Part 6 was really difficult for me so here’s a tip on how I’ve got it: when doing the right hand count 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and. When saying the numbers you play both hands, and when you say the “and’s” just play your right hand. It worked for me so I hope it works for someone else too! Edit: Glad to have helped some of y'all! :)))

I realized I was doing the fingers wrong and that it's entirely doable. Also within the next five minutes I mastered the first part left hand. Will continue later and go to sleep now. 3. Interestingly I had difficulty in playing the first part today with my thumb and pinky starting to hurt after a while. Looks like I'll need to take it slow and practice way lot more. 4. Part 3 will take me a lot of time to even do decently. But I know the key is to practice and not to give up. 5. Next day: I just did the first part of the first part of Part 3 and it came surprisingly easily to me today. I also skipped the 2nd part of the 1st part of Part 3 and did the whole thing together. That was easy. Nice. 6. Hi, I think you made a mistake during the second chord first part of Part 3 by giving F# instead of G in your left hand during the broken practice part. 7. Same day, I learned Part 3 in 30-45 minutes. It came surprisingly easily to me. I'll practice it till it become perfect and super fast. Then I will move on to part 4. 8. I got greedy and learned Part 4 as well. Even though it is supposed to be easy, I am having slight problem syncing the right hand to the left. The rythm from the previous part is messing with the rythm of this part a little. But I think I can finish it. Gonna practice Part 3 and Part 4 together before going to sleep. Tomorrow I will move on to part 5. 9. Look at that. This is Day 3 and I have already got the hang of the first 4 parts with minimum practice. You're an awesome teacher. But we shouldn't celebrate yet because the next two parts look scary hard. Good luck to me and everybody else. 10. Part 5 is breaking my fingers. I have a makeshift way of playing Part 5 for now but hopefully I can use my fingers as shown by you and not have to move my hands so much. Part 6 is easy in one hand but when combining both it's being difficult. But I now honestly believe I can finish this in one week 11. I can't do Part 6. I can't do it. I am losing sync mid way. I can see it but I can't do it. I will need to do really really slow practice. 12. Day 4. I can do the whole thing at high tempo except for Part 6. I can do part 6 slow and really non legato (Yeah fancy word I learned today) and even if sometimes I can just do Part6 I can't chain the different chords together. There is always a gap between the chords. But....it's coming to me slowly but surely. I still think I can do this within a week. 13. Also before Part 6 every problem I had or stated here has disappeared. Left hand is always on autopilot I don't even have to think about it and syncing is really easy for the most part (Except Part 6). This song suddenly turned easy. However I will say that this video didn't do that good of a job of creating practice piece for Part 6. I guess you could create a longer drill section or something. 14. I fooking did it...This is Day 4. It's scuffed. Nowhere near perfect but I played it. I played this thing and I smiled and I knew I did it. This is my first piece ever and i will treasure it forever. Thank you for teaching this. I will remember you forever and I will watch your other videos and learn new pieces. (After I've perfected this one...)

Part 6 was quite challenging for me, so here's a tip that helped me out a lot. Start working on each hand individually. Once you've mastered solo handedly, start combining the two. You may be asking yourself: "well its not that easy is it?", well yes and no. All you need to remember is that the left hand is twice as slow as the right hand, thats the key. Now try and start doing both together. One note on the left = Two notes on the right. The second you get that first 2to1 ratio, all you need to do is maintain the tempo. Once I understood the method behind it it clicked and boom. Hope i helped!

@@frankbot990 its like two notes on the right are one fast note you play the two 'be' than the one with the left hand. So you have be bb eb this reapeat itself one more time and then be ce (in the first) :)
For part 6 you should really make a step off this lesson and do some hand independancy training, I guess. Some good are on youtube. MAny good excercises, even. Just train your hands to be independant. Look for "piano hand independance lesson" or smth like that. Ya, offcourse, Part 6 is also a very great hand independancy training. But may be kinda difficult. Video author says right thing whole video long: "Take your time". Don't expect it to come easy. Just repeat till you get it. Don't blame yourself. Time is needed. You will get it eventually. And... at the 6 part point, your LH should be trained already to play without thinking, automatically. Then it will be like much easier. Also... as soon as you master like only first section out of 4 in each part, you are good to go already. First section of each PART takes most of the time to learn...
