuff you enjoy the most. One tip though, don't run a society in third year - big regrets.:')
@@sammckaylin Hahah thanks for your wise words of wisdom! Lol, what society are you running? Best of luck with this year - you got this
I didn't like my time at Imperial (I do Biochem) but we get a taste of Bio lecturers in the last year and the satisfaction for Bio (90%+) is not a lie. You have a good gender ratio unlike the other courses and several of my friends have enjoyed their time doing Bio. The head of Life Sci is a bio lecturer himself and you also have Dr Cook who is a really chill guy
@@lizzychan844 hi,could you talk more about your experience?I've got an offer for biochem and I'm unsure if imperial is a good place to go
Hi May I ask does Imperial biological science require interviews?
No it doesn't :)
Got an offer in Aeronautical Engineering. Anyone know anything about the workload/experience?
Luc Groshens Yep doing first year aero at imperial right now. Workload is definitely much higher than other unis for first years. There are quite a few deadlines very close to each other. However, if you keep up with the lectures and tutorial sheets (which I didn’t since I kinda focused on partying a bit too much) and keep the deadlines in mind, it’s is definitely manageable. Also a good tip would be to do your lab report as soon as you did the lab, it will save you the trouble and panic from trying to rush them right before the deadlines.
Luc Groshens Eyyyy I’m looking to apply to that program this fall too. I am a Canadian student and Canadian citizen however. Do you have any tips on how to strengthen my UCAS application, or any other information that might be common knowledge in the UK but not elsewhere?
Matt Hey Matt! So I ended up applying, but still haven’t received any interview or update. Someone made a thestudentroom forum for Imperial aero applicants and everyone in the thread says they haven’t received interviews either. It’s really taking a long time 😂😂
Matt Oh what??? I applied October 15
Matt I hope it didn’t end up in my spam folder or something...
Frick, an esports club??? But, where am I supposed to live in London?
Was it particularly hard to get in?
My grades were good and I'd done a lot of extra-curriculars around biology and science communication. I think if you work hard and put in the extra work to fill out your application then you can atleast get an offer and then work hard you can meet it. It really depends on courses though as some like computer science are amongst the most competitive in the world
do you know what would be expected from the aerospace and or any other of the engineering courses.
I just got a physics offer of 3 x A* something not too far off that
Work loads differ between departments but from my friends who did Aero I know that it's really great fun and the facilities are pretty great too!
What were ur predicted grades ?
I was predicted 2A*s and an A for my A levels :)
try EIE tho
How hard is it lol
Anime Society? Nah, I’m coming here.
Kartin Yau theres an anime soc at most unis dw ahhah
Am an anisoc member and our animesoc has been amazing this year and will be amazing next year as well. Kept me sane throughout final year for sure
Did anyone force for alcohol and drugs something like that???
harry balaji I never felt forced to do anything and if you ever find yourself surrounded by people that want you to go against your principles or step out of your comfort zone there’s enough people that you’ll find some who respect you for who you are ☺️
(I’m tee total and have never had a problem)
how hard is it to get in ?
Hi Lulwa, that totally depends on what you're applying for and what sort of grades you've got.
Imperial is really competitive whatever way you look at it, the natural sciences. - Biology, chemistry and physics - are far less competitive than Computer science though and require AAA or A*AA rather than A*A*A and advanced mathematics. I'd argue though in every instance it's worth shooting for the stars and not selling yourself short because it's a great place to be and a great place to learn too!
I'm an international student with perfect GPA but I don't plan on studying any science nor math related subjects, is it going to be easier for me to get in ?
Lulwa if imperial offers the course and you write a stellar personal statement regarding your motivation then you most Deffo have a shot, however that being said if your not going to go imperial for what they specialise in then is there really any point? If it’s social sciences you’re looking to go into then maybe you should consider LSE :)
@@lulwa6153 Imperial only offers STEM subjects at undergrad but there are Masters for business courses at postgrad
SJMcKay do you think someone could get in with A*A*B?