Hello Thomas, thank you for this wonderful video course. It has been very useful learning the song in tiny pieces. I have been practicing now for 3 weeks and I made it so far that I can play part 3 almost fluently. I hope that in maybe 2 months I will able to play the whole song! And by the way I'm 33 so there is no excuse if you really want to learn you can do it! You are a great teacher! Greetings from Holland.
Marvellous tutorial indeed, the step-by-step approach is wonderful for making pieces like this less intimidating. I was able to learn 'River Flows In You' from Werdemuskier's tutorial when I was 9 without any formal piano knowledge whatsoever. That ability to play a song greatly effloresced both my interest and ability in playing the piano. Since then, Thomas' tutorials have acted as a raft, amidst a sea of confusing and fast-paced tutorials, never failing to help me learn beautiful melodies (such as this one which I was able to learn in hardly a week). Thank you Werdemuskier, keep going.
I learned this in about a month from almost nothing. Still struggling quite a bit with the fast parts but I'm now at the point where I no longer need the tutorial, only practice in my fingers. Reckon another month and I'll be able to play it confidently at speed. Thank you so much!
I was dreaming about being able to play this beautiful piece when i was going to high school, but I did not have piano or keyboard that i could practice with, and 7 years later i finally got a midi keyboard, and i immediately searched tutorials for this piece. After 1 month now i can play this song, and i am just enjoying it. You made someone else dream true, Mr. Thomas. I just wanna say thank you!
I really appreciate you doing this! I've learnt how to play my first piano song thanks to you!!!! You did an excellent job at explaining and demonstrating everything! Your setup is perfect for beginners like me to learn!!!
I'm going to take piano lessons in September, I don't even gave a piano yet but I'm way too excited😄 You explained it very good, thank you. What would be a bit easier it to use 2 colors. Example : green for the right hand and red for the left hand. Thank you for this lesson and good luck with the next lessons. Have a good day❤
Casey Mouwen This song is a bit advanced for a beginner who has never played piano specially with left hand fingering. You should try easier pieces to develop finger strength. I have been practicing for last 8 months and I find this quite challenging. It can hurt fingers if proper technique is not used. Also, see other videos for better left hand fingering.
Sen zon You need to stop practicing as soon as you feel pain and continue when pain is gone. It may be due to bad technique. Google piano wrist and arm motion. Try to play with your wrist and arms not just fingers. Record and watch yourself playing. Good luck.
I’ve started playing piano today and I want to thank God that I’ve found this video tutorial. You are smart and talented! Thank you for sharing your skills with us❤
nice, best tutorial ever i like how u got my left hand to get used to the chords before actually telling us how to use them, am still at 10 mins at the video but already left hand PRO. PLEASE DO more of these videos hope these tuts stay free :) THANKS ALOT
Thank you, Thomas. I played the piano for two months today. I can play river flows in you, fur Elise, and comptine d'un autre ete. You help me chase my dream and change my life.
In the beginning I though I would hardly make it to the end, my hands were so tired and the fingers were moving so fast and combining everything was stress to my brain. But I took it slow one day at a time, and I can happily say I’ve learned this song!!! It’s so beautiful, if your learning this don’t give up!
For people that have large hands but feel the that the thumb is not needed at all trust me it changes the dynamic a little bit and i did the same thing and now its like muscle memory and i dont wanna change it but i wish i used my thumb, i feel it kinda give a more consistent tone to the piece.
I have really small hands but my brother is exact opposite but, he doesn’t come nearly as close to a octave whilst i can reach it with ease, it’s not about the length of your hands but the anount you can stretch it
This piece is just perfect for me. It's beautiful and challenging but doesn't feel impossible. If someone has recommendations for other pieces like this I'd love to hear them. Maybe something a bit more happy as balance.
thank you so much for the tutorial . I'm just a self learner, never went to piano classes . but you are such a good teacher . I managed to play all the parts within 3 days . never thought I would be able to . thank you again you are the best .
I'm commenting like 7 years after this was posted so I don't know if Thomas will see this but, thank you Thomas! This is the best tutorial ever, I played each part like 100 times (my hands hurt soo bad lol) I see this song by Fred Tedesco (see him on his YT channel,) and he never said the name, I made it a challenge to find this song, I didn't know the name, better yet the name being some hard French word lol. It was so beautiful, I gave up trying to learn River Flows In You, and S.O.S. But this song i couldn't just give up on, TYSM, Thomas I am truly grateful for this, you said everything so slowly and perfectly, the vid is only 37 mins long but all my pausing and rewinding made it last like 5 hours, lol. Thanks again Thomas keep it up!!!
I read this comment 2 hours after it was posted :) Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad to hear that you found the tutorial helpful and that you enjoyed learning the song. It means a lot to me that you persevered through the challenge and didn't give up!! Your dedication and effort are truly great. Keep up the great work, and don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need further assistance. Thanks again for your support, and happy playing!
I started to learn this song on December 2018, now it's February 2019 and I'm so proud to tell you that I play it perfectly because of you. Thank you so much! Btw it's the first song I learned on the piano
When you where connecting both hands for part 6, you said: "The wonderful thing is that we pay each note together, together, together". Then the next thing you say is that you play 2 notes on your right hand, and one note on the left hand! (right, together, right, together, etc) Can you explain?
Yes it's supposed to be G and not F#. Right after he does it with F#, he continues with G which is the correct note since he's still on the second part of the 4-part pattern with his left hand (Part 1: E, G, B, E / Part 2: D, G, B, D / Part 3: D, F#, B, D / Part 4: D, F#, A, D)
Hi! At 15:27 you play a part, with the second cord with the left hand, but when you go into playing it slow you skip that part and go with the 3rd cord, (playing the black key with the left hand). I got a bit confused when following this :)
the f# in the right hand clashes with the g in the left hand so when you play it slow it sounds wrong but when you play it at the normal speed it sounds fine, when he plays it at the normal speed before and after slowing down he plays a g in the left hand but when he slowed it down he played and f#, i think he may have just gotten mixed up, the sheet music i have for this song has it written as a g like it should but ive also seen videos where people played f# in both hands

Thank you so much for the tutorial. You've inspired me to learn to play this piece. I have the music which is a great start, but boy is it tough on my wrist. And it's tricky co-ordination for my fingers. But I adore this piece and I am determined to learn it. Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata is a lot easier in comparison. But it's time I learnt faster pieces and got my lazy fingers working. Thank you again. You're so brilliant to help those of us who are struggling to play the best instrument in the whole world xx

@Bisky krueger continue, obviously you might not do It in one day but with many practice you can finish it, you can do it man!!
Wow lucky you im 10 and im still trying to learn this piece and i think it might take me a while since i have pretty small hands.
Startet self-learning piano myself around 3 weeks ago, and because of this amazing tutorial i now know how to play this great song. Thank you so much
Wow, I'm very impressed how easy it was to learn the whole piece. Amazing teacher! Thanks a lot for sharing this tutorial.
You are such a good teacher!!! Learned this song in 2 days(and have been playing the piano for about 2 months now)
When i first heard the piece i was in love but i was still a beginner. I thought i couldnt do it now; maybe after some time but not now. But watching your tutorial legit gave me hope.
You are seriously the best teacher!
Deboparna Banerjee hope you learned by now
I learned it through this video in a month and had the chance to play it at the airport of Montreal and got plenty of applause from it.
Thank you very much
I’m self taught and I learned this piece in less than a week. It’s not as difficult as it seems. Good luck everyone.
@Ben but ok
It dépend your level and how long you are playing .
How long you are playing piano ?

Part 6:
LH: E B G B E B G B
RH: BE BB EB BE BB EB BE CE
Remember this pattern is easier for me to play it.
thanks, this helped me a lot
Kage Chen can you help me with that?
I really don't understand your comment, is it a written format of what this tutorial shows or is this a different alternative that you're sharing?
Itd help a lot
Thank you
@@frankbot990 its like two notes on the right are one fast note you play the two 'be' than the one with the left hand.
Marlonski Hey leuk iemand Die Nederlands spreekt.
It took me 4 hours for part 3 😂
Donia Mesa Same 😂😂
Starting too now. 38 and from The Netherlands too. Wish me luck 😎🎹
Marlonski your 35 now happy birthday
OMG, thank you!! I’m so happy to hear that!! 🥰
Pirouz Farhani
I can play it till 17:13 as a "bloody beginner" and my fingers hurts like hell, I feel like they are broken
Sen zon You need to stop practicing as soon as you feel pain and continue when pain is gone. It may be due to bad technique. Google piano wrist and arm motion. Try to play with your wrist and arms not just fingers. Record and watch yourself playing. Good luck.
En hoe ver zit je met de piano? ;)
Pirouz Farhani surprisingly I've learnt piano for 2 weeks on this song, and I've got the hang of it! So it depends if you learn fast
For anyone confused, there is a mistake in part 3 (16:08) where he plays Fis but it should be G
Thanks man🙏
I also was wondering any Im glad I was actually right this time
First tutorial by good tutor. Real teaching (with chord training) instead of showing how pianist plays (like other tutorials). Thank you Sir!
i've been practicing piano for almost a year and i'd like to say no videos helped me as much as yours did. Thank you
finally, after 8 years of studying piano i could play this song! thanks to this tutorial and the quarantine
Getting there slowly but steady.. Left hand is almost automatic. Just love this as a new player it's simple yet challenging at the same time!
wow, thank you, you just helped me too much, i was almost giving up. after watch this tutorial I think I'll get it
Glad to here that, Francys :) You'll make it!!!
Francys Ferreira DONT give up! :)
Yeah bro, u can do I t
I’ve started playing piano today and I want to thank God that I’ve found this video tutorial. You are smart and talented! Thank you for sharing your skills with us❤
it took 2 months (I can’t play piano) but now i can do this perfectly. I‘m kinda proud of myself
YAY! Im proud of u 👏👏:-) I wanna start learning it today lol
nice, best tutorial ever i like how u got my left hand to get used to the chords before actually telling us how to use them, am still at 10 mins at the video but already left hand PRO.
PLEASE DO more of these videos
hope these tuts stay free :)
THANKS ALOT
Holy shit when you play the whole left hand there’s a huge satisfaction damn I felt that deeply. You get a sub and a like!
Yeaaahh same
dude u are the best, i thought i never can play both hands in same time but i did it cause of this awesome tutorial :D GOD BLESS U MEEN
Thank you, Thomas. I played the piano for two months today. I can play river flows in you, fur Elise, and comptine d'un autre ete. You help me chase my dream and change my life.
this is the best tutorial of all time ngl
Thank you very much after 1 month I can do it completly , it s my first piano song and i did not play piano before that
I literally fear that I'm incapable of playing this because it's so beautiful and I love so much.
So did you play it or not ? I hate when people white these kind of comments and then disappear for year.

The best piano teacher:)spasibo:)
Не знаю насколько хорошо ты играешь, но это произведение не тяжело играть ;)
"Yeaaaaah one more time" Love the way he teaches :)
In the beginning I though I would hardly make it to the end, my hands were so tired and the fingers were moving so fast and combining everything was stress to my brain. But I took it slow one day at a time, and I can happily say I’ve learned this song!!! It’s so beautiful, if your learning this don’t give up!
Im just a beginner. I used to play when i was small. Muscle memory was still here I learned this in only 7 hours!!!!!
Karanjot Singh I learned this song in 7 minutes. Flawless.
YEP Pepega wdym the vid is 39 mins
EVERYONE WHOSE HAND IS TOO SMALL!!! Don't play the most right note with your left hand. It sounds almost same
For people that have large hands but feel the that the thumb is not needed at all trust me it changes the dynamic a little bit and i did the same thing and now its like muscle memory and i dont wanna change it but i wish i used my thumb, i feel it kinda give a more consistent tone to the piece.
Thanks, I was looking for this comment, my hands are tiny and I cannot bridge a full octaf
İf you be lazy and dont do that here, then where will you do? You will do full octave now or later, but you have to, then learn it as soon as you can.
My hands are tiny. You have to learn how to spread your reach.. If you can’t do a full octave you’ll never be able to play piano.
I have really small hands but my brother is exact opposite but, he doesn’t come nearly as close to a octave whilst i can reach it with ease, it’s not about the length of your hands but the anount you can stretch it
I can play this piece perfectly now and I started 2 months ago, thank you so much for this tutorial!
got the whole song, now just gotta practice, will update!
I have been playing piano for 8 years and have just heard this song for the first time today. What a beautiful song
This song from french movie "la vie d amelie poulain" ( the life of amelie Poulain) a beautiful story.
im legit freking out! I can play the whole song! TYSM!!!
THANK YOU so much, that was my first music on piano. I don't even know what is a C note and after 1 month training i've done it! Thanks a lot ;)
That's so nice the video is very very good,Thank you so much❤❤❤❤
Thank you for this lesson, it's perfect!
I'm on the last part now...it's tough but I know I can get it with enough practice.
Finished the song!! (No longer tracking my progress)
I can now play my first song on the piano like you after 4 days of practice, I’m so happy! Thank you.
Merci beaucoup. Votre enseignement est excellent, même pour moi qui parle peu anglais. Excellente pédagogie et très dynamique. Havé à Nice Dany!
I mean a nice day
I'm commenting like 7 years after this was posted so I don't know if Thomas will see this but, thank you Thomas!
Shit that’s a huge chord my hand hurts from stretching my fingers so wideeee ahhgg!
I started to learn this song on December 2018, now it's February 2019 and I'm so proud to tell you that I play it perfectly because of you. Thank you so much! Btw it's the first song I learned on the piano
Etien Zaragoza I just got a piano and this is the first thing I learn, I’m at the beginning of part three and this is so hard. lol
When you where connecting both hands for part 6, you said: "The wonderful thing is that we pay each note together, together, together". Then the next thing you say is that you play 2 notes on your right hand, and one note on the left hand! (right, together, right, together, etc) Can you explain?
Tim Karpov yeah.. i don't know how i should play it..
The right way is together, right, together, right. I search this part in another videos with slow motion!
I think he just made mistake. Its 40 min video. But you can think for yourself it's really not that hard.
@@johnnytable9217 it's hard for me I'll tell you that
Thank you for also noticing
This is the best piano teaching!!!!
I’ve been learning this since 2018! It’s the best tutorial i’ve ever seen but part 6 is devastating😭😭
At 16:08 there is a mistake, no? should be G instead of F-Sharp on the left hand?
Yes I agree. Trouble is the F# sounds better.
yes he forget the part lmao how am i supposed to learn now
Ya.. But later on he played it with G.. I was confused too😁
Yes it's supposed to be G and not F#. Right after he does it with F#, he continues with G which is the correct note since he's still on the second part of the 4-part pattern with his left hand (Part 1: E, G, B, E / Part 2: D, G, B, D / Part 3: D, F#, B, D / Part 4: D, F#, A, D)
Absolutely, but still it sounds better with fsharp 🤣
My pink is too short. 😭
Mine too. I'm turning this into a duet with my kids and me :)

@@teresanash7670 I'm too :D thats a great idea. But they hasn't so often time, like so often that I want play :/
@@teresanash7670 AWWW
Hi! At 15:27 you play a part, with the second cord with the left hand, but when you go into playing it slow you skip that part and go with the 3rd cord, (playing the black key with the left hand). I got a bit confused when following this :)
16:07 right?
Stridarn I was confused in that part too!
Augusto Guerrante me too
Anyone got the answer to this?
the f# in the right hand clashes with the g in the left hand so when you play it slow it sounds wrong but when you play it at the normal speed it sounds fine, when he plays it at the normal speed before and after slowing down he plays a g in the left hand but when he slowed it down he played and f#, i think he may have just gotten mixed up, the sheet music i have for this song has it written as a g like it should but ive also seen videos where people played f# in both hands
You are hands down the best teacher I’ve come across. I learned this song because of your tutorial. Took me about 6 months bc i am not a piano player- but i now play comptine d’un autre été quite well and have marked an item off my bucket list
After 3 weeks of practice, I finally did it 🎉
Wow, that’s amazing. Congratulations 🎊🎉
Thank you so much!!!
it has been 2 weeks now!!
and I'm as good as you at this song!
;)
Thank you so much Thomas, finally I can learn to play my favorite song
Thank you so much for the tutorial. You've inspired me to learn to play this piece. I have the music which is a great start, but boy is it tough on my wrist. And it's tricky co-ordination for my fingers. But I adore this piece and I am determined to learn it. Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata is a lot easier in comparison. But it's time I learnt faster pieces and got my lazy fingers working. Thank you again. You're so brilliant to help those of us who are struggling to play the best instrument in the whole world xx
Danke, danke, danke, ich glaub ich kann's! Mega cool
You are AMAZING
